Integrated Level 1-Level 2 decommissioning probabilistic risk assessment for boiling water reactors

  • This article describes an integrated Level 1-Level 2 probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) methodology to evaluate the radiological risk during postulated accident scenarios initiated during the decommissioning phase of a typical Mark I containment boiling water reactor. The fuel damage scenarios include those initiated while the reactor is permanently shut down, defueled, and the spent fuel is located into the spent fuel storage pool. This article focuses on the integrated Level 1-Level 2 PRA aspects of the analysis, from the beginning of the accident to the radiological release into the environment. The integrated Level 1-Level 2 decommissioning PRA uses event trees and fault trees that assess the accident progression until and after fuel damage. Detailed deterministic severe accident analyses are performed to support the fault tree/event tree development and to provide source term information for the various pieces of the Level 1-Level 2 model. Source terms information is collected from accidents occurring in both the reactor pressure vessel and the spent fuel pool, including simultaneous accidents. The Level 1-Level 2 PRA model evaluates the temporal and physical changes in plant conditions including consideration of major uncertainties. The goal of this article is to provide a methodology framework to perform a decommissioning Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA), and an application to a real case study is provided to show the use of the methodology. Results will be derived from the integrated Level 1-Level 2 decommissioning PSA event tree in terms of fuel damage frequency, large release frequency, and large early release frequency, including uncertainties.

A Study on the Classification Framework of Information Services (지역정보화과정에서의 정보서비스에 관한 연구-초고속망응용서비스의 분류체계를 중심으로-)

  • In order to provide effective information services in a province, we should first select vendors who enable to meet end-users' needs and develop information services for the sake of end-users. Cases, policies, technological and legislative issues in information services have been researched well. But no research has been done on potential information services in the future and their classification. In this study, based on literature survey, future information services are gathered, described, and classified with respect to the needs of end-users, and finally a framework for the classification of information services is developed. This framework can be used as a criterion to select, with a priority, information services to be provided in province through the information super highway. The framework will contribute to accomplishing the effective use of information resources in the province, and eventually balancing the level of information utilization between provinces.

Effects of Provision of Concrete Information about Patient-controlled Analgesia in Hysterectomy Patients (자궁 적출 수술 환자를 대상으로 한 통증 자가 조절기 관련 구체적 정보 제공의 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was to investigate the effects of the provision of concrete information about patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) in hysterectomy patients. Methods: Study design was a nonequivalent control group non-synchronized pre- and post-test design. Sixty subjects participated were assigned to experimental group (30 patients) or control group (30 patients) at one university hospital. Concrete information about PCA was composed of three sections: explanation with a leaflet, practice of using PCA, and question and answer session. Results: The experimental group who received concrete information about PCA before surgery had statistically higher knowledge level about PCA, more positive attitude toward pain control analgesia, a lower pain score, and a higher satisfaction level of the use of PCA post-surgery compared to the control group who received general information before surgery. Conclusion: Provision of concrete information about PCA was an effective nursing intervention that reduced post-operative pain for patients and increased their satisfaction with using PCA. It is recommended that concrete information about PCA be provided by nurses to promote the use of PCA and consequently reduce patient's pain post-surgery.

Indicators of Customer Value for the National Technology Information Service

  • Knowledge, technology and information have special characteristics different from the ones of normal consumer products and services. Especially the value of such information varies according to external elements such as the provided environment, their method of utilization, and the level and purpose, etc. of the user. In this study, the indicators of information customer value are developed and measured to enhance customer-based values with efforts for making new customers and maintaining existing customers. The result is as follows: 14 customer value indicators were developed. Among the indicators, value gained versus effort, reduced time for research idea investigation and savings in time searching for equipment, and tools and materials got the highest score, which means that time-saving effects were the most important. The field study of this paper was conducted from information users in the field of national R&D, and thus future studies could be conducted in various industries in many countries to attain generalized results.

  • According to the 2015 revised curriculum, the software education was provided to elementary school education in Korea. In Korea, information education became a necessary education. However, in Korea elementary school, information education is still not operated as an independent subject. This study examines the information education curriculum and information education textbook contents at the national level of Korea and China. The implications of this study can help establish the direction of information education in Korea.

  • As the ubiquitous computing technology (uT) is prevailing, applying uT is more likely to transform the legacy way of doing business to a new way with the goals of ubiquitous computing: strategic use of information resources by using them everywhere, every time, with any devices for any services. These opportunities naturally require the provision to assess the degree of the transformation from the legacy IT-based e-business to the uT-based business. However, research about assessing the degree of u-transformation has been still very few. Moreover, even deciding what is ubiquitous or not is obscure. Hence, this paper aims to propose the methodology for assessing the degree of u-transformation oriented by the teleology of ubiquitous service, which intends to fully make use of uT in creating new business of next generation. Through the literature review, we developed the methodology to check whether the provided service is ubiquitous or not based on the capabilities that technologies have. and then, the methodology developed to assess the technical requirements that the uT should have when the transformation is considered through the focus group interview based on the literature review of the capability. A two-layered approach is introduced to assess not only the level of ubiquity but also the degree of u-transformation.

Research Trends Analysis of Information Security using Text Mining (텍스트마이닝을 이용한 정보보호 연구동향 분석)

  • With the development of IT technology, various services such as artificial intelligence and autonomous vehicles are being introduced, and many changes are taking place in our lives. However, if secure security is not provided, it will cause many risks, so the information security becomes more important. In this paper, we analyzed the research trends of main themes of information security over time. In order to conduct the research, 'Information Security' was searched in the Web of Science database. Using the abstracts of theses published from 1991 to 2016, we derived main research topics through topic modeling and time series regression analysis. The topic modeling results showed that the research topics were Information technology, system access, attack, threat, risk management, network type, security management, security awareness, certification level, information protection organization, security policy, access control, personal information, security investment, computing environment, investment cost, system structure, authentication method, user behavior, encryption. The time series regression results indicated that all the topics were hot topics.

Development of Prediction Model for Diabetes Using Machine Learning

  • The development of modern information technology has increased the amount of big data about patients' information and diseases. In this study, we developed a prediction model of diabetes using the health examination data provided by the public data portal in 2016. In addition, we graphically visualized diabetes incidence by sex, age, residence area, and income level. As a result, the incidence of diabetes was different in each residence area and income level, and the probability of accurately predicting male and female was about 65%. In addition, it can be confirmed that the influence of X on male and Y on female is highly to affect diabetes. This predictive model can be used to predict the high-risk patients and low-risk patients of diabetes and to alarm the serious patients, thereby dramatically improving the re-admission rate. Ultimately it will be possible to contribute to improve public health and reduce chronic disease management cost by continuous target selection and management.

  • The purpose of this study is to prove asymmetric Consumer Information on Electronic Commerce. For this purpose, 93 internet shopping-malls was analyzed into three contents of consumer information. Major findings are as follows : First, the overall level of consumer information contents through purchase process was very low. The reason is that most electronic consumers were dissatisfied with consumer information provided by internet shoppingmall. Second, consumer information of purchase-stage was insufficient for electronic consumer. Especially most shoppingmalls did not provide Use-information and comparing information. This implies electronic consumer can't meet their consumer information needs, so they cannot make rational decision. Third, consumers were faced with asymmetric Consumer Information problem on electronic commerce. So consumer education for electronic commerce is needed.

Measuring Service Quality in Academic Libraries (대학도서관 서비스 품질의 측정)

  • The purpose of this research is to evaluate the service quality measure and service quality level between one sample library and the other. Most typically, service quality is defined in terms of reducing the gap between customer expectations and the actual service provided. This research also focuses on gap reduction. Service quality concept was originally discussed in a commercial environment and may require some adaptation to the non-commercial environment of the academic library. A revised service quality measure that developed by P. J. Calvert and P. Hernon(1996) was used for this research. Results showed that service quality measure of this research was reliable(99 service quality items scale's Cronbach Alpha coefficient was 0.983) and was validated by correlation and factor analysis. Therefore service quality measure of this research will be applied positively for academic libraries. And this research showed that the service quality level of sample academic library was inferior to that of the others. The service quality of sample academic library should be improved to meet the customer's needs and expectations immediately.
