Rhus verniciflua Extract Ingestion and Exercise Training on Blood Lipids and Insulin Resistance in Rats (옻나무 추출액 섭취와 운동훈련이 흰쥐의 혈중 지질 및 인슐린 저항성에 미치는 영향)

  • We investigated the effect of Rhus verniciflua Stokes extract ingestion with exercise training on plasma lipids and insulin resistance for 8 weeks. Forty SD (Sprague-Dawley) male rats were used as the experimental animals that were divided into CON (control), RVS (Rhus verniciflua Stokes), EXE (exercise training), and RVS-EXE (Rhus verniciflua Stokes with exercise training), respectively. Body weight gain in EXE (202%) and RVS-EXE (203%) was significantly lower than CON (253%) and RVS (239). Stored fats were significantly lower with RVS and/or exercise training. Blood lipids were enhanced in RVS and RVS-EXE compared to CON. Blood glucose was significantly high in CON compared to the other groups. Insulin and HOMA index has the same tendencies with glucose, however, the synergic effect was found in RVS-EXE. In conclusion, Rhus verniciflua Stokes extract ingestion with exercise training has the effect of lowering amount of stored fats, reducing blood lipids, and enhancing insulin resistance, therefore, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, obesity, and hyperlipidemia might be prevented.

  • Outbound market is a rapidly growing global industry, and has evolved into a 11 trillion won trade. A lot of recommender systems, which are based on collaborative and content filtering, target the existing purchase log or rely on studies based on similarity of products. These researches are not highly efficient as data was not obtained in advance, and acquiring the overwhelming amount of data has been relatively slow. The characteristics of an outbound product are that it should be purchased at least twice in a year, and its pricing should be in the higher category. Since the repetitive purchase of a product is rare for the outbound market, the old recommender system which profiles the existing customers is lacking, and has some limitations. Therefore, due to the scarcity of data, we suggest an improved customer-profiling method using web usage mining, algorithm of association rule, and rule-based algorithm, for faster recommender system of outbound product.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the changes of forest land use around Tae Kwan Ryoung region during 15 years, by using the aerial photographs in 1965 and 1980 respectively. the results are summarized as follows: 1) The areas of forest land and farm land has been decreased, while the grass land increased as 3 times. It is because that the site of Tae Kwan ryoung region was suitable for livestock breeding and the wide grass lands were developed. 2) With a view to forest land use, it is desirable to convert the forest land into grass land and farm Land. But it should be considered the fact that most of the farm land was converted into forest land, in the utilization of forest land in future. 3) Due to the development of industries such as livestock breeding and leisure industry, there is a great increase in the dwelling houses, stalls, public building and habitants in this region. Therefore, in future we should establish the plans of forest land use synthetically and efficiently, considering the promotion of indirect utilities such as soil conservation, recreation and environmental protection as well as timber production.

  • In this study, electrode bonding technology needed for high density of rechargeable battery is studied, which is recently researched for electric vehicle, the small leisure vessel. For the alternative overcoming the limit of stacking amount able to be stacked by conventional ultrasonic welding, the low temperature bonding method, eligible for minimum of degeneration of chemical activator on the electrode surface which is generated by thermal effect as well as the increase of conductivity and tension strength caused by electrode bonding using filler metal, not using conventional direct heating on the electrode material method, is studied. Specifically to say, recently used more generally the ultrasonic welding and spot welding method are not usable for satisfying stable electric conductivity and bonding strength when much electrode is stacking bonded. If the electrical power is unreasonably increased for the welding, due to the effect of welding temperature, deformation of electrode and activating material degeneration are caused, and after the last packaging, decline of electrical output and generating heat cause to reduce stability of battery. Therefore, in this study, induction heating system bonding method using high frequency heating and differentiated electrode method using filler metal pre-treatment of hot dipping are introduced.

  • The Purpose of This study is amid competition, High-quality human resources in food service industry make a lot of efforts. Especially, Work and Life Balance(WLB) is a considerable factor when modern workers decide and maintain the workplace and also it could be supposed as one strategic method that corporations could attract and maintain talented people. This study built a exploratory model that there is causal relationship of WLB(work and life balance) to employee's organizational commitment. Additionally this study examine the Moderating Effect of perceived value of work between WLB(work and life balance) and organizational commitment. This study utilized total 217 responses from workers of food service industrial employees and as analysis methods, it used descriptive statistic analysis, correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis, and hierarchical analysis. Results of analysis are as follows. First this study found that the work-life balance could give significant effects to the organizational commitment. work-growth balance and work-leisure balance has positive significance effect with the organizational commitment but work-family balance was not statistically significant. Second, The significance of this study indicates that perceived value of work plays a role as moderating variable influencing the relationship between work and growth balance and employee organizational commitment. Lastly, this study suggested the implication of the result, the limitation and the direction of future study. The results of this study provide suggestion to the company.

Korea Coast Guard's Human Biological Materials Storage Project for Identifying Bodies Recovered from the Sea: A Model Suggestion (해양변사자 신원확인을 위한 해양경찰의 인체유래물 보관사업 모델제시)

  • The ocean is a harsh environment and Korea Coast Guard officers often face the threat of death or going missing in the line of duty. In order to promptly identify unknown bodies during mishaps, Korea Coast Guard Research Center has established an identification system using the DNA of its officers. This collected DNA can also be entombed in National Cemeteries when the remains are not recovered. The storage, disposal and quality control of the materials are overseen by the Governing Committee according to the Enforcement Rules for the Human Biological Materials Storage Project for the Identification of Officers Killed or Gone Missing in Action. Approximately 700 bodies are found per year along the Korean coast. An alternative method should be put in place for when identification through fingerprints and teeth are not applicable due to severe decomposition or partial recovery. We believe it would greatly contribute to helping identify the unknown bodies if the storage project could expand its data to include marine industry workers, relevant researchers and those involved in marine leisure activities.

Ursolic acid supplementation decreases markers of skeletal muscle damage during resistance training in resistance-trained men: a pilot study

  • Ursolic acid (UA) supplementation was previously shown to improve skeletal muscle function in resistance-trained men. This study aimed to determine, using the same experimental paradigm, whether UA also has beneficial effects on exercise-induced skeletal muscle damage markers including the levels of cortisol, B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP), myoglobin, creatine kinase (CK), creatine kinase-myocardial band (CK-MB), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in resistance-trained men. Sixteen healthy participants were randomly assigned to resistance training (RT) or RT+UA groups (n=8 per group). Participants were trained according to the RT program (60~80% of 1 repetition, 6 times/week), and the UA group was additionally given UA supplementation (450 mg/day) for 8 weeks. Blood samples were obtained before and after intervention, and cortisol, BNP, myoglobin, CK, CK-MB, and LDH levels were analyzed. Subjects who underwent RT alone showed no significant change in body composition and markers of skeletal muscle damage, whereas RT+UA group showed slightly decreased body weight and body fat percentage and slightly increased lean body mass, but without statistical significance. In addition, UA supplementation significantly decreased the BNP, CK, CK-MB, and LDH levels (p<0.05). In conclusion, UA supplementation alleviates increased skeletal muscle damage markers after RT. This finding provides evidence for a potential new therapy for resistance-trained men.

The New Urbanization Process and Changing Spatial Structure of Seoul (서울의 신도시화 과정과 공간구조의 변화)

  • This study is to consider economic, political, socio-cultural and environmental characteristics of the new urbanization process and its spatial structures and urban policy of Seoul in the 1990s. Some experimental findings which have been identified throughout this study can be summarized as follows. First of all, Seoul, the largest city in S.Korea has experienced a restructuring process of economy, which has been promoted by the development of producer services as well as knowledge- based or high tech industries. Secondly, the autonomy of Seoul has increased after the introduction of local self-government, with relatively higher self-management of local finance than other cities, strengthening the tendency of enterpreneurialism, empowering civil movements, and increasing the political participation of women. Thirdly, in the socio-cultural aspect, the material wants to gain a certain identity through consumption, using urban environments culturally, varying consuming attitudes and ways of leisure times in relation with the rapid development of transportation and information communication. Fourthly, in the environmental aspect, Seoul has tried to introduce the concept of sustainable development in terms of increasing wants on the quality of life, and to develop a pro-environmental eco-city with environmental rehabilitation, constructing green space and eco-park. Finally, in the spatial dimension, Seoul has shown a structuration of multi-centers, with highly spectacular urban landscapes and seemingly authentic urban planning. These results make us confirm that Seoul has been in the process of new urbanization which can be distinguished from the previous one.

  • Looking at the application examples related to RFID systems around the world, it is easy to find that RFID systems are introduced in various industries, such as retail and consumer goods sectors, financial and security sectors, automotive and transport sector, leisure and sports sector, logistics, and health-related fields. This is because they can get their operational efficiency and competitiveness by means of product's visibility and transparency of information through RFID systems. However, it is required that evaluation of effectiveness on introducing RFID systems should be performed to strengthen construction willingness of RFID systems before actual introduction of the RFID systems in the process. This activity affects to introduction of RFID systems in industry-wide and then, will be able to create a synergy effect such as national industrial competitiveness improvement. The purpose of this study is to offer rational method on effectiveness analysis before and after RFID based process. Accordingly, the proposed Choquet fuzzy integral-based model will be allowed rational analysis by integrating quantitative and qualitative analysis. Through the effectiveness analysis of C company's RFID based process using the proposed evaluation model, we could identify that RFID-based logistics process was more effective than existing process.

Effect of Fermented Anchovy Extracts on the N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine-Induced Mutagenicities (멸치젓갈추출물이 돌연변이 유발에 미치는 영향)

  • The effects of raw anchovy, salted raw anchovy (20% salt+anchovy), 6- and 12-month fermented anchovy (20% salt added) on the N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG)-induced mutagenicities were evaluated using Salmonella assay and the SOS chromotest. The methanol extracts from raw, salted and the fermented anchovy (FA) sample increased the revertants of Salmonella typhimurium TA100 at the level of $0.125{\sim}5\;mg/plate$ in Ames test. The salted raw anchovy extract induced the largest number of the revertants. All the FA extracts had comutagenic effect on the MNNG. Twelve-month FA juice exerted the lowest comutagenic activity among the FA samples. The comutagenicity of 12-month FA was due to the synergistic effect of salt and histidine which teem in FA. Thus the Ames test using histidine requiring mutant, S. typhimurium, is not appropriate to determine the mutagenicity of FA which is rich in histidine. In SOS chromotest using E coli, raw, salted and fermented anchovy extracts did not show any mutagenicity in the absence of MNNG. The raw and fermented anchovy samples blocked the SOS response of E. coli PQ37 induced by MNNG, while raw salted anchovy increased the SOS induction factor. Twelve-month FA juice showed higher antimutagenic effects than 6-month FA samples (both solid and liquid). The ripened (12-month) FA along with raw anchovy in the SOS chromotest exhibited antimutagenic activity.
