  • One of the barriers limiting wide applications of magnesium alloys to various industries is their poor corrosion resistance. The corrosion properties of AZ91 magnesium alloy, which is the most popular magnesium casting alloy, are affected by microstructural and environmental factors. The corrosion properties of AZ91 magnesium alloy are affected by the corrosion properties of ${\alpha}-Mg$ and ${\beta}$ phases, the volume fraction and distribution of ${\beta}$ phase and area ratio of ${\alpha}-Mg/{\beta}$ phases. The corrosion properties of AZ91 magnesium alloy under various environments also change according to the passivity of films and types of corrosion products formed on its surface. The corrosion resistance of the magnesium alloys can be improved by microstructural control through the addition of alloying elements and optimization of the production process.

  • Applications of CdS films in this study are to exhibit a high conductivity when they are exposed at light with visible wavelength and sequentially to show a low conductivity in dark state. For this purpose, CdS films should have a high photosensitivity, still maintaining a high conductivity at a visible light. In this study, CdS films were prepared at room temperature on glass substrates by rf magnetron sputtering. In order to increase the photo-conductivity in visible light, various defect levels should be located within the CdS band gap. In order to nucleate the defect sites within the CdS band gap, CdS films were deposited on glass substrates at room temperature using various $H_2$/(Ar+$H_2$) flow ratios by an rf magnetron sputtering. Through the investigation of the structural and photoconductive properties of CdS films by an addition of hydrogen, the relationship between photo- and dark-resistance in CdS films was investigated in detail. 200-nm-thick CdS films for photoconductive sensor applications were prepared at various $H_2$/(Ar+$H_2$) flow ratios on glass substrates at room temperature by rf magnetron sputtering. Sulfur concentration in CdS films crystallized at room temperature with (002) preferred orientation depends directly on the hydrogen atmosphere and the surface roughness of the films gradually increases with increasing hydrogen atmosphere. Films deposited at 8% of $H_2$/(Ar+$H_2$) exhibit an abrupt decrease of dark- and photo-resistance, showing a low photo-sensitivity ($R_{dark}/R_{photo}$). Onthe other hand, films deposited at a hydrogen atmosphere of 42% exhibit a photo-sensitivity of $5\times10^3$, maintaining a photo-resistance of an approximately $2\times10^4\Omega$/square. The dark- and photo-resistance values of CdS films were related with a composition, surface roughness, and defect sites within the band gap.

  • Melting curve analysis of fluorescently labeled DNA fragments is used extensively for genotyping single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP). Here, we evaluated a SNP genotyping method by melting curve analysis with the two probe chemistries in a 384-well plate format on a Roche LightCycler 480. The HybProbe chemistry is based on the fluorescence resonance energy transfer(FRET) and the SimpleProbe chemistry uses a terminal self-quenching fluorophore. We evaluated FRET HybProbes and SimpleProbes for two SNP sites closely linked to two quantitative trait loci(QTL) for southern root-knot nematode resistance. These probes were used to genotype the two parents and 94 $F_2$ plants from the cross of PI 96354$\times$Bossier. The SNP genotypes of all samples determined by the LightCycler software agreed with previously determined SSR genotypes and the SNP genotypes determined on a Luminex 100 flow cytometry instrument. Multiplexed HybProbes for the two SNPs showed a 98.4% success rate and 100% concordance between repeats two of the same 96 DNA samples. Also, we developed a HybProbe assay for the Rcs3 gene conditioning broad resistance to the frogeye leaf spot(FLS) disease. The LightCycler 480 provides rapid PCR on 384-well plate and allows simultaneous amplification and analysis in approximately 2 hours without any additional steps after amplification. This allowed for a reduction of the potential contamination of PCR products, simplicity, and enablement of a streamlined workflow. The melting curve analysis on the LightCycler 480 provided high-throughput and rapid SNP genotyping and appears highly effective for marker-assisted selection in soybean.

  • The fungal genus Cercospora is one of the most ubiquitous groups of plant pathogenic fungi, and gray leaf spot caused by C. zeae-maydis is one of the most widespread and damaging foliar diseases of maize in the world. While light has been implicated as a critical environmental regulator of pathogenesis in C. zeae-maydis, the relationship between light and the development of disease is not fully understood. Recent discoveries have provided new insights into how light influences pathogenesis and morphogenesis in C. zeae-maydis, particularly at the molecular level. This review is focused on integrating old and new information to provide an updated perspective of how light influences pathogenesis, and provides a working model to explain some of the underlying molecular mechanisms. Ultimately, a thorough molecular-level understanding of how light regulates pathogenesis will augment efforts to manage gray leaf spot by improving host resistance and disease management strategies.

  • In order to develop highly-integrated RGBY(Red, Green, Blue, Yellow) LED light, a high thermal radiation ceramic package was manufactured, and the encapsulation process was applied with a vacuum printing encapsulation system(VPES). After the completion of vacuum printing, the shape of the encapsulation layer could be controlled by heat treatment during the curing process, and the optical power became highly increased as the encapsulation layer approached a dome shape. The optical characteristics involved in a Correlated Color Temperature(CCT), a Color Rendering Index (CRI), and the efficiency of RGBY LED light were able to be identified by the experimental designing method. Regarding the characteristics of the white light of RGBY LED light, which were measured on the basis of the aforementioned optical characteristics, CRI posted 88, CCT recorded 5,720[$^{\circ}K$], and efficiency exhibited 52[lm/W]. The chip temperature of RGBY LEDs was below 55[$^{\circ}C$] when the consumption power of LED chips was 0.1[W] for the red, 0.3[W] for the green, 0.08[W] for the blue, and 0.24[W] for the yellow. Also, the thermal resistance of the highly-integrated RGBY LED light measured by T3Ster was 2.3[K/W].

  • Recently, use of light-weight panel is increasing in building. Styrofoam sandwich panel is inexpensive and it is excellent in insulation ability and constructability. But styrofoam of panel inside is low ignition point. Consequently, when panel is fired, it is occur in poisonous gas. On the other hand, light-weight foamed concrete is excellent in insulation ability, fire resistance due to inner pore. Properties of light-weight concrete is influenced by foaming agent type. Accordingly, this study investigate in insulation property of according to foaming agent type in order to using light-weight foamed concrete instead of styrofoam. As a results, Non-heating zone temperature of light-weight foamed concrete of using AP, FP are lower than light-weight foamed concrete of using AES. Light-weight foamed concrete of using AES, FP are satisfied with fire performance of two hours at foam ratio 50, 100. Light-weight foamed concrete of using AP is satisfied with fire performance of two hours at AP ratio 0.1, 0.15. Insulation property is better closed pore by made AP, FP than open pore by made AES.

  • By harnessing the thermal hysteresis behavior of vanadium dioxide($VO_2$), we demonstrated multi-resistance states in a two-terminal electronic device based on a $VO_2$ thin film by using a 966nm infrared laser diode as an excitation light source for resistance modulation. Before stimulating the device using 966nm laser pulses, the thermal hysteresis behavior of the device resistance was measured by using a temperature chamber. After that, the $VO_2$ device was thermally biased at ${\sim}71.6^{\circ}C$ so that its temperature fell into the thermal hysteresis region of the device resistance. Six multi-states of the device resistance could be obtained in the fabricated $VO_2$ device by five successive laser pulses with equal 10ms duration and increasing power. Each resistance states were maintained while the temperature bias was applied. And, the resistance fluctuation level was within 2.2% of the stabilized resistance and decreased down to less than 0.9% of the stabilized resistance 5s after the illumination.

  • Cake resistance is influenced by floc size deposited on membrane surface. Enlarging floc size can reduce cake resistance. The small particles are enlarged by coagulation and flocculation process in conventional mixing tank at membrane filtration system. Fully-grown flocs for reducing the cake resistance, however, are ruptured while passing through a pump. In light of this fact, this study aims to experimentally look at the reaggregation phenomenon of mixing system. In addition, reaggregation phenomenon of mixing system is compared with first-aggregation of in-line injection system in which coagulant is injected just before a pump. These results suggest that first-aggregation of in-line injection system is better than reaggregation of mixing system for G-value above $3100sec^{-1}$. Since G-value in pipe of actual membrane filtration system are usually larger than $3100sec^{-1}$. The performance of in-line injection system is expected to be better than the conventional mixing tank system.
