We report the fabrication of double clad fiber (DCF) and DCF coupler, suitable for fiber based imaging systems requiring the dual-channel transmission. Unlike the conventional DCF which uses silica for both cladding layers, the proposed DCF uses a low-index polymer for its outer-cladding layer coated over the conventional silica inner-cladding layer. The DCF is drawn with a conventional SMF preform but a low-index polymer coating is used for both jacket and outercladding of the fiber. To achieve the cladding mode coupling, a DCF coupler is fabricated by simply twisting two pieces of the proposed DCF after removing the polymer-coating at contacting regions. A cladding mode coupling ratio of 30% was achieved with a contact length of 16 cm. The proposed DCF and DCF coupler were employed in a composite optical coherence tomography (OCT) and fluorescence spectroscopy (FS) system, and both OCT images and FS signal from a plant tissue are measured simultaneously.

An experimental study was made of a large-scale vortical structure over a backward-facing step. The Reynolds number based on the step height was R $e_{H}$ =33,000. To recognize the large-scale vortex, three components of velocity were measured. The measurements were performed in the recirculation zone (x/H=4.0) and the reattachment zone(x/H=7.5). To measure the wall pressure fluctuations in a turbulent flow over a backward-facing step, a 32-channel microphone array was installed beneath the wall in the streamwise and spanwise directions. From the measured pressure field, the size of large-scale vortex was obtained. As a detailed study, a conditionally-averaging technique was employed to characterize the coherent structure of the large-scale vortex. To see the relationship between the flow field and the relevant spatial mode of the pressure field, the spatial box filtering (SBF) was examined. A cross-correlation between velocity and pressure fluctuations was performed to identify the structure and the length scale of the large-scale vortex.x.

The objective of this study is to help practicing engineers easily use the Clark model which is used for estimating the magnitude of design flood for small stream. A representative unit hydrograph was derived on the basis of the past rainfall-runoff data and unit hydrographs, and the storage coefficient of Clark model was estimated by using hydrograph recession analysis. Since the storage coefficient(K) is a dominating factor among the parameters of Clark method, a mulitple regression formula, which has the drainage area, main channel length and slope as parameters, is propsed to estimate K value of a basin where measured data are missing. The result of regression analysis showed that there is a correlation between a storage coefficient(K) and aforemetioned three parameters in homogenious basins. A regression formular for K was derived using these correlations in a basin of Han River, Nakdong River, Young River, Kum River and Sumjin River
The spectroscopy toolkit has been developed and tested. The toolkit consists of a CsI(Tl)/PIN diode detector, integrated electronics, and a multi.channel.analyzer and its size was 40 cm(width) by 20 cm(length) by 6 cm(high). It is compact, very portable and simpler and cheaper compared to the conventional spectroscopy system. The gamma energy resolutions of the toolkit were 7.9% for the 660 keV of $^{137}Cs$ and 4.9% for 1,332 keV of $^{60}Co$ respectively. The linearity for gamma energies was good. When the energy spectrum of a ceramic sample containing $^{232}Th$ was measured with the spectroscopy toolkit for 20 minutes, there were significant peaks of the heavy metal. These results show that the resolution of the spectroscopy toolkit is sufficient to accumulate a quality spectrum in a few minutes by using weak, encapsulated commercial sources. Furthermore a toolkit experiment that how to measure energy spectra using the toolkit, and how to identify specific isotopes in a pottery piece, could be widely adopted for education and even for more sophisticated and higher level experiments.

The 1/f noise spectrum of short-circuited output drain current due to the Shockley-Read-Hal] recombination centers with a single lifetime in homogeneous nondegenerate MOS-field effcte transtors with n-type channel is calculated under the assumptions that the quasi-Fermi level for the carriers in each energy band can not be defined if we include the fluctuation for time varying quantities. and so 1/f noise is a majority carrier effect. Under these assumptions the derived 1/f noise in this paper show some essential features of the 1/f noise in MOS-field effect transistors. That is, it has no lowfrequency plateau and is proportionnal to the channel cross area A and to the driain bias voltage Vd and inversely proportional to the channel length L3 in MOS field effect transistors. This model can explain the discrepancy between the transition frequency of the noise spectrum from 1/f- response to 1/f2 and the frequency corresponding to the relaxation time related to the surface centers in p-n junction diodes. In this paper the results show that the functional form of noise spectrum is greatly influenced by the functional forms of the electron capture probability cn (E) and the relaxation time r (E) for scattering and the case of lattice scattering show to be responsible for the 4 noise in MOS fold effect transistors. So we canconclude that the source of 1/f noise is due to lattice scattering.

Series of recent k-.epsilon. model modification have been carried out with the aid of DNS data to include the effect of near wall. Though these methods opened new way of turbulence modelings, newly developed turbulence models of its kind had yet shortcomings in prediction for the turbulent flows with various Reynolds numbers and various geometric conditions. As a remedy for these shortcomings, a new k-.epsilon. model proposed here by improving the dissipation rate equation and the damping function for eddy viscosity model. The new dissipation rate equation was modeled based on the energy spectrum and magnitude analysis. The damping function for eddy viscosity was also formulated on the ground of distribution of dissipation rate length scales near a wall and the DNS data. The new k-.epsilon. model was applied to the fully developed turbulent flows in a channel and a pipe with a wide range of Reynolds numbers. Prediction results showed that the present model represents properly the turbulence properties in all turbulent regions over a wide range of Reynolds numbers.

In order to assess the effects of ecosystem and landscape in around spur dikes, this study had carried out monitoring on the changes of ecosystem and morphologic characteristics in around spur dikes that had been settled in bend of Youngcheon River. The study site was a short reach with length 190m, spur dikes were installed in March, 2008. Monitoring of the site had been started in May 2008 and had been completed September 2011. The results are as follow ; 1) Spur dikes that were installed for channel stabilization are performing effectively hydraulic functions at flooding time. 2) Spur dikes that were installed in water colliding front of river bend brought about sediment deposition between those and formed pools around front of those. Therefore, it was verified to create various physical characteristics in the aspect of channel topography and flow consequently. 3) The survey results that was carried out in October 2008 showed to emerge 25 species of plant, 9 species of fish and 17 species of benthic macroinvertebrates, but the survey results in October 2010 showed to emerge 74 species of plant, 12 species of fish and 19 species of benthic macroinvertebrates. In particular, plant species that emerged in 2011 increased about three times more than those in 2008.

Gain-guided broad-area single quantum well separate confinement heterostructure diode lasers have been fabricated from structures grown by metal organic vapor phase epitaxy. The active layer of the epi-structure is InGaAs emitting 962-965nm and the guiding layer GaAs. The channel width is fixed to 150${\mu}$m and the cavity length varys within the range of 300~800${\mu}$m. For uncoated LD's, the output power of 0.7W has been obtaained at a pulsed current level of 2A, which results about 60% external quantum efficiency. The threshold current density is 200A/cm$^{2}$ for the cavity lengths of 800.mu.m LD's. The stain effect upon the transparent current density has been observed. The internal quantum efficiency is expected to be 88% and the internal loss to be 18$cm^{-1}$. The beam divergence has been measured to be 7$^{\circ}$to lateral and 40$^{\circ}$to transverse direction. finally, 1.2W continuous-wave output power has been obtained at a current level of 2A for AR/HR coated LD's die-bonded on Cu heat-sink and cooled by TEC.

The test of comparing liquid flow calibration system (approved by KOLAS) for accuracy and structure change test was performed in the test bed in order to evaluate the typical characteristics of the electromagnetic flow meters and parshall flume that are generally used in the water discharging facilities. The results of the accuracy comparing test with liquid flow calibration system showed the error of less than 2%. Pharshall plume got error up to -8.3% (low flow) from the flow rate test, but less than 4% from the accumulated flow test because of offset error at high flow rate and low flow rate. Evaluation of structual change test was tested with only parshall flume using structure and it consisted of installation angle (parshall flume and level sensor) and position change. Installation angle, water level sensor angle and position changing test for parshall flume had errors of 3.1%~-9.2%, 0.4%~-5.6% and 0.2%~1.3% respectively. Especially, the error showed the largest increase when the water level sensor measured the point of decreased flow by the structure change. Therefore, error factors (change of straight pipe length, installation of obstacle or effect of foreign substances on water level sensor) that can often occur in the field should be derived and the research for optimized installation method should be carried out continuously.

The transient power characteristics of a PEM fuel cell stack was experimentally studied using a commercial 1.2kW PEM fuel cell ($Nexa^{TM}$ Power Module, Ballard Power System Inc.). The conditions in PEM fuel cell stack such as temperature and water content change rather slowly because of their large heat capacity and long channel length, which results in long transient time to converge to a steady state. The steady characteristics of the PEM fuel cell module was determined first, followed by the measurement of its transient characteristics upon stepwise and continuous load current changes. During the stepwise current change from 5A to 25A, the output voltage initially decreased below the steady voltage and then increased gradually. Similar behavior was also observed for the stepwise current change from 25A to 5A. This transient behavior is explained with reference to the evolution of the temperature and water content of the PEM fuel cell stack.
