The environment-friendly building material, photocatalyst/scoria/loess concrete, was prepared using scoria and loess (which have merits as building materials) and photocatalyst (which has the functions to compose the environmental contaminants and of self cleaning). In order to apply this material as a building material, the compressive and flexible strengths, and water absorptivity (which have been set by Korea Industrial Standard) were measured. The optimum mixing ratio of photocatalyst/scoria/loess concrete was obtained at the condition of $393kg/m^3$ of coarse aggregate, $802kg/m^3$ of fine aggregate in case of scoria, $80kg/m^3$ of loess, $12kg/m^3$ of photocatalyst, $400kg/m^3$ of cement, and $2kg/m^3$ of AE water reducing agent. The photocatalyst/scoria/loess concrete prepared by above mixing ratio of raw materials showed 25 MPa of compressive strength, $3.8{\sim}4.6$ MPa of flexible strength and $11.4{\sim}12.0%$ of water absorptivity, indicating that the quality of this material was suitable for Korea Industrial Standard (more than 21 MPa for compressive strength, more than 2.0 MPa for flexible strength in case of lightweight aggregate, and less than 15 % for water absorptivity in case of clay brick) for using as a building material.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the manufacture of light weight concrete panel using the artificial light-weight aggregate as a part of the substitution of foamed styrene and polyurethane because of narrow allocable temperature Bone in use. The experimental parameter of this study is 40, 60 and 8$0^{\circ}C$ of curing temperature at 100% relative humidity and the type of admixture such as cement, 6mm glass fiber and St/BA emulsion. Testing item is compressive and flexural strength and strength of specimen cured at standard condition is compared to that of specimen cured at 40, 60 and 8$0^{\circ}C$ of curing temperature at 100% relative humidity. As a result or this, it was revealed that the maximum or strength is developed in 6$0^{\circ}C$ or cure temperature at 100% relative humidity in case of the most of the specimen. Specimens modified by St/BA emulsion show the highest development of strength dependent on the curing tmeperature. So, it seems to be effective that evaporation curing method shoud be considered to curing the specimen as the panel core.

The purpose of this study is investigating characteristics of the concrete containing Fly-ash according to different 4 mix design, that is, the first mix design is partial replace Fly-ash of cement, second is partial replace Fly-ash of cement and fine aggregate, third is partial replace Fly-ash of fine aggregate, fourth partial replacement of fine and coarse aggregate. For this purpose, selected test variables were water-binder ratio with two levels of 45%, 50%, and Fly-ash contents with four levels 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, As the result of this study are as follow. 1) The result of mix design of a partial replacement of cement, the slump-flow value was appeared a promotive effect of viscosity. But in case of the over with Fly-ash 10% and the other mix design was not changed slump value. 2) The unit weight of the mixing rate with Fly-ash 0% was $1.875{\sim}1.884t/m^3$, the other mix design 10% over with Fly-ash was $1.846{\sim}1.615t/m^3$, the difference was appeared less about 15% than that. 3) In design, partial replace Fly-ash of fine aggregate, this compressive strength was appeared that the concrete age after 7 days was higher than in partial replacement of cement, therefore, the default of a concrete with Fly-ash, that is the earlier compressive strength was to lessen, was improved. 4) The thermal conductivity of the all mix design was $0.447{\sim}1.144kcal/mh^{\circ}C$, this value was as good as a lightweight aggregate concrete.
In this study, sintering properties of Artificial Lightweight aggregates(ALAs) prepared from coal ash as a function of sintering temperature (900$^{\circ}$C, 1000$^{\circ}$C, 1100$^{\circ}$C) and time (2min, 5min, 10min) when limestone added as lightweight mineral was investigated. Increasing the sintering temperature resulted simultaneously from a decline of quartz mineral as well as growth of mullite mineral. Addition of limestone to ALAs newly formed sintered minerals such as clinoptilolite and plagioclase. Sintering effect of ALAs prepared from coal ash and limestone was more affected by a sintering temperature than time. As sintering temperature and time increae, transition of macropore to micropore and formation of closed pores were happened, consequently shrank the total pore volume of ALAs. The surface of ALAs sintered at 1000$^{\circ}$C for 5min was nearly not detected open pores due toe amalgamation effect of molten slag layer but homogeneous distributions of closed pores with micro-scale were examined in cross sectional area ALAs. Sintering temperature and time which present the most adequate state, in the preparation of ALAs, are corresponded to 1000$^{\circ}$C and 5min, respectively.

It is known that some components of wood obstruct the hydration of cement when wood is mixed with cement. In order to examine the effect of pretreatment of wood chips in hot water, this study conducted the experiments for the setting and compressive strength of mortar by sieving pine wood chips with a 2.4mm sieve, dipping them in waters of different temperatures, and then using them as a part of the fine aggregate. For the experiments, water-cement ratio of the mortar was 0.50 and the amount of the fine aggregate substituted by wood chips was set at 0%, 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, and 10% of the mass of the fine aggregate. As a result of the test, it was found out that when wood chips were used to substitute fine aggregate for the production of mortar, more usage of wood chips postponed setting more, and the treatment of wood chips with water improved the problem of the delay in setting time. Especially, the final setting time of the mortar which used 2~6% of wood chips treated in $100^{\circ}C$ water for 30 minutes was almost the same as the final setting time of the mortar which used no wood chips. Also, the compressive strength of the mortar which used the wood chips treated with water was compared to that of the mortar which used the wood chips not treated with water. The result showed that the strength improved for age of 7 days and 28 days, while there was little change in strength for age of 3 days.

In winter, the excessive use of deicing salt deteriorates concrete pavement durability. To reduce the amount of deicing salt used, phase-change materials (PCMs) potentially offer an alternative way to melt snow through their latent heat storage characteristics. In this research, thermal energy storage concrete was developed by using PCM-impregnated expanded clay as 50 % replacement to normal aggregate by volume. In addition, to improve the thermal efficiency of PCM lightweight aggregate (PCM-LWA)-incorporated concrete, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were incorporated in proportions of 0.10 %, 0.15 %, and 0.20 % by binder weight. Compressive strength testing and programmed thermal cycling were performed to evaluate the mechanical and thermal responses of the PCM-LWA concrete. Results showed a significant strength reduction of 54 % due to the PCM-LWA; however, the thermal performance of the PCM-LWA concrete was greatly improved with the addition of MWCNTs. Thermal test results showed that 0.10 % MWCNT-incorporated concrete had high thermal fatigue resistance as well as uniform heat flow, whereas specimens with 0.15 % and 0.20 % MWCNT content had a reduced thermal response due to supercooling when the ambient temperature was varied between -5℃ and 10℃.

As spreading of train concrete ballast leads to the increase resounding friction noise, an porous sound absorbing block is applied in urban train tunnel as a counterparts against the friction noise. Three steps of major variables tests for an optimal mix design of the block are conducted to pursue the light weight of the block. Pilot property tests of the block for the cases of the fly-ash only as lightweight aggregates are carried satisfying KRT(Korean Rail Transit) and new KRS(Korean Railway Standards). Based on the results of pilot tests, required structural strength and admixture effects are evaluated. Additionally, typical lightweight aggregates are replaced so that lightweight and strength are improved for serviceability of poor working conditions and proper maintenance in urban train tunnel.

The objective of this study is to examine the reproducibility for compressive strength development and mechanical properties of lightweight concrete made using bottom ash aggregates and foam(LWC-BF). Based on the mix proportions conducted by Ji et al., six identical mixes were prepared with different actual foam volume ratios from 0% to 25% and water-to-binder ratios from 25% to 30%. The presently measured properties, including initial slump, slurry density, compressive strength gains at different ages, splitting tensile strength, and modulus of rupture, were very close to those determined in the previous tests by Ji et al. Thus, the developed LWC-BF has a good potential in obtaining a reproducibility for compressive strength development and mechanical properties even though the troubles of mixing control owing to the addition of preformed foam.

The objective of this study is to propose a reliable stress-strain model in compression for lightweight concrete using bottom ash aggregates and air foam(LWC-BF). The slopes of the ascending and descending branches in the fundamental equation form generalized by Yang et al. were determined from the regression analyses of different data sets(including the modulus of elasticity and strains at the peak stress and 50% peak stress at the post-peak performance) obtained from 9 LWC-BF mixtures. The proposed model exhibits a good agreement with test results, revealing that the initial slope decreases whereas the decreasing rate in the stress at the descending branch increases with the increase in foam content. The mean and standard deviation of the normalized root-square mean errors calculated from the comparisons of experimental and predicted stress-strain curves are 0.19 and 0.08, respectively, for the proposed model, which indicates significant lower values when compared with those(1.23 and 0.47, respectively) calculated using fib 2010 model.

The use of high-strength concrete in construction have been increasing steadily. However, high-strength concrete has a low water-binder ratio, and the problems such as cracks due to hydration heat and shrinkage during the hydration process at the early age. Recently, as a method to reduce the shrinkage of concrete, study of internal curing has carried out according to increasing about interest about it. In this study, the effect of compressive strength on the curing condition(drying, moist, water) was investigated by using artificial lightweight aggregate(LWA) in high strength and high volume mortar. As a result of autogenous shrinkage, the effect of shrinkage reduction was enhanced depending on the increasing of LWA replacement. According to the curing condition, the results of compressive strength showed the different trend. The compressive strength has increased on the drying and moisture condition and decreased on the water condition.
