The purpose of this study is to bring out the most reasonable and feasible evaluation methods of research library collection in Korea. At the very outset, writer tried to define the purpose and the necessity of collection evaluation. Writer described a collection evaluation is to gain the data for decision making on selection policy, weeding and storage project, and explained it is one of the procedures of a collection development system operation of being explained as repeated three procedures through a collection development plan, an implimentation of the set plan(selection process) and a collection evaluation. Writer also pointed out the fact many libraries in Korea are apt to by pass or overlook this important process. Writer then defined the criteria of a collection evaluation as the measurement of the proportion of library holding's capability to meet users' demands and that of the degree of total collection's utilization. Writer introduced and analysed seven existing collection evaluation methods and concluded the method by a survey of users' needs and opinion and the method by a circulation survey are the most feasible and reasonable methods that can be applied. Writer also added that using above two evaluation methods together can enhance the effectiveness of collection evaluation.

The present survey aimed at analyzing factors influencing the development of the university library collection, with the special reference to the case of the Education Collection of the Pusan National University Library. For this, the present researchers have identified two areas of influencing factors, i.e.., library factors and user factors. Library factors included collection development policy, manpower, materials received as gift and budget. User factors included faculty and students. For analyzing the factors, the present researchers have relied on qualitative research techniques, using heavily documents produced within the case library, interviews librarians, faculty and students, and observation.

The purpose of this study is to develop detailed items and elements to be included in a national guideline for school library collection which can be used as a basis and standard for establishing collection management policies in individual school libraries. For this purpose, materials related to the collection management of school library were analyzed with the international and national level. As a result, the international materials emphasizes accessibility and resource sharing of digital materials besides quantitative standards of the library collection and deal with the process for the objection collection. In this study, items to be included in the national guidelines are divided into general principles of collection management and collection management guidelines, and elements of the each item are suggested. And proposed systematic bases for efficient application of the national guidelines to school libraries.

The goal of this study is to propose the plan for strengthening organizational competences related to the collection development function of the national library. For this goal, author analyzed and compared the organizational characteristics of departments for legal deposit in national libraries of nine developed countries, derived the limitations and weaknesses of legal tasks, policy documents, and collection development tasks by organizational units of the National library of Korea. Based on these results, author suggested the centralization of collection policy and legal deposit function, th name change and total restructuring of collection acquisition division, and its manpower reinforcement, etc.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the theme collection service in public library from the user's perspective. To this end, based on prior research, the effect elements of the theme collection were derived from the service use, librarian, and library level. A questionnaire survey was conducted on 294 users of A public library. The collection satisfaction of users who know the theme collection was higher than those who did not, and showed high recognition for the satisfaction with the use of new and unexpected books. In addition, it was found that the positive recognition tended to be high among users who have been using the library for a long time and frequently use the library service. Based on the users' perception and evaluation of the theme collection, the direction of development of the theme collection service was suggested in terms of collection development, collection use and information service, user-centered classification, and awareness improvement of libraries and librarians.

This study reports the result of the survey on collection management from 154 school libraries in Korea. The questionnaire is consisted of three section: state of collection, state of book use, and collection management system. Results reveal that (1) elementary schools and middle schools have many books for each student compared to the KLA's School Library Standards; (2) the component ratio of literature books is the biggest in school library collections; (3) the ratio of library book use is overwhelmingly higher in elementary schools than middle schools and high schools; (4) 64.6 percent of library books in the sample are never used during 2013-2015; (5) 74 percent of libraries have its own collection management document; (6) Almost all schools compose its own committee for library management, the committee plays an important roles in the communication among school members, collection development and promotion.

This study aims to quantitatively assess collection and circulation data of one small library in an area where multicultural users are concentrated and draw policy implications on improving multicultural services for public libraries. The Ansan Multicultural Small Library was selected for examining the library's collection and circulation usages from 2016 to 2022. The numbers of collection and circulation, collection turnover rates and use factors were calculated by year, language, and KDC subject. The result of this study presents the empirical evidence drawn from users' circulation usage, which can be a basis for leading to valid collection development and multicultural service policies.

This study was carried to analyze the current status of oral history collections of national libraries in foreign countries and to derive key factors to consider when building oral collections in National Library of Korea(NLK). The Library of Congress, the British Library, and the National Library of Australia regard oral records as a national heritage that should be passed down nationally and those have been utilized and preserved successfully. Based upon the analysis of the oral collections of these national libraries, several key elements - legislation, organization, collection policy, services, collection, education and collaboration, funding and sponsorship-to consider when building an oral history collection for the first time in the NLK were suggested.

Cloud collection, which is derived from cloud computing, is a framework that creates new value through library cooperative platform to preserve and manage libraries' duplicated collection. Due to E-book market vitalization and mass digitalization of retrospective print material, new library collection management paradigm has been expected that licensed based E-book service and management of shared print repository. This study discuss cloud collection concept which digital repository and Shared print repository are in complementary relations. And suggest cloud collection model can be applicable to Korean university libraries.

The social identities and role models of all public libraries originate from the historical and systematic development of analog collections and the high-quality digital contents. Therefore, collection development in public libraries should be treated the most important professional task. Based on these prerequisites, this paper analyzed the classical agendas of analog collection development and paradoxes of digital odyssey, and suggested the future policies and strategies of public library collection development in Korea.
