Light reflectance and arc resistance of PTFE composites were investigated. PTFE composites have been used widely as a material for circuit breaker nozzle. Arc energy is transported to the nozzle material by radiation. It is needed to add some fillers to PTFE to avoid energy penetration into the nozzle material. In this paper, some fillers that have endurance in the high temperature arc environment were added into PTFE. The light reflectance and arc resistance of PTFE composites according to the kinds and content of fillers were investigated.

Ascophyllum nodosum (L.) Le Jolis has a systemic infection with the ascomycete Mycophycias ascophylli (Cotton) Kohlmeyer and Volkmann-Kohlmeyer with which it establishese a mutualistic symbiosis. In addition, A. nodosum is the host for the obligate red algal epiphyte, Vertebrata lanosa (L.) Christensen. Using light and electron microscopy we describe morphological and cytochemical changes occurring as a consequence of rhizoid penetration of V. lanosa into cortical host tissue. Rhizoids induce localized cell necrosis based on physical damage during rhizoid penetration. Host cells adjacent to the rhizoid selectively undergo a hypersensitive reaction in which they become darkly pigmented and become foci for hyphal development. Light and electron microscopy show that M. ascophylli forms dense hyphal aggregations on the surface of the V. lanosa rhizoid and extensive endophytic hyphal growths in the rhizoid wall. This is the first morphological evidence of an interaction between M. ascophylli and V. lanosa. We speculate that M. ascophylli may be interacting with V. lanosa to limit tissue damage to their shared host. In addition, the fungus provides a potential pathway for the transfer of materials (e.g., nutrients and photosynthate) between the two phototrophs.

Spray characteristics of diesel fuel injection is one of the most important factors in diesel combustion and pollutant emissions especially in HSDI (High Speed Direct Injection) diesel engines where the interval between the onset of combustion and the evaporation of atomized fuel is relatively short, An investigation into various spray characteristics from different holes of VCO(Valve Covered Orifice) nozzles was performed and its results were compared to standard sac nozzle. The global characteristics of spray, including spray angle, spray tip penetration, and spray pattern were measured from the spray images which were frozen by an instantaneous photography with a spark light source. For better understanding of spray behavior, SMD of the fuel sprays from multi hole nozzles were measured with back light imaging while the sprays from the other holes are covered by a purpose-built nozzle cap. The investigation manifestly reveals the different spray patterns at the beginning of injection produced by VCO nozzles can be identified as three distinct types with their own macroscopic and microscopic characteristics, while macroscopic non-uniformity disappears at 0.9∼1.0ms from the start of injection.
The electromagnetic (light) waves have a limitation to penetrate media, ie, water and sea-bottom layers, due to high energy attenuation, but acoustic (sound) waves play as the good messenger to gather the underwater target information. Therefore, the acoustic methods are applied to almost all of ocean equipments and technology in terms of in-water and sub-bottom surveys. Generally the sound character is controlled by its frequency. In case that the sound source is low frequency, the penetration is high and the resolution is low. On the other hand, its character is reversed at the high frequency. The common character at the both of light and sound is the energy damping according to the travel distance increase.
The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of canal irrigants and the method of canal filling on the quality of canal obturation. Sixty extracted human teeth with single root were selected and divided into three different groups; In group I (control); 5 cc normal saline irrigated after each instrumentation In group II; 2.5 cc-3% NaOCl in combination with 2.5 cc-3% $H_2O_2$ In group III; RC-Prep in combination with 5 cc-3% NaOCl All specimens were cleaned, shaped(#50 file size), irrigated and obturated by lateral condensation and automated thermatic condensation filling method of gutta-percha and AH-26. After all the specimens were immersed in 2% methylene blue dye solution in $37^{\circ}C$ for 7 days and the degree of dye penetration into the canals observed by magnifying glass(${\times}$20) and reflected light microscope The results were as follows: 1. All the the teeth showed some degree of the dye penetration. 2. There were no significant difference among three groups in the degree of the dye penetration in each canal filling method. 3. There were no significant difference of the dye penetration between each canal filling method in group I. 4. There were no statistically significant difference of the dye penetration between each canal filling method in group II and group III, but lateral condensation group was showed slightly more than automated thermatic condensation group.
The purpose of this study was to investigate effect of enamel matrix derivative on guided bone regeneration with intramarrow penetration in rabbits. Eight adult male rabbits (mean BW 2Kg) were used in this study. Intramarrow penetration defects were surgically created with round carbide bur(HP long #6) on calvaria of rabbits. Defects were assigned to the control group grafted with mixture of the same quantity of demineralized freeze-dried bone allograft and deproteinized bovine bone mineral. Then, guided bone regeneration was carried out using resorbable membrane and suture. Enamel matrix derivative applied to defects was assigned to the test group. And treated as same manners as the control group. At 1, 2, 3 and 8 weeks after the surgery, animals were sacrificed, specimens were obtained and stained with Hematoxylin-Eosin for light microscopic evaluation. The results of this study were as follows : 1. At 1, 2 and 3 weeks, no differences were observed between the control group and the test group in the aspect of bone formation around bone graft. 2. Proliferation of blood capillary was faster in the test group than in the control group. 3. Bone regeneration in intramarrow penetration was faster in the test group than in the control group. 4. At 8 weeks, new osteoid tissue formation around bone graft was more prominent in the test group than in the control group. From the above results, enamel matrix derivative might be considered as the osteopromotion material and effective in the guided bone regeneration with intramarrow penetration.
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is one of the expectable current cure operation methods. Tumor tissue is treated by abundant oxygen in a body and generated singlet or free radical from exterior laser diode and photosensitizer. Current problem of PDT is the low penetration power of the light beam in a deep seated large tumor and solid tumor thus results in low treatment outcome. In the study, we tried to develop interstitial photodynamics therapy treatment to solve this problem. As the accurate determination of light dosimetry in biological tissue is one of the most important factors affecting the effectiveness of PDT, parameters used in this study are the optical property of biological tissue. Since biological tissues have large scattering coefficient to visible light the penetration depth of a biological tissue in visible light region is only $15\~20$ mm. We showed that it is possible to measure fluence rate and penetration depth within the biological tissues by Monte Carlo simulation very well. Based on the MC simulation study, the effectiveness of interstitial photodynamic therapy on tumor control in solid tumor was proved through in vivo animal experiment.
A hypothesis that artificial reforming of corn canopy could improve solar light penetration and dry matter production was tested in corn fields (var. Suwon 19) with three planting densities; low (60 ${\times}$ 40cm), medium (60 ${\times}$ 24cm) and high (60 ${\times}$ 16cm). Natural canopy was found that leaf orientations were even over all azimuth but somewhat inclined toward north-south direction and leaf angle ranged 38$^{\circ}$ to 71$^{\circ}$ from horizontal surface. Reforming corn canopy included following treatments: 1) natural canopy planted in north-south rows (natural canopy), 2)east-west plane canopy planted in north-south rows (E-W canopy), 3)east-west plane canopy and upright leaves in north-south rows, 4)north-south plane canopy (N-S canopy) in east-west rows. After corn plots were installed with training system by supporting poles and connecting wires, corn leaves were induced to a reforming direction and tied on wire. Average light intensity at the mid-point of plant height showed 5-10% increases in E-W canopy and in E-W canopy plus upright leaves, but a 2-10% decrease in N-S canopy from natural canopy. At yellow ripe stage, total dry wt. was increased in E-W canopy but not in N-S canopy. The E-W canopy produced 3-10% more grain yield than natural canopy. Though E-W canopy plus upright leaves yielded less at low density, it yielded up to 10% more at higher density. The N-S canopy yielded similar to low compared with natural canopy. These results suggests that reforming canopy toward solar incident direction increases light penetration into lower canopy, photosynthetic efficiency and grain yield, especially at high planting density in corn.

In these several years, as many people have been attracted by the functional cosmetics, there are a lot of study to enhance the stability of active ingredients for light, heat, oxygen, etc. in the academic and industrial field. Especially, catechin is well known as strong anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and reducing agent for oxidative stress but it is very unstable for light, heat, oxygen. etc. In this study, the stability and skin penetration of catechin are improved by 3-dimensional method. As I-dimension, porous silica is prepared using sol-gel method, and then catechin is adsorbed in pores of silica. As 2-dimension, solid lipid nanoparticles (SLN) are obtained using non-phospholipid vesicles. Finally 3-dimension is completion through lamellar phase self-organization that combines SLN catechin with skin lipid matrix. We used laser light scattering system, cyro-SEM, chromameter, HPLC and image analyzer to analyze our 3-dimentional systems. According to chromameter date, the color stability of 3-dimensional catechin is enhanced by 5-10 times compared with general liposome systems. We also confirmed through HPLC analysis that 3-dimensional catechin is more long lasting. The effect of skin penetration and wrinkle reduction are improved, too.
