정보봉사의 효율을 높이는 요인분석 (A Study on the Factors Increasing the Effectivness of Information Services -with Special Reference to Information Service Units within Research Institutes)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify what are the common characteristics which enable the information management offices of research institutes to provide information services with their companies in effective ways, and furthur, in other to clarify what factors helf the improvement of effectiveness of information services. I have made on-the-spot investigations for the confirmation of present conditions of information service units of research institutes, their statistic data, and their managerial state. I have restricted my research to 36 information service units, as research targets, which are located in Changwon, Choongchong, and Kyongin areas as the reason mentioned in the introduction, and from their research data they keep, I have classified the top 10 information service units as Group A which show the most frequent use or application frequency of research data per a researcher, where as the lowerest 10 information service units are classified as Group B by the same evaluation of application frequency of their data. Then, the result of the comparision between Group A which provide high information services in effective ways and Group B which provide low information services with poor management leads me to identify the following characteristics in terms of the analyses of utilization of the data they process: 1. Those information service units in Group A have more volumes of books and information data, and annual increasing rates of books and informations are higher than those of Group B. 2. The regulations of book circulation in Group A are prescribed for the benefits of users, and if a long-term loan is not permitted, they are allowed to borrow more books at a time than in Group B. 3. The proportion of librarians to researchers is high, the librarians' career is long and their professional education background (the rate of librarians who majored in library science and information) is high In Group A. 4. Most of the directors of information service units are those who majored library science and information, and for the most part, librarians are promoted to the directors of information service units in Group A. 5. The information service units are managed directly under the directors of research institutes in their organization in Group A. 6. The information service units offer an education for information utilization to researchers as one of their managerial programs, and the contents of education are diverse, rich and informative in Group A. 7. The kinds of informations are various in Group A such as, SDI, prompt reports of contents of new informations, circulation of newly published publications, translation service, information analyses, critical reviews, etc. 8. The information service units in Group A have joined various cooperative systems which are aimed at cooperation, co-ownership of resources and informations. These findings lead me to argue that the hypothesis suggested in the introduction of this thesis has been proved without exception.

  • 전북지역의 광역 대표도서관 건립계획의 일환으로 수행된 본 연구에서는 그 건립의 필요성과 도서관 3대 요소인 시설, 자료, 인력에 대한 기준과 근거를 제시하고 이에 따른 도 대표도서관의 모델을 제시하였다. 이를 위한 연구의 진행은 기존의 광역 대표도서관 사례를 분석하고, 관련 기준의 검토와 전북도의 환경적 현황을 분석한 결과를 토대로 하였으며, 대표도서관의 모델은 위치, 시설 및 업무조직을 중심으로 제시하였다.

  • As a part of the status report of all the libraries of Gyeong Buk Province, the libraries of the higher educational institutions in the province were first examined in this study. The following methods were employed for this investigation: 1) questionnaires were sent to the libraries to gather necessary data and 2) the library standards as set by the government were applied for the analysis of the data and other related statistical studies and reports were consulted. Eighteen libraries in the 22 higher educational institutions in the province were examined as of August 1974. For the convenience of the study, the 18 libraries were classified into the following four categories: four-year college library, two-year normal school library, two-year junior college library, and three-year nursing school library. Paul Buck contends that the library is the center of academic life and that the quality higher education is not possible without a quality library. This is so because all the research activities have to be supported by good library facilities. Moreover it is difficult to justify the raison d'etre of an academic community if there is no active research activities in it. If the proposition is accepted that the library plays one of the most important roles in research and that research is one of the most important aspects of an academic community, it cannot be helped but observe that the role the libraries in the province play today is irregular and is far from the educational ideals the higher educational institutions envisage. The present study revealed that there was not a single library in the province which could truly support the research and classroom activities of the higher educational institutions. The college and the normal school libraries, nonetheless, had some facilities to be analyzed. The nursing school and the junior college libraries unfortunately had virtually nothing. It is hoped on the basis of the present study that the libraries should reorganize themselves and look for new directions for active support of research activities.

전문사서 양성을 위한 국가직무능력표준(NCS) 기반의 문헌정보학 현장실습 교육과정 설계에 관한 연구 (A Study on National Competency Standards-based Curriculum Design of the Practical Training Courses in Library and Information Science)

  • 본 연구는 문헌정보학 전공 현장실습의 만족도 영향요인을 파악하고 현장실습교육 구성요인으로서 적합한 NCS 능력단위를 도출하여, 국가직무능력표준(NCS)과 연계된 문헌정보학 현장실습 교육과정 모델을 설계하고 NCS 기반의 문헌정보학 실습교육 내용의 기준 및 지침을 구체화하는 목적을 갖고 있다. 이를 위해 첫째, 국가직무능력표준(NCS)의 추진 현황 특히 문헌정보학 전공분야 NCS 현황을 분석하였고, 둘째, 문헌정보학 전공학생의 현장실습 만족도 조사를 통해 현장실습의 영향요인을 도출하였고, 실습기관인 도서관 현장에서의 NCS와 연계된 현장실습 구성요인의 중요도 및 활용도 평가를 진행하였으며, 셋째, 포커스 그룹 인터뷰 조사결과 등을 통해 국가직무능력표준(NCS)이 실제 도서관 현장의 업무와 적절하게 부합되는 방향으로 NCS와 연계된 문헌정보학 실습교육과정 모델을 설계하였고, 넷째, NCS를 기반으로 문헌정보학 실습교육 내용의 기준 및 지침을 구체화하여 현장실습 실습생에게 요구되는 현장실습 교육지침서를 제안하였다.

라이브러리 2.0에 대한 이용자 인식 및 요구사항에 관한 실증적 연구 (Empirical Research to Understand the User Perception and Requirement of Library 2.0)

  • 본 연구에서는 학술정보서비스 이용자들의 라이브러리 2.0에 대한 인식 및 요구사항을 설문을 통해 조사하였다. 이를 위해 학술정보서비스 이용자를 대상으로 웹 설문조사를 실시하였다. 라이브러리 2.0과 관련하여 웹2.0 기술 및 서비스에 대한 인식과 이용경험을 파악하고, 라이브러리 2.0 개념을 적용한 정보 서비스에 대한 요구사항을 조사하였다. 연구 결과 이용자들은 일반적으로 논의되는 웹2.0 기술을 적용한 라이브러리 2.0 서비스보다, 관심분야의 최신 정보 수신, 정보전문가에 의한 콘텐츠 및 서비스, 구글 스칼라와 같은 논문 인용정보 제공 등 전문적인 서비스를 필요로 하는 것으로 나타났다.

Journal Publishing and Authorship in Library and Information Science by Early Career Researchers in South Korea

  • This study explored journal publishing and authorship by South Korean early career researchers (ECRs) in the field of library and information science (LIS). This research analyzed relevant journal publication data and conducted interviews to obtain information on the experiences and opinions of ECRs. Results indicated that South Korean ECRs in LIS were highly productive. This was evidenced by their annual publishing rate of 2.04 articles per person. In addition, Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) publications were produced at an annual average of 0.26 articles per person, while the quartile ratings for SSCI journal publications were also relatively high. However, unlike the trends seen in other academic fields, their collaborative research efforts were not considered very high because such efforts did not correspond to half their total publications. ECRs often participate as lead or corresponding authors despite being new researchers. ECRs are publishing first in the journals approved by their universities. These researchers cannot receive proper credit if the journal was not approved in this manner. ECRs are particularly disadvantaged when publishing in international journals corresponding to specific areas that are not on the SSCI list. By examining the journal publishing and authorship efforts of ECRs, this study discovered a variety of difficulties that should be addressed. For example, South Korean universities do not currently have cooperative research guidelines to solve authorship problems. The results from this study can serve as a basis to establish academic publishing and authorship policies while promoting scholarly communication in LIS and other scientific fields.

학술연구정보 이용자에 관한 연구: 정보요구, 정보이용행태, 정보활용능력을 중심으로 (A Study on Academic Library User's Information Literacy)

  • 본 논문은 국내 대학도서관 학술연구정보 이용자들을 그들의 정보요구, 정보이용행태, 정보활용능력을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 이용자들은 도서관 이용에 관한 기본적인 안내정보를 가장 많이 필요로 하고 있으나 대학의 온라인이나 오프라인 도서관시스템은 기본정보제공이 불충분한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 이용자들은 학술연구정보에 대한 주제탐색의 요구를 가지고 있으나 이를 만족시킬 만한 탐색지식이나 정보원에 관한 정보가 부족한 상태인 것으로 드러났다. 이용자의 학술연구정보 활용능력은 저조한 편이며 특히 기사검색이나 원문검색과 같은 고급학술연구정보 활용능력은 극히 낮은 수준에 머물렀다. 대학도서관의 안내정보시스템과 사용자 인터페이스의 개선이 요망되며 피상적인 이용자교육을 지양한 고급의 학술연구정보를 활용할 수 있는 이용자교육이 요청된다.

공공도서관 아동교육프로그램의 사서역할 모델설계 및 사례분석 (Role of Librarian in Child Education Programs of Public Library: Model Building and Assessment through Case Analysis)

  • 도서관의 사회적 역할이 자료보존과 자료제공 기능에서 교육적 기능과 지역공동체형성의 기능으로 옮겨가고 있다. 이에 따라 사서의 역할에서 사회 교육적 기능이 중요해지고 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 배경에서 도서관 아동교육프로그램에서 아동의 흥미를 제고시키고 주체적 학습자가 되도록 하는데 유용하다고 판단된 구성주의 교수학습관점에서 도서관 아동교육프로그램의 교육자모델을 설계하였다. 교육자의 역할은 모델링(modeling), 코칭(coaching), 스케폴딩(scaffolding)으로 구성하였다. 이러한 모델에 기초하여 서울과 수도권 소재 5개의 도서관 아동교육프로그램 사례를 관찰 조사하였다. 이들 사례에 대해 교육적 관점에서 공공도서관의 아동교육프로그램의 시사점을 도출하고자 하였다.

  • 필자들은 왜 지금 학교도서관을 이야기해야 하며, 학교도서관을 이야기하는 주체는 누구인지, 그리고 어떻게 학교도서관을 이야기해야 하는지 설명한다. 필자들의 강조 점은 우리 현장에서 건져 올리는 논제, 우리 현장의 현 단계가 요구하는 연구방법, 그리고 논제와 연구방법에 걸맞는 유연한 글쓰기로 모아진다.

Henry Fayol's 14 Principles of Management: Implications for Libraries and Information Centres

  • This paper focuses generally on the ‘fourteen principles of management’ by Henri Fayol. However, it specifically analyses their application to and implications for libraries and information centres. An extensive review of published works on management generally, and library management in particular, was conducted. This yielded vital insights on the original meaning and later modifications of these principles, as well as their application in the management of various organisations. Consequently, the strengths and weaknesses of these principles were examined to determine their suitability in libraries and information centres. Inferences, illustrations, and examples were drawn from both developed and developing countries which gives the paper a global perspective. Based on available literature, it was concluded that Fayol’s principles of management are as relevant to libraries as they are in other organisations. The paper, therefore, recommends that in addition to modifying some aspects to make these principles more responsive to the peculiar needs of libraries, further research should be undertaken to expand the breadth of these principles and ascertain their impacts on the management of information organisations.
