  • We propose the asymmetric 2.5Gbps/622Mbps PON(Passive Optical Network) in order to reduce the bandwith of filter at receiver with inverse RZ(Return to Zero) code coded downstream and NRZ(Non Return to Zero) upstream re-modulation. I theoretically analyze BER(Bit Error Rate) performance and the power sensitivity with the optimal threshold level by performing simulation with MATLAB according to the types of downstream data. The results have shown that the optimal threshold level at the optical receiver could be saturated at 0.33 as the optical received power increase more than -26dBm to keep $10^{-12}$ of BER to a minimum. Also the power sensitivity is more improved by about 3dB by fixing the threshold level at 0.33 than the conventional receiver. The proposed system can be a useful technology for optical access networks with asymmetric upstream and downstream data rates because the optical receiver can be used without controlling threshold levels and that does not require a light source in optical network unit (ONU) and its control circuits in the optical line termination (OLT).

  • The PET scanner can detect the photon pair arriving from the source in phantom. The number of light photons released by the crystal(scintillator-BGO or LSO). In recent scintillation crystals in block structures were incorporated into full ring systems, and their resulted marked improvement in spatial resolution and increase in a sensitivity to annihilations. The uniformity of the crystal sensitivity is very important to makes correct information of abnormal states in organs. These factors influenced by the dection efficiency of the scintillators. We have study about the uniformity of crystals to the annihilation, And study about the standard deviation to average counts. The relative standard deviation in central detector groups more uniformed than circumferenced detector groups. It is caused detected quanta of gamma ray by the geometrical factors of PET detector. PET cameras are available with different geometric arrangement and several parallel rings oriented in the axial direction. The center groups from 7th to 40th groups are comparatively uniform and sensitive. But at the circumferenced detectors decreased the sensitivity and uniformity.

  • There are 3 UV DNA repair endonuclease activities in mammalian cells that cleave UV -irradiated DNA. Interestingly, mammalian UV endonuclease III with MW of 26.7kD has a lyase activity on AP sites. It also cleaves the phosphodiester bond within a cyclobutane pyrimidine dimer. Genomic analysis of human repair endonuclease III gene revealed that this gene has 100% sequence identity with ribosomal protein S3 (rpS3). Therefore, rpS3 seems to function both in translation and in DNA repair. This gene of about 6.1 kb contains 6 introns and 7 exons, and the first and fifth introns of human rpS3 gene contain functional U15 small nucleolar (sno) RNAs which appear to be involved in ribosome assembly. It is to be noted that the column profile of the endonuclease activity of rpS3 appears to be altered in Xeroderma Pigmentosum (XP) group D cells compared to normal cells indicating that this protein is involved in XP disease as well. XP is a human disease characterized by high sensitivity of skin by UV- or sun-light irradiation and by high frequency of developing skin cancers. We also report here that rpS3 protein is involved in other cellular functions.

  • By introducing Mondrian's creative world into the field of fashion design, I examined how its application can satisfy not only visual expressions but also the desire of fashion design for its simplicity, individuality, and sensitivity. As a program developing designs and guiding how to produce, the textile CAD system helps to develop a variety of textile systems. In case of dying or textile printing, a variety of free expressions of print patterns and functional color simulations are possible by the configuration of colors or enlargement of design. It can also confirm the flexible simulation with a variety of color changes through the monitor by treating the knit design with dots. Especially in case of consulting for the design with ordering customers, the system is very speedy and effective, because it is possible to correct on the spot those complicated elements of designs and color sensation and see the prints in the light of marketing, processing and artistic value. Mondrian's Art, beauty of balance and proportion in the Mondrian's plastic forms, the changes of coloring and texture were added into vertical and horizontal lines and the divisions of faces for the dressmaking. Whether they were the reciprocal action of human body, texture and color or the reciprocal action of human body and colors, these changes will be interpreted differently, depending on the individuals' experiences and psychological moods of situations. The emphases of the sense are also different, depending on the activity and functionality.

  • This paper deals with an economic evaluation of hydrogen production by fermentation. We evaluate the economic feasibility of domestic hydrogen production by fermentation utilizing glucose and waste water sludge in terms of hydrogen production prices. In addition, we make some sensitivity analysis of hydrogen prices by changing the values of input factors such as the price of glucose, the capital cost of the hydrogen production system, and the hydrogen production yields. The estimated hydrogen prices of the two-step dark-light hydrogen production by fermentation utilizing glucose was $5,347won/kgH_2$, and the single-step hydrogen production by anaerobic fermentation utilizing waste water sludge was $4,255won/kgH_2$, respectively. It is expected that the hydrogen production price by anaerobic fermentation can be reduced if we produce methane or hydrogen utilizing by-products such as alcohols and organic acids, or the government imposes some legal regulations on the treatment of waste water sludge.

  • The chemical and photochemical decolorization of Rhodamine B (RhB) in water has been carried out by Fenton, Fenton-like and photo-Fenton-like process. The effect of applied $H_2O_2,\;Fe^{2+}$ dosage (Fenton process), $H_2O_2,\;Fe^{\circ}$ dosage (Fenton-like and photo-Fenton-like process), UV light power (photo-Fenton-like process) pH (all processes) have been studied. The results obtained showed that more than 98% of color removal was obtained for the RhB solutions in every process. However, Fenton-like process was not suitable for the color removal of RhB because Fenton-like process was required much more reagents than Fenton and photo-Fenton-like process. The Fenton and photo-Fenton-like process showed similar reagents need. Optimum pH for three processes in this study is about pH 3. The relative order of sensitivity for pH of each process was: Fenton-like > photo-Fenton-like > Fenton.

  • Since 'The Act on Private Investment of The Infrastructure' was established in 1994, private investment as well as government's investment has been active on transport infrastructure. But investment of transport infrastructure has more risks than others due to overforecast of transport demand for ensuring project validity, and cost uncertainty arising from financial crisis, commodity prices and so on. In the case of Incheon international airport express, after 2 years and 6 months, Incheon international airport express is opened, Korail take over equity stake in private investor due to the problems of MRG(Minimum Revenue Guarantee) be contracted with private investor. Not only that, in other case of Yong-in light rail, it is ongoing for legal disputes between Yong-in local government and private investor on account of opening delaying. On current Investment Assessment System of Transport Infrastructure, Risk Management system on investment of transport infrastructure is inadequate because Sensitivity Analysis in economic efficiency have been performed on the simple method which only changes benefits, expense and social discount rate. For this reason, this study analyze risks for investment of transport infrastructure demand forecast, and rise to the management practice for every particular item.

  • The speckle pattern is formed by laser light from a multimode optical fiber. The speckle fluctuation is the result of interference among propagation modes when the optical fiber is subjected to a mechanical distortion at any point along its length. The experiments were carried on for the study of the feasibility of producing an intrusion detection system using the speckle fluctuation. The speckle fluctuation signals were monitored at real time by an oscilloscope which was connected with an amplifier and a filter. The experiment results showed that the intrusion sensor had enough sensitivity to detect an intruder.

  • The purpose of this study was to observe histopathologically the influence of advanced periodontitis on pulp tissue, and to conclude the correlation between the results with clinical manifestations. The samples were teeth with over 7mm pocket depth and over 50% radiographic bone loss. These were diagnosed to have very poor prognosis and thus planned to be extracted. Those with any of following conditions were excluded from the samples, loss of vitality, periapical pathology, restoration or prosthesis, dental caries, and attrition or abrasion. It was because these conditions could affect pulp without any correlation with periodontal disease. For the experiment, 17 teeth from 11 patients were selected. Average age of patient was 47. Each tooth was examined for following categoris; pocket depth, gingival recession, electric pulp test, mobility, percussion test, sensitivity test. The extracted teeth were fixed buffered neutral formalin solution. It was decalcified using 4% nitric acid. Sliced histological samples observed using light microscope, for pulp status, and severeity of inflammation. 4 samples were excluded due to histologic sample discrepency. Thus 13 samples were subject to observation. 4 showed normal conditions. Focal reversable pulpitis was shown in 5 samples. Chronic pulpitis was observed 1 sample. Pulpal abscess was observed in 3 samples.
