The conventional SiC-type of lightning arresters in distribution systems has been replaced by ZnO-type because the ZnO-type has characteristics such as outstanding non linearity, high energy absorption capability, surge suppressing performance, and excellent response to abrupt wave. Out of the various types of lightning arrester failures, some which have been often reported could be prevented in advance. Therefore, the preventive countermeasures which can cope with the failures are strongly required. This paper summed up and analyzed the lightning arrester failures which occurred, from 1983 to 1992, in distribution systems in order to provide fundamental data, classified by year, to make countermeasures.

Light weight of vehicles by composite materials makes possible high speed, energy saving, and low repair cost. As Bimodal Tram and Tilting Train eXpress(TTX) use carbon composite material for their bodies, safety for passengers and electrical devices against unexpected failures has been issued more than ever. Lightning strike which generates high voltages and large currents is the worst case for the safety of passengers and devices. With this background, we experimentally investigated the insulation breakdown phenomena on carbon composite materials by the application of lightning surge voltage and current. From the experimental results, we could estimate whether the composite body is safe or not for the inside passengers and devices against lightning strikes.

This study evaluated the impedance characteristics of earth termination system and developed a variable frequency-typed inverter (measuring tool) for the utilization in ground design for lightning protection. The variable-frequency-typed inverter were composed of rectification part, voltage adjuster, IGBT controller and measuring part. Meanwhile, the square wave signal of variable frequency converted its frequency up to lightning surge band by using an IGBT after rectifying an alternating current (AC). It conducted performance evaluation of ground impedance of actual earth termination system by using the developed measuring tool for ground impedance and confirmed that such impedance-oriented performance evaluation was effective in the design of lightning protection.

This paper analyses the lightning overvoltage with earth of grounding wire and installation types of arresters in double circuits distribution systems. First, the model for analysis is selected severer case between upper line and lower line when the direct lightning surge strikes on the overhead grounding wire. The lightning overvoltage is variously calculated with earth distance between overhead grounding wires. This paper also analyses the effect of the installation distance between arrestors and the earth resistance of overhead grounding wire. From these results, authors examine the rationality of BIL that is applied in distribution system.

This paper presents a new accelerating aging test facility for distribution lightning arresters. Aging parameters of lightning arrester are moisture ingress, electrical stress and surge absorption and so on. In this system, we applied 13.2kV to 6 samples and controled temperature and humidity of chamber and measured leakage currents of the all samples. Also we developed accelerating aging cycle which consists of -35$^{\circ}C$∼90$^{\circ}C$ temperature and 40%∼90% humidity. Through the aging test we found out the leakage current of aged sample increases rapidly according to the temperature rising. Hereafter we can determine the replacement guide of leakage current for field operating arresters and condition assessment of aged samples through this aging test.

본 논문에서는 간접낙뢰로 인한 항공기 탑재 컴퓨터의 손상을 보호하기 위한 간접낙뢰 보호장치의 설계 내용 및 시험 과정을 소개한다. 낙뢰로부터 유도된 서지 전압은 항공기 전기 전자장비의 기능 장애나 손상을 가져오는데 이것을 낙뢰의 간접영향이라 한다. 이러한 항공기의 낙뢰 간접영향으로부터 항공전자 장비를 보호하기 위해서는 항공기에 가해진 낙뢰로 인한 영향성을 분석하고 이에 따른 보호 설계를 각각의 장비에 적용한다. 본 논문에서는 보호대상 장비의 간접낙뢰로 인한 손상을 방지하기 위하여 수행한 RTCA DO-160G Section22의 카테고리 분석과 선정을 통한 간접낙뢰 수준 결정, 선정된 레벨에 따른 보호회로 설계 방법을 소개한다. 또한 설계된 보호회로의 유효성 확인을 위해 수행한 낙뢰 간접영향 검증시험 결과를 보인다.

가공선로와 지중선로가 혼합된 배전계통에서 뇌서어지와 개폐서어지가 입상주를 통하여 유입될 수 있다. 이러한 서어지는 케이블을 따라서 이동하게 되고 케이블의 종단에서 반사된다. 이때 반사되는 서어지는 그 크기가 2배 정도가 되고 지중배전선로의 절연을 위협할 수 있다. 한전의 지중배전계통을 모의할 수 있는 모델계통을 만들고 이 계통에 서어지를 인가하여 케이블의 서어지 전파 특성을 측정하였다. 실제시험으로 측정한 결과를 EMTP 해석 결과와 비교하여 EMTP 파라미터들을 수정하였다. EMTP 해석에서 케이블 절연체의 유전율, 피뢰기의 특성곡선, 서어지의 파형을 조정하면 실증시험 결과와 거의 일치하는 결과를 얻을 수 있었으며, 케이블의 말단에서 2배 정도 전압상승이 되고 분기에 의하여 복잡하게 전파되는 것을 확인하였다.

일반 전화뿐 아니라 xDSL 초고속서비스를 제공하는 가입자 통신선로는 옥외에 노출되어 있어 매년 우기철 낙뢰 피해가 발생하고, 통신선로에 접속된 단말장치는 낙뢰서지에 의한 부품 소손 및 서비스가 일시 중단되기도 한다. 낙뢰로 인해 가입자 통신선로에서 나타나는 낙뢰유도서지 특성을 파악하는 것은 통신시설 보호 및 서비스 중단을 최소화 할 수 있는 중요한 기초 자료가 된다. 본 논문은 가입자 통신시설에 나타나는 낙뢰유도전압을 측정하여 각종 파라메터 분석 및 가입자선로에 구성에 따른 파라메터 특성 변화를 분석하였다.

This paper presents evaluation of the electrical uniformity of zinc oxide varistors for lightning arresters. Two types of varistors were prepared which are a domestic varistor destroyed in the long duration current impulse withstand test and a new imported varistor. The domestic varistor exhibited good electrical uniformity except destroyed parts, but the imported varistor showed the worse results.

최근 고품질의 정보통신서비스와 안정한 전력공급에 대한 사회적 요구가 증가하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 뇌서지로부터 정보통신설비를 효과적으로 보호하는 대책을 제안하기 위해서 실규모 실험회로를 적용하여 여러 가지 설치조건에 따른 서지보호기의 보호효과를 실험적으로 조사하였다. 그 결과 전원계통의 접지방식, 분기회로의 수, 접지선의 배선방법 등에 따라 서지보호기의 보호효과는 크게 다른 것으로 밝혀졌다. 정보화 기기용 서지보호기를 설치하는 경우, 전원선과 통신선을 포함하는 공통접지방식과 접지선을 전원선과 일괄하여 금속관 내에 배선하는 것이 서지보호기의 서지차단성능의 향상에 가장 효과적이었다.
