Edwardsiella tarda is a broadly infectious agent against freshwater and seawater fishes. In the present study, E. tarda specific phage was isolated from fish farms on the west coast of Korea, and the effect of environmental factors such as pH and water temperature on the phage activity was investigated. As a fish model, Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) was used and the interaction between E. tarda and phage was investigated. The phage activity, in pH test, appeared even higher in seawater than freshwater and was evenly constant up to $50^{\circ}C$. The phage and E. tarda were inoculated in tilapia and the phage activity and E. tarda viability were checked on the time intervals. As a result, the number of E. tarda in the group of E. tarda plus phage was constantly reduced to 24 hr post-inoculation compared to the control group without phage, whereas the phage activity was slightly increased in the experiment group. The results suggest that it might be possible to use phage to control the fish disease caused by E. tarda.
For developing a canopy photosynthesis model, an efficient method to measure the photosynthetic rate in a growth chamber is required. The objective of this study was to develop a method for establishing canopy photosynthetic rate curves of romaine lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) with light intensity and CO2 concentration variables using controlled growth chamber. The plants were grown in plant factory modules, and the canopy photosynthesis rates were measured in sealed growth chambers made of acrylic (1.0 × 0.8 × 0.5 m). First, the canopy photosynthetic rates of the plants were measured, and then the time constants were compared between two application methods: 1) changing light intensity (340, 270, 200, and 130 μmol·m-2·s-1) at a fixed CO2 concentration (1,000 μmol·mol-1) and 2) changing CO2 concentration (600, 1,000, 1,400, and 1,800 μmol·mol-1) at a fixed light intensity (200 μmol·m-2·s-1). Second, the canopy photosynthetic rates were measured by changing the light intensity at a CO2 concentration of 1,000 μmol·mol-1 and compared with those measured by changing the CO2 concentration at a light intensity of 200 μmol·m-2·s-1. The time constant when changing the CO2 concentration at the fixed light intensity was 3.2 times longer, and the deviation in photosynthetic rate was larger than when changing the light intensity. The canopy photosynthetic rate was obtained stably with a time lag of one min when changing the light intensity, while a time lag of six min or longer was required when changing the CO2 concentration. Therefore, changing the light intensity at a fixed CO2 concentration is more appropriate for short-term measurement of canopy photosynthesis using a growth chamber.
Moving train load parameters, including train speed, axle spacing, gross train weight and axle weights, are identified based on strain-monitoring data. In this paper, according to influence line theory, the classic moving force identification method is enhanced to handle time-varying velocity of the train. First, the moments that the axles move through a set of fixed points are identified from a series of pulses extracted from the second derivative of the structural strain response. Subsequently, the train speed and axle spacing are identified. In addition, based on the fact that the integral area of the structural strain response is a constant under a unit force at a unit speed, the gross train weight can be obtained from the integral area of the measured strain response. Meanwhile, the corrected second derivative peak values, in which the effect of time-varying velocity is eliminated, are selected to distribute the gross train weight. Hence the axle weights could be identified. Afterwards, numerical simulations are employed to verify the proposed method and investigate the effect of the sampling frequency on the identification accuracy. Eventually, the method is verified using the real-time strain data of a continuous steel truss railway bridge. Results show that train speed, axle spacing and gross train weight can be accurately identified in the time domain. However, only the approximate values of the axle weights could be obtained with the updated method. The identified results can provide reliable reference for determining fatigue deterioration and predicting the remaining service life of railway bridges.

A generally applicable computer simulation program for diffused silicon solar cells has been developed on the basis of the experimental results. The program can be easily used to obtain the spectral response and I-V characteristics for N+P, P+N N+PP+, P+NN+cells by changing various input parameters. The insolated spectra can be taken from AMI and constant intensity and GE - ELH lamp light sources. The options for AR coating are Si3N4 film and materials with constant reflectance including zero reflectance for ideal case. The computer simulation demonstrates successful results compared with the measured values for the short circuit current, open circuit voltage, efficiency, spectral response, quantum efficiency, I-V characteristics, etc. This program was used to optimize doping concentration, cell thickness, light concentration, junction depth, and to obtain the limit values for front surface recornbination velocity, effective carrier life time in the depletion regions and shunt resistance, and also to drive the changing rate in conversion efficiency depending on operation temperature, series resistance and electric field strength in N+P+ bulk regions.

Constituents of several .representative seaweeds, such as wakame Undaria pinnatifida; hijikia Hizikia fusifome; and kombu Laminaria japonica, were found to have fairly large reaction rates determined by quenching experiments of emission spectra in the near-infrared region (1max: 1270 nm) from singlet oxygen (102). Emission spectra of singlet oxygen generated from an aqueous solution of Rose Bengal under irradiation with a green laser (330 nm) were measured by a near-infrared (NIR) emission spectrometer constructed in our laboratory. The quenching experiments were as follows: Intensities of emission spectra were measured in the absence (I0) and in the presence of the seaweed constituents (I): Ratios of I0/I were plotted against every concentration of the quenchers (Stern-Volmer plots) which gives a straight line. The slope of each line gives a kqt value which gives a quenching constant kq value (an antioxidative constant against singlet oxygen) when the t value (half-life time of singlet oxygen in the solvent used) was given. The determined reaction rates are between 103-105 (g/l)-ls-1; the larger ones are as large as that of ascorbic acid, 8.4 ${\times}$ 104 (g/1)-ls-1. Most of these seaweed constituents also showed antioxidative activity against auto-oxidation and superoxide as well as their immunological enhancing activity. These results suggest a possibility that dietary fibers which are supposed to prevent the large-intestine cancer by their physical properties may prevent the cancer, at least in parts, by their chemical, antioxidative activity.
A powder form of aluminum (hydr)oxides is not suitable in wastewater treatment/filtration systems because of low hydraulic conductivity and large sludge production. In this study, aluminum (hydr)oxide-coated sand (AOCS) was used to remove phosphate from aqueous solution. The properties of AOCS were analyzed using a scanning electron microscopy (SEM) combined with an energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDS) and an X-ray diffractometer (XRD). Kinetic batch, equilibrium batch, and closed-loop column experiments were performed to examine the adsorption of phosphate to AOCS. The XRD pattern indicated that the powder form of aluminum (hydr)oxides coated on AOCS was similar to a low crystalline boehmite. Kinetic batch experiments demonstrated that P adsorption to AOCS reached equilibrium after 24 h of reaction time. The kinetic sorption data were described well by the pseudo second-order kinetic sorption model, which determined the amount of P adsorbed at equilibrium ($q_e$ = 0.118 mg/g) and the pseudo second-order velocity constant (k = 0.0036 g/mg/h) at initial P concentration of 25 mg/L. The equilibrium batch data were fitted well to the Freundlich isotherm model, which quantified the distribution coefficient ($K_F$ = 0.083 L/g), and the Freundlich constant (1/n = 0.339). The closed-loop column experiments showed that the phosphate removal percent decreased from 89.1 to 41.9% with increasing initial pH from 4.82 to 9.53. The adsorption capacity determined from the closed-loop experiment was 0.239 mg/g at initial pH 7.0, which is about two times greater than that ($q_e$ = 0.118 mg/g) from the kinetic batch experiment at the same condition.
The purpose of this study was to examine the allometric analysis of roxithromycin using pharmacokinetic data. The pharmacokinetic parameters used were $half-life(t_{1/2})$, mean residence time (MRT), clearance (Cl) and volume of distribution at steady state $(V_{ss})$. Relationships between body weight and the pharmacokinetic parameter were based on the empirical formula $Y=aW^b$, where 'Y' is $t_{1/2}$, MRT, Cl, or $V_{ss}$, W the body weight and 'a' is an allometric coefficient (intercept) that is constant for a given drug. The exponential term, 'b', is a proportionality constant that describes the relationship between the pharmacokinetic parameter of interest and body weight. As results of the allometric analyses, the logarithms of $t_{1/2}$, MRT, Cl, and $V_{ss}$ were linearly related to the logarithms of body weight. Results of the current analyses could provide information on appropriate doses of roxithromycin for all species.
The purpose of this study is to develop the Generalized Depreciation Function (GDF) and Winfrey Depreciation Function (WDF) by reviewing methods for the depreciation accountings. The Depreciation Accounting Models (DAM), including straight-line model, declining-balance model, sum-of-the-year-digit model and sinking fund model presented in this paper, are reclassified into the charging pattern of increasing type, decreasing type and constant type. This paper also discusses the development of the GDFs based on convex type, concave type and constant type according to the demand pattern of product, frequency of plant usage, deterioration of time, relative inadequacy, Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) and Operating Expenditure (OPEX) of the Total Productive Maintenance (TPM). The WDFs presented in this paper depict a sudden degradation of plant performance by measuring the change of TPM activity at the midpoint of useful life of asset. The WDFs are classified into left-modal type, symmetrical type and right-modal type by varying the value of skewness and kurtosis. Moreover, three increasing patterns, such as convex, concave and linear types, are used in this paper to present the distinct identification of WFDs by using Instantaneous Depreciation Rate (IDR) in terms of Performance Depreciation Function (PDF) and Depreciation Density Function (DDF). In order to have better understanding of depreciation models, the numerical examples are used for evaluating the Net Operating Less Adjusted Tax (NOPLAT) and Economic Value Added (EVA). It is concluded that the depreciation models showing a large dispersion of EVA require the adjustment of NOPLAT and Invested Capital (IC) based on the objective cash basis and net operating activity for reducing the variation of EVA.
Conventional high-dose antipsychotics tend to result in more side effects, negative symptoms and dysphoria, and at the same time lower the cognitive function which is already impaired in most schizophrenics. Florid psychotic symptoms, negative symptoms and cognitive impairment greatly impede psychosocial performance and eventual reintegration into society. The reduction of symptom and the improvement of cognitive funtions and social skills are therefore central to the psychiatric rehabilitation process. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the dose-reduction effects of antipsychotics on chronic schizophrenics prescribed conventional high-dose antipsychotics more than 1,500mg equivalent of chlorpromazine. Fifty-one chronic schizophrenics who maintained high-dose antipsychotics for more than three months were randomly assigned to two groups : 20 patients comprised the dose-maintaining group and 31 patients made the dose-reduction group. Over a sixteen weekperiod Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale(PANSS), Extrapyramidal Symptom(EPS), Nurses' Observation Scale for Inpatient Evaluation(NOSIE-30), Continuous Performance Test(CPT), Quality of Life(QOL), and haloperidol/reduced haloperidol blood levels were determined at the base line and after 2, 4, 6, 8, 12, 16 weeks to evaluate the dose reduction effects of high-dose antipsychotics. The results were as follows : 1) Dose-reduction is highly effective in reducing positive and negative symptoms, and general psychopathology. Effects were most prominent at 8, 12, 16 weeks. Among the dose reduction group, positive symptoms in positive symptom group and negative symptoms in negative symptom group were more reduced. 2 Extrapyramidal symptoms showed no significant difference between two groups. But the EPS was reduced time after time within two groups. 3) Hit rates of Continuous Performance Test, which indicate attentional capacity, increased significantly after dose reduction. 4) Haloperidol and reduced haloperidol blood levels decreased until the 4th week, after which they were constant. 5) Total scores of Nurses' Observation Scale for Inpatient Evaluation were unchanged between the two groups. But among the indices, social interest and personal neatness were improved in the dose-reduction group and retardation was aggrevated in the dose-maintaining group. 6) Total quality of life scores were unchanged between two groups. But in the dose maintaining group, satisfaction scores of attention, autonomy, and interpersonal relationship decreased progressively. These findings suggest that the dose reduction of antipsychotics for chronic schizophrenics on programs of high-dose antipsychotics were effective. Dose reduction should therefore be implemanted to spread the rehabilitation and improve quality of life for chronic schizophrenics.

The purpose of this study was to analyze $^{68}Ga$-BAPEN dynamic PET image in rat myocardium to evaluate potential of this radiotracer as a perfusion imaging agent. Animal PET/CT scan was done in 9 rats during 120 minutes. Especially we synthesized $^{68}Ga$-BAPEN with kit which is simple and low cost method. PET images showed the in vivo dynamic distribution of $^{68}Ga$-BAPEN in the chest region of rats. Initially $^{68}Ga$-BAPEN PET images showed aorta and liver activities and a few minutes later, $^{68}Ga$-BAPEN moved to myocardium. Regions of interest were drawn on myocardium, liver, lung and blood pool. Time-activity curves showed significant uptake of $^{68}Ga$-BAPEN in myocardium. The contrast ratios of myocardial to blood pool, lung and liver at 60 minutes after injection were 1.66, 2.82 and 0.60. To estimate accurate kinetic parameters, 60 minutes after injection was required to PET scan as myocardium image contrast ratios reached to constant values. As a result, $^{68}Ga$-BAPEN would be suitable radiotracer for PET which can applied to diagnosis of myocardial perfusion diseases after further preclinical and clinical investigations.
