The purpose of this paper is to analyse the current status of reference education and to suggest directions for reference education in America and in Korea. For this purpose, the historical developments of reference services, and the names, problems and changes of reference courses are studied. The findings of the study can be summarized as follows; 1. The names of reference courses are various. In America, On-Line Services or Information Services are used in general, but in Korea, Reference Services are widely used. 2. In America, some library schools have only subject literature courses including business, law, music, etc. instead of basic reference courses. 3. Only one reference course is given by most schools in America and in Korea. However, a few schools which have no graduate courses provide two reference courses in Korea. 4. Analysis of textbooks used in reference courses shows that Reference Research by Joon-Shik Park, Reference Services and Reference Sources by Ock-Soon Noh are used in general. In addition, Introduction to Reference Work by Katz is used. 5. Lecture methods are generally used in teaching reference courses, but reviews of reference materials in library, class presentation, and case study method are also used. It is desirable that role playing and pathfinders' used in U.S. are introduced to our schools. 6. Analysis of library user instruction courses in Korea shows that 7 of 11 universities have the courses,, only one university teaches library user instruction as a part of reference courses, 3 universities don't. 7. Analysis of opinions about the directions for reference education shows that changes of reference courses names, expansion of courses contents, emphasis on communication technique, changes of teaching methods, proper combination of theory vs. practice, an increase in electronic reference education and training of subject specialist are needed.

The purpose of this study is to identify the problems of the e-book composition provided by the Comprehensive Reading Education Support System and to propose a service improvement plan related to the establishment of e-books in school libraries as educational resources based on practical issues and perceptions experienced by teacher-librarians. As a research method, the composition of the collection of 3,002 e-books supported by the Busan Comprehensive Reading Education Support System as a reading education platform of the school library was analyzed based on the Korean Decimal Classification. Based on this, two focus group interviews (FGI) were conducted with 4 elementary teacher-librarians and 5 secondary teacher-librarians working in Busan. The result of this study can be used as basic data to support students' reading activities using e-books as educational resources and to form an efficient e-book collection in school library.

The purpose of this study is to develop school library evaluation criteria by individual provincial office of education. Data was collected from several school library evaluation criteria. Based upon the data new evaluation criteria were developed in order to increase student academic achievement and apply various school environment. Evaluation items were divided into three items: library programs, school support, service. Evaluation methods were identified into survey method, statistics method, and applied standard statistics method. From three methods, applied standard statistics method was selected. This method included quantitative items and qualitative items. Quantitative items have two criteria from budget, three criteria from collection, and three criteria from use. Qualitative items have two criteria: collection and book usage.

1. Library practice education in Korea is in the form of field experience, that is, Practicum, which is one type of field experience. 2. The practicum is a short-term work experience guided by the academic institutions. (2 to 6 weeks of full time employment in a library, or one to two semesters of approximately 10 to 12 hours weekly) 3. Field work is largely accepted as a required subject. 4. Field work is usually carried out during the first semester of senior year. (or of sophomore year in junior college) 5. Libraries in other universities (or in other institutions) can beused for a student's field work. But the current tendency is to use his or her own university's library. 6. Most universities give one credit for 2 weeks' field work. 7. The method of evaluation is strict: A or 'excellent' (above 90), B or 'good' (above 80), C or 'fair' (above 70), D or 'bad' (above 60). 8. The expense of field work is usually included in the tuition fees. However, some think that an additional fees should be collected in the case of special practice. 9. Respondents to my survey say that the field experience is necessary so that professional librarians can connect theory and practice. 10. They also indicate that there are some problems in library practice education: administrative difficulties in the department chairman's office, the burden on professors in the library being used, and the limited number of libraries in which the field work is practicable. 11. The Department of Library Science is responsible primarily for providing faculty supervision over the students, and secondarily for the preparation of evaluation cards and field work reports. 12. Most of the faculty respondents use evaluation cards for the field work, some of which serve as grade sheets, some as field work diaries, and some as field work reports.

E-Learning is a modern main teaching method starting from the concept of remote education. This research is aimed for proposing cyber lecture library system and designing a cyber lecture component that becomes a basis for e-Learning system Cyber lecture library is a storage system of cyber lectures that can supply high quality data to the needed developers. Component consists of 5 categories and those are text voice, image, animation, and flash. By using this system the developers can save the necessary time and effort in education development. This system also helps students. The students can access various lecture data on a given subject and select the best fit for them.

Some academic libraries have paper writing education as part of information literacy education. Paper writing education includes the following contents; choice of subject, information type and information location, information retrieval. citation and bibliography writing, plagiarism type and(a front) cover table of contents writing. This study investigated paper writing education of the academic libraries that have it. Upon investigation, the academic libraries put a high importance on information type, location and retrieval. On the other hand, they lacked of the education on citation and bibliography writing, especially plagiarism. And some of the academic libraries had not the education on a choice of subject and(a front) cover a table of contents writing. Improvement of teaching method was required. This study finding will give effective material to the academic libraries having education and will have education.

1. Only 6 libraries(23.1%) among 26 surveyed libraries have a person or part in charge of continuing education. It means that the method to select education program and education object is systemless. The 19 libraries (73.1%) encourage continuing education of librarian. 2. Compared with the group who didn't receive a formal education, the group who received have a high degree in the grade of confidence, self-satisfaction and ability for job in Internet education case. And the group that received a formal education have also a high degree in the grade of ability for job in OA education case. Confidence, self-satisfaction for job in the carreer is significantly different according to the formal education in Internet education case and OA education case. Confidence, self-satisfaction and ability for Sob in the scholarship are significantly different according to the formal education in internet and computer OA education case 3. Compared with the group that didn't receive periodical education the group that received periodical education have a high degree in the grade of confidence, self-satisfaction for Job in internet education case. Confidence, self-satisfaction and ability for job in the carreer are significantly different according to the periodical education in OA education case. Confidence, self-satisfaction and ability for businessin in the scholarship are significantly different according to the periodical education in internet and OA education case. 4. Compared with the group that didn't receive self-education the group that received self-education have a high degree in the grade of confidence, self-satisfaction and ability for job in internet and OA education case. Confidence, self-satisfaction and ability for Job in the carreer are significantly different according to the self education in internet and OA education case. Confidence, self-satisfaction and ability for Job in the scholarship are significantly different according to the self-education in internet and OA education case.

Libraries' functions include not only being a treasure house for cultural heritage and cultural development but also comprehensive functions such as lifelong learning and human resources development. At the present time, the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development(MOE) has legal infrastructure and leadership which can develop and manage the nation's overall human and intellectual resources unlike previous Ministry of Education. For library to evolve as a stronghold for developing human resources and lifelong education, library policies must be unified into MOE which can provide the needed leadership. With direct management of libraries by MOE, which is currently overseeing and coordinating the nation's human resources development policies, library policies can be implemented systematically, mutual cooperation between libraries will be easier, and the link between library policies and the national and regional human resources development policies can be made.

The purpose of this study is identify users satisfaction for an academic library in order to investigate problems in academic library management and to create library development strategies. This study, also, includes relative functions between academic education and academic libraries. Research method for this study is occupied a survey for undergraduate students in K University Results of the survey can be regarded as users needs and can used for fundamental data and an assessment measure in order to develop an academic library operation plan.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate current library cooperation system and to identify what fields should be cooperated with other libraries. A survey and group interviews are used for research method. The results show that only under 30% of respondents estimated the success of library cooperation system. The system needs to be changed. Online catalog and DB are evaluated as important fields, while the shared/cooperation acquisition is evaluated as less important field in current cooperation system. Also, education cooperation, the cooperation of education and culture programs, and advertisement cooperation are more necessary. The shared/cooperation acquisition is less necessary in library cooperation filed. The membership libraries of cooperation systems and library location are affected to responses as a factor. This study proposes two library cooperation systems: upload library cooperation system and download library cooperation system.
