In this study, we propose a dimming control method for a visible light communication (VLC) system, in which the subcarrier on-off keying (OOK) modulation of Manchester code is used for data transmission. In the VLC transmitter, non-return-to-zero (NRZ) code data is transformed to Manchester code, which is OOK modulated with a subcarrier. Manchester code is used for flicker-free lighting; the duty factor is changed for dimming control, and the subcarrier is used for preventing the adjacent noise light interference. In the experiments, the dimming control was carried out from about 8%-92% of the continuous wave (CW) LED light. This configuration is simple and effective in constructing a VLC system for indoor wireless sensor networks with flicker-free illumination and dimming control capability without adjacent noise light interference.
This paper presents a wired and wireless linked remote control system. Ethernet based network communication is used for long distance management and 2.4GHz RF network is adopted for the local area communication between the main network and the ballast. For the effective remote control and management including dimming using wired and wireless linked digital communication networks, control circuit of the ballast is implemented with fully digital circuit using MCU and EPLD. In this paper, the proper frame structure is proposed for the digital-remote lighting-control system and the detailed system configurations including fully digital controlled ballast for the induction lamp are described.

In these days, most of the office buildings are being required to save energy for maintenance. lighting system constitutes 20% to 30% of the total annual electrical energy consumption in office buildings. As an energy saving strategy for lighting system, dimming control system based on illuminance sensors came into use. But the system is accompanied with many illuminance sensors to control lighting and needs a lot of initial investment. In this study, the prediction equation for indoor daylighting illuminance distribution is proposed through the review for conventional research results and field measurements. The proposed equation was verified by the comparison between predicted results and field measurement results. The developed prediction equation for daylighting can be used to control the indoor illuminance level with the limited sensor when dimming control system is operated.

Light emitting diode(LED) lighting has been applied various industry fields because of its high efficiency, low power consumption, long life time, and environment friendly characteristics. Generally, LED lighting needs a driver to maintain constant current. Most popular driver is the switching converter. In the converter, there are several electrolytic capacitors. However the lifespan of the electrolytic capacitor is much shorter than LED. Therefore the lifespan of LED lighting with electrolytic capacitor is decreased. Also, LED lighting needs dimming control because of various needs and energy saving. This paper presents the dimmable single-stage PFC DCM flyback converter without electrolytic capacitor and parallel LC resonant filter for reducing 120[Hz] ripple on the output. The type 2 controller is used to maintain constant current and the analog dimming control is used. The proposed converter is verified through simulation and experimental works.

This paper proposes a dimming method and a hybrid LED driving circuit suitable for the ultra high definition (UHD) broadcasting. There are major two problems during the dimming control for traditional LED broadcast lightings; one is a flicker that occurred when camera filming to these lightings, and the other is that linear control is impossible for LED luminous intensity under 10% due to LED electrical characteristics. The proposed dimming method and the driving circuit are designed to solve two problems simultaneously. For high level dimming control region from 10 to 100%, the analog control method was applied to the switching regulator constructed by MOSFET operated in the saturation region. For low level dimming control region under 10%, the fast PWM control method with the linear regulator constructed by MOSFET in the ohmic region was used. We verified experimentally that the dimming method is able to control the luminous intensity linearly from 1 to 100% and the flicker disappears on images taken by the charge coupled device (CCD) and the complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) cameras. Therefore, the proposed method is suitable for the UHD broadcasting.
In the normal office building, the energy consumption to maintain the reasonable intensity of illumination for the work by using the artificial illumination occupies 30% or greater of the whole building electric energy consumption. If the dependability of the artificial illumination is dropt by positively using the natural lighting from the outside, the large amount of electrical energy can be saved, in addition the more nice visual environment for work can be created. Daylight is lighting source that most closely match visual response of the human, because sunlight and skylight achieve the harmony. For this reason, the daylight of small amount than amount of the artificial lighting source also can give the same effect in work activities of human. In addition, if there is daylight at the window of the building, the energy can be saved by controlling the artificial lighting. In this paper, in the building using the photovoltaic power generation analyze the correlation between the amount of energy generated by photovoltaic and indoor illumination and this was proved through the simulation with Relux 2010. In addition, the amount of daylight inflow in the room and distribution was drawn by the equation and the ratio for the sectional dimming control of each lighting equipment was predicted and the energy saving amount according to this was calculated. As a result, the indoor illumination was satisfied with recommended illumination value of the office and consumption power could be reduced approximately with 20~70%.
In this paper, We proposed remote dimming control system for Light Emitting Diode(LED) street light using Power Line Communication(PLC). LED will be used widly by indoor or outdoor lighting because of semi-permanent life and environment restriction. For energy saving of street light, the dimming control system is very necessary and the PLC is a very efficient technique. Thus, in this paper we proposed the remote dimming control system for LED street light using PLC. A performance of the proposed system was validated by experimental results.
In this paper, the performance of Hybrid Dimming control system for Daylighting system is evaluated by accredited tests. The system controls the balance of illuminance of daylight between daylight system and LED light system. It makes the normal illuminance of interior without the effects of weather by controlling the LED depending on the brightness of outside. For the tests, 6 diffusers($600{\times}300mm$) were installed in lighting area($36m^2$) and normal operation of the system sensors were tested about the interference of sunlight. The results of the examinations were satisfied with the criteria of accredited tests. Further research is the verification of energy saving effect by comparing the Hybrid Dimming control system to current artificial light system.
The office is an excellent candidate for implementing daylighting techniques because of the relatively high electric lighting power densities and long daytime use pattern. The quantity of light available for a space can be translated in term of the amount of energy savings through a process of a building energy simulation. To get significant energy savings in general illumination, the electric lighting system must be incorporated with a daylight - activated dimmer control. A prototype configuration of an office interior has been established and the integration between the building envelope and lighting and HVAC systems is evaluated based on computer modeling of a lighting control facility. First of all, an energy-efficient luminaire system is designed for both a totally open-plan office interior and a partitioned office. A lighting design and analysis program, Lumen-Micro 2000 predicts the optimal layout of a conventional fluorescent lighting fixture to meet the designed lighting level and calculates unit power density, which translates the demanded amount of electric lighting energy. A dimming control system integrated with the contribution of daylighting has been applied to the operating of the artificial lighting. Annual cooling load due to lighting and the projecting saving amount of cooling load due to daylighting under overcast diffuse sky are evaluated by a computer software, ENER-Win. In brief, the results from building energy simulation with measured daylight illumination levels and the performance of lighting control system indicate that daylighting can save over 70 percent of the required energy for general illumination in the perimeter zones through the year. A 25 % of electric energy for cooling may be saved by dimming and turning off the luminaires in the perimeter zones.

The daylight responsive dimming systems, which use daylight and automatically controls the brightness of electric lighting, according to the amount of daylight coming into the indoor, as well as always maintains target illuminance, is an energy saving type system. The control slope that decide the dimming percent for dimming ballast to run this system efficiently should be decided exactly. This research ran performance assessment applying daylight responsive dimming systems to actual space, and supplemented control slope in the sky condition for the elevation of system. Also we revaluated a system by modified control slope and compiled valid propriety and alternative for the elevation system.
