Properties of Indigenous Korean Paper(Hanji) - Classification of Oebal(single frame)Papermaking Methods - (토착한지의 특성 - 외발 초지법 분류를 중심으로 -)

  • This study was carried out to classify the Hanjis into three groups that were indigenous Hanji, traditional Hanji, and improved Hanji handmade by paper making method according to the physical properties of each paper sheet such as tensile, bursting and tearing strength, folding endurance and fiber orientation in each layer. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1. The multi-layered Hanjis made by "Oebal" Hanji making method in different direction of fiber orientation have good properties in tearing resistance. 2. The multi-layered Hanji in different direction of fiber orientation has good properties in the tearing resistance, but the burst index and the breaking length results were lower than the single layered Hanjis. 3. The different fiber orientation and multi-layered method didn't increase, the three indexes(burst index, tear index, breaking length). Only, the different direction of fiber orientation decreased the difference of width and length strength (tensile, tear) of the Hanji. 4. "Dochim"(Korean finishing touch process for indigenous Hanji by fulling round sticks) greatly increase folding endurance(double folds, not $log_{10}$) and good effect to tensile strength and burst strength. 5. The today's Oebal Hanji were the maximum of 2 layers and the indigenous Oebal Hanji were 16 layers the maximum. In addition, average of the indigenous Oebal Hanji was 4 layers(all 4-layer Hanji were the different fiber orientation of each layer). 6, The indigenous Hanji(multi-layered, and different fiber orientation) was good condition with "Dochim". Dochim increased tensile strength and burst strength of the indigenous Hanji. So the three-strength indexes were similar level("--"). 7. When the number of layer which were same fiber orientation increase, the increased Hanji became similar strength pattern("V", breaking length and burst index was higher than tear index) with "Ssangbal" Hanji. 8. The single layered papers that made by "Oebal" Hanji making method were similar strength pattern with Ssangbal Hanji. 9. There was no way to find the width and length direction of multi-layered Hanji by comparison between the difference of tensile strength and the difference of tearing resistance. 10. The compared pattern of tensile strength and tearing resistance of indigenous Oebal Hanji was different from today's Oebal Hanji. Especially, the tearing resistance of all indigenous Oebal Hanji(16 samples) was stronger on width of tearing resistance. And in the half of indigenous Oebal Hanji samples, the width of tensile strength and tearing resistance was stronger than length strength (Indigenous Oebal: '$\ulcorner\lrcorner$' 50%, '$\bigcup$' 50% $\leftrightarrow$ Today's Oebal: '$\ulcorner\lrcorner$' 12%, '$\bigcup$'6%, '$\llcorner\urcorner$'17%, '$\bigcap$'65%). In 65% today's Oebal, the length direction of tensile strength and tearing resistance was stronger than the width direction.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the shelf-life and quality of breads made with 0.5, 1 and 2% of Myagropsis myagroides fermented ethanol extracts (MOE). The total microbial count in breads made with 2% MOE decreased to about 1.6 log cycles as compared to that of breads not containing MOE. The protection index measured by rancimat increased with an increase in the quantity of MOE in the breads. During the storage period, the pH value was not different between breads containing MOE and breads not containing MOE. The lightness and redness of the breads decreased with an increase in the quantity of MOE, while the yellowness increased. In the sensory evaluation, the breads containing 0.5% MOE were more preferred than the breads not containing MOE. These results suggest that the addition of 0.5% MOE to breads has a good effect on improving the shelf-life and overall quality.

Shelf Life Extension of Wasabi Paste Products by Addition of Citric Acid (구연산 첨가에 의한 와사비 페이스트 제품의 저장성 향상)

  • In order to extend the shelf life of Wasabi paste, the effects of citric acid were confirmed at $35^{\circ}C$ for 28 days. Citric acid-treated groups contained citric acid in amounts of 0.05, 0.10, 0.17, 0.30, and 0.40%, respectively. Quality characteristics of Wasabi pastes were determined in pH, titratable acidity, soluble solid content, color values, microbial analysis (aerobic bacteria, yeast), gas production, and content of allyl isothiocyanate. The pH and titratable acidities of Wasabi pastes added with citric acid were indicated as 4.03-5.19 and 4.23-4.82%, respectively. Soluble solid content was significantly different according to concentrations of citric acid. L values showed the highest at $50.05{\pm}0.46$. a and b values were increased during the storage period. Total aerobic bacteria and yeast counts of Wasabi pastes were decreased in a dose-dependent manner. Gas production from Wasabi pastes showed at 19.55-19.80 mL/tube after 28 days of storage. The addition of citric acid (0.3% or more) to the Wasabi paste resulted in increased storage stability.

Simplified Method for Estimation of Mean Residual Life of Rubble-mound Breakwaters (경사제의 평균 잔류수명 추정을 위한 간편법)

  • A simplified model using the lifetime distribution has been presented to estimate the Mean Residual Life (MRL) of rubble-mound breakwaters, which is not like a stochastic process model based on time-dependent history data to the cumulative damage progress of rubble-mound breakwaters. The parameters involved in the lifetime distribution can be easily estimated by using the upper and lower limits of lifetime and their likelihood that made a judgement by several experts taking account of the initial design lifetime, the past sequences of loads, and others. The simplified model presented in this paper has been applied to the rubble-mound breakwater with TTP armor layer. Wiener Process (WP)-based stochastic model also has been applied together with Monte-Carlo Simulation (MCS) technique to the breakwater of the same condition having time-dependent cumulative damage to TTP armor layer. From the comparison of lifetime distribution obtained from each models including Mean Time To Failure (MTTF), it has found that the lifetime distributions of rubble-mound breakwater can be very satisfactorily fitted by log-normal distribution for all types of cumulative damage progresses, such as exponential, linear, and logarithmic deterioration which are feasible in the real situations. Finally, the MRL of rubble-mound breakwaters estimated by the simplified model presented in this paper have been compared with those by WP stochastic process. It can be shown that results of the presented simplified model have been identical with those of WP stochastic process until any ages in the range of MTT F regardless of the deterioration types. However, a little of differences have been seen at the ages in the neighborhood of MTTF, specially, for the linear and logarithmic deterioration of cumulative damages. For the accurate estimation of MRL of harbor structures, it may be desirable that the stochastic processes should be used to consider properly time-dependent uncertainties of damage deterioration. Nevertheless, the simplified model presented in this paper can be useful in the building of the MRL-based preventive maintenance planning for several kinds of harbor structures, because of which is not needed time-dependent history data about the damage deterioration of structures as mentioned above.

Quality changes in ready-to-eat hamburg steak depending on the packaging methods during chilled storage (포장 방법에 따른 즉석섭취형 함박스테이크의 냉장저장 중 품질 변화)

  • Changes in the various quality characteristics of hamburg steak depending on the packaging methods were investigated during storage at $5{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ for up to 15 days. Three packaging treatments including vacuum packaging (VAP), air-containing packaging (AC), and oxygen scavenger packaging (OS) were applied in this experiment. The initial total aerobe bacteria counts were identical at 2.3 log CFU/g in all treatments, but the growth rate of total aerobe bacteria in the AC samples was significantly faster than the VAP and OS samples during storage. The changes in the TBA and VBN values over the storage time showed that lipid oxidation and protein spoilage developed fastest in the AC sample, followed by OS and then VAP samples. The instrumental color and texture profiles were not significantly differ between treatments during storage (p>0.05). After 12 days of storage at $5^{\circ}C$, evaluation of the samples' sensory attributes showed that the AC samples had become unmarketable with a score of less than 5.0 points for all sensory properties, whereas the VAP and OS samples were still marketable.

Oncologic Outcome of Sacral Chordoma (천골에 발생한 척색종의 치료결과)

  • Purpose: We analyzed treatment result to examine the outcome for patients with sacral chordoma and to determine relevant prognostic factors. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 19 patients with sacral chordoma seen at out institution between 1990 and 2010. There were 9 men and 10 women with mean age of 56 years. The average follow up was 63 months (range, 25-144 months). 15 patient received surgical treatment, six of these patient had wide, eight had marginal, one had intralesional margin and 4 patient treated with Radiation therapy only. Results: The disease free and overall survival rate for all 19 patients was 34.7% and 79.7% at 5-years, respectively. Statistical analysis using the log-rank test revealed no significant difference between the surgery and radiation therapy groups in overall survival (p=0.54). Nine of 19 patients had local recurrence at a median of 2.5 years postoperatively. Seven of these 9 patients had distant metastasis at a median of 4.5 years postoperatively. Among the variables, tumor size (p=0.033) and tumor involvement of above S3 (p=0.032) were independent prognostic factor for overall survival. Nine of 15 patients who received surgical treatment had postoperative complication such as voiding difficulty and incontinence. Conclusion: Careful consideration of the patient general condition and predictable complication of the treatment might be the best way to improve patient's survival and quality of life.

Analysis on Yarding Productivity and Cost of Tower-Yarder Based on Excavator Using Radio-Controlled Double Clamp Carriage (2중 무선 클램프 반송기를 이용한 굴삭기 기반 타워야더의 생산성 및 비용 분석)

  • This study was conducted in clear cutting stands. For the whole-tree yarding operation, a tower-yarder based on excavator with a radio-controlled double clamp carriage was applied to analyze yarding productivity and cost. The productivity and cost of yarding operation was $6.2m^3/SMH$(machine utilization rate, 80.4%) and $13,705won/m^3$, respectively. Although the maximum yarding distance was longer than the previous studies, the setting up time of the tower-yarder was decreased as used straw line. The application of the radio-controlled double clamp carriage improved productivity and reduced costs. Based on the fuel log and growing stock($137.0m^3/ha$), the minimum production($m^3$) and area(ha) were $558.3m^3$ and 4.1 ha for Pinus rigida stands and $433.7m^3$ and 3.2 ha for Quercus mongolica stands, respectively. Based on the this study, it will be possible to select an efficient yarding machine by accumulation of data on minimum production and area for many machines in various harvesting sites.

The Effects of the Biodiversity Increase after Creation of the Artificial Wetland -The Case of Ecological Pond at Seoul Technical High School- (인공습지 조성후 생물다양성 증진 효과에 관한 연구 -서울공고 생태연못을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the creation techniques of artificial wetland, one of biotopes developed to promote biodiversity in urban areas, and to look for improvement steps. Specifically, artificial wetland creation techniques were categorized into living environment and living creature classification. Being living conditions for creations, habitat environment was reviewed with a focus on water and soil environments. Living creatures were classified into plants, insects, fish, and birds. The evaluation of creation techniques was done in post-construction evaluation while considering the creation of habitats for living creatures. Intervention by users, changes in living environment and living species, and relevance of creation techniques were reviewed. Key results of this study are as follows. (1) Water environment for the living environment of creatures provides a suitable environment conditions for the living of creatures through a process easing the use of piped water. Various water depths and embankment appear to have a positive impact on the living of aquatic life. In particular, embankment covered in soil naturally played an important role as a place for the activities of aquatic insects and young fish as well as the growth of aquatic plants. (2) Various aquatic and ground plants to promote insect-diversity, shallow water, and old-tree logs had contributed greatly in increasing the types and number of insects. Aquatic insects. Aquatic insects were seen much particularly in areas where aquatic plants are rich but water is shallow than any other areas. (3) A space piled with stone to provide habitats for fish was not much used. However, it was observed that fish used embankment built with natural stones and embankment using logs in areas where water is deep. In addition, it was confirmed that 1,500 fish that had been released propagated using various depths and places for birth. (4) It was analyzed that techniques (creation of island, log setting, and creation of man-made bird nests) to provide habitats and to attract birds are not serving their roles. In such a case, it is believed that species had not increased due to the smallness as well as isolated features of the area. Based on theoretical review, they are judged to be areas that are likely to be used when a greater variety of birds is introduced. It is judged that attracting and keeping more birds at the site, such spaces need to be linked systematically in the future in terms of building eco-network while ensuring an adequate living areas. (5) In the study areas, users intervened greatly. As a result, a blockage was created preventing the normal growth of plants and non-indigenous plants were introduced. In order to limit the intervention by users, setting enough buffer zones, and environment education programs were urgently required. D/H=1>Hyangkyo> houses on the river>temples>lecture halls.   • We lead a life in our community, beginning a new relationship with a stranger or maintaining or stopping existing relationships. Relationships with others are sustained through social activities based on communication. Generally speaking, by exchanging feelings and information through communication, relationships are formed and continued, and strengthened through active communication As a result of the development of technologies and information technology over the recent 10 years, a mobile phone has stood as a communication channel, and now it has become such a universal, and highly intimate and important means of communication that almost all the Koreans use more often than wired phones. Today, people have their communication channel available for others, by using a mobile phone at any time and anywhere. Like this, mobile phones have been playing a key role in helping people maintain, repair and strengthen their personal relationship, but from the perspective of personal relationship management, they still remain as an aid to help communication, failing to provide a positive help for actual relationship management. This study was designed to provide services supporting user's personal relationship management, focusing on the use of mobile phones as a major tool of communication, aiming to enable users to understand current state of their relationship and make relationship management efforts, or communication behaviors, by informing who needs communication, on the basis of data on mobile phone calls. To this end, the study established a method to extract intimacy between users and callers and develop a prototype of services supporting personal relationship management, using relationship characteristics in terms of mobile communication.

Functional Properties of Mugwort Extracts and Quality Characteristics of Noodles Added Mugwort Powder (쑥 추출물의 기능성과 쑥국수의 품질특성)

  • This study was investigated to develope health promoting and high quality of mugwort noodle. Mugwort powder was extracted with water and 70% ethanol and the extracts were tested it electron donating ability (EDA), nitrite scavenging ability (NSA) and inhibitory effects on MDA cell and A549 cell. EDA at 100-1,000 ppm of water extract was ranged f개m 73% to 81% and that of ethanol extract was ranged from 74% to 92% NSA of water extract was 40% and ethanol extract was 41% at 1,000 ppm, which were the highest at pH 1.2. NSA was increased with increasing conncentration of mugwort extracts and decreasing pH. Inhibition ratio of water and ethanol extracts on MDA cell growth was 30 and 27% while that on A549 cell was 22% and 23% at 1,000 ppm, respectively. Quality characteristics of mugwort none were evaluated by their color, shelf life na sensory characteristics. Lightness (L) and redness(a) of dried noodle and cooked noodle were decreased with increasing mugwort concentration(p<0.05). The number of total viable cells and fungi in mugwort noodle was $0.5{\sim}0.7log$ cycles lower than that of contro. In sensory evaluation of dried noodles and cooked noodles, noodles with 2% mugwort powder had significant high scores in overall acceptability.
