Areal Distribution Ratio and Characteristics of Constituent Rocks with Geologic Age and Rock Type by GIS in Gyeongnam-Ulsan-Busan Areas (GIS를 이용한 경남-울산-부산지역 구성암류의 지질시대별 및 암층별 분포율과 분포특성)

  • To get the geologic information data such as rock resources, industrial ground, development planning and so on, distribution ratios of constituent rocks with geologic age and rock type were obtained in Gyeongnam, Ulsan and Busan areas by ArcGIS 9.3 program, digital geologic and geomorphic maps of 1 : 250,000 scale. Geologic ages and rock types in the Gyeongnam area can be divided into 6 and 40, respectively. Their distribution ratios of the geologic ages are decreasing in the order of Cretaceous, Precambrian, Quaternary, Jurassic, Triassic and Tertiary. They show the wide ranges of 1.35-57.36%, and the former makes the most dominant ratio. Major rock types are 24 ones, all of which occupy the ratio of 94.58% and relatively narrow ranges of 1.15-13.64% in the area. Among them, andesite and andesitic tuff shows the more or less dominant ratio, and separately develops in the northeast, mid east and south parts of the area. In the Ulsan area, geologic ages and rock types can be divided into 3 and II, respectively. Their distribution ratios of the geologic ages are decreasing in the order of Cretaceous, Quaternary and Triassic. They show the very wide range of 6.90-79.21%, and the former makes the most prevailing ratio. Major rock types are 9 ones, which totally occupy the ratio of 98.63% and more or less wide ranges of 1.50-39.01% in the area. Among them, Jindong formation shows the most dominant ratio, and widely develops in the inner and eastern part of the area. In the Busan area, geologic ages and rock types can be divided into 3 and 10, respectively. Their distribution ratios of the geologic ages are decreasing in the order of Cretaceous, Quaternary and Tertiary. They show the wide ranges of 6.73-47.02%, and the two former makes the most dominant ratio of 88.03%. Major rock types are 6 ones, all of which occupy the ratio of 93.02% and relatively wide ranges of 4.07-47.02% in the area. Among them, alluvium forms the most dominant ratio, which mostly develops in the lower Nagdong River, West Nagdong River and Suyeong River.

  • To get the various data on geological information, distributional ratios and characteristics of constituent rocks with geologic ages and rock types were obtained by ArcGIS 10.1 program, digital geologic and geomorphic maps of 1:250,000 scale in Jeonnam and Gwangju areas. In the Jeonnam area, geologic ages can be largely divided into 7, in which their distribution ratios show decreasing trends in the order of Cretaceous, Precambrian, Jurassic, Quaternary, Age-unknown, Carbonifeorus-Triassic and Triassic, and the former fours make the most prevailing ratios of 94.80%. Rock types in the area can be assorted into 57 ones, in which major 7 ones occupy the dominant ratio of 71.68%. Among them, Kav (acidic volcanics+rhyolite and rhyolitic tuff) show much more distribution ratios than the others. It shows more aspects distributed in north, west, middle, east and south parts, especially in Sinan-Mogpo-Yeongam of west and Haenam of south parts in the area, respectively. On the other hand, geological ages in Gwangju area can be largely divided into 5, in which their distribution ratios show decreasing trends in the order of Jurassic, Quaternary, Cretaceous, Precambrian and Age-unknown, and the former fours occupy almost the whole ratio of 98.95%. Rock types in the area are 12 ones, in which major four ones make up the dominant value of 91.30%. Among them, Jurassic granites of the most dominant value are mostly occupied in the southwest-northeast part of the area. Next dominative Quaternary alluvium is mostly developed along the Yeongsan river, the Hwangryong river and their channel junction. And Yongdu and Donggye plains are well developed around the Yeongsan riverline, and channel junction of the Yeongsan and Hwangryong rivers in the area, respectively.

  • A method of measuring the current and voltage is suggested in the circuit of cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) which are driven at a high frequency of $50{\sim}100\;kHz$ and a high voltage of several kV. It is difficult to measure the current and voltage in the lamp circuit, because the impedance of the probe at high voltage side causes the leakage current and the variation of luminance. According to the analysis of equivalence circuit with the probe impedance and leakage current, the proper measuring method is to adjust the input DC voltage and to keep the specific luminance when the probe is installed at a high voltage circuit. The lamp current is detected with a current probe or a high frequency current meter at the ground side and the voltage is measured with a high voltage probe at the high voltage side of lamp. The lamp voltage($V_C$) is measured between the ballast capacitor and the lamp electrode, and the output voltage($V_I$) of inverter is measured between inverter output and ballast capacitor. As the phases of lamp voltage($V_C$) and current ($I_G$) are nearly the same values, the real power of lamp is the product of the lamp voltage($V_C$) by the lamp current($I_G$). The measured value of the phase difference between inverter output voltage($V_I$) and lamp current($I_G$) is appreciably deviated from the calculated value at $cos{\theta}=V_C/V_I$.

  • Compositional changes of the Korean chestnut (Castanea crenata) including Daebo, Tsukuba, Tanzawa and Okkwang were investigated in order to characterize them from different periods (immature, mature and storage period). Proximate compositions of mature cultivars were higher than that of the immature cultivars. Between minerals, K (263.0-420.6 mg/100 g) and P (45.8-69.6 mg/100 g) of Tanzawa were highest, and they gradually increased during storage. Tsukuba, in mature period, showed the highest contents of total essential amino acids and glutamic acids as savory amino acids. Major fatty acids were palmitic acid and linolenic acid in four cultivars. In addition, linoleic acids, as ${\omega}$-6 fatty acids, were increased during the storage period. Tanzawa, in the mature period, presented the highest levels of sucrose, however, tsukuba, in the storage period, showed relatively higher free sugar content than others. ${\beta}$-Carotene, as a provitamin A, of Tsukuba in the mature period was highly detected among them, and vitamin C of Tsukuba and Tanzawa was more plentiful than others.

  • Browning of ascidian, Halocynthia roretzi, meat occurres very rapidly when skinned off or cut during processing and it resulted the quality loss of fresh frozen, dehydrated or fermented products. In this study, the causes of color development and prevention of browning were experimented. The browning of ascidian meat may be occurred enzymatically by a tyrosinase contained in meat and viscera which acted specifically on L-tyrosine as a substrate rather than on catechol. Activity of the enzyme in viscera was three times higher than in meat. The optimum pH and temperature on the tyrosinase activity of crude enzyme obtained from ascidian was 6.0 and $30{\sim}35^{\circ}C$, respectively. The enzyme was inactivated heating at $80^{\circ}C$ for 3 minutes or $90{\sim}100^{\circ}C$ for 1 minute and it was inhibited by $0.1{\sim}0.5mM$ solutions at ascorbic acid, sodium hydrogen sulfite, cystein, citric acid, cyanide but only sodium hydrogen sulfite treatment was effective to retard such a high content of enzyme as in case of viscera. In practical use for processing of ascidian meat browning was retarded by dipping the viscera removed ascidian meat in 0.2M citric acid for 5 minutes or $0.2\%$ sodium hydrogen sulfite solution for 1 minute resulting in sulfur dioxide residue less than 100 ppm.

Effects on the Levels of Dietary Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) Produced from Bio-Diesel By-Products on the Production and Composition of Dairy Cow Milk (바이오디젤유 부산물로 제조한 conjugated linoleic acid(CLA)의 첨가 수준이 젖소의 산유량 및 유성분에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to determine the effects of increasing the dietary levels of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) which is produced from bio diesel by-products, on milk yield, milk composition, and blood metabolites of mid-lactating dairy cows. A total of 20 mid-lactating dairy cows ($631{\pm}25.0kg$) were assigned to one of four treatment groups and fed twice daily an equal amount of a basal diet ($NE_L$ 32 Mcal/d, CP 17%) contained 12kg/d of concentrate, 15kg/d of corn silage and 4kg/d of the hay mixture (tall fescue+orchard grass). Conjugated linoleic acid were fed for 2 weeks of adaptation periods and 4 weeks of collection periods at 0 (Control), 50 (T1), 100 (T2) and 150g/d (T3), respectively. By the increases of dietary CLA supplementation, milk yield and 4% fat corrected milk increased, whereas milk fat content decreased (p<0.05). The concentrations of stearic acid and oleic acid decreased with increasing dietary CLA supplementation, while the concentrations of total CLA increased (p<0.05). In conclusion, this study shown that the supplementation of dietary CLA manufactured from bio diesel by-products could improve milk yield and CLA concentrations of milk in mid-lactating dairy cows.

Effects of Distance and Difference of Ground Level Between Two Natural Ventilating Pig Houses on Their Ventilation (개방돈사 간의 이격거리와 높이차가 환기에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to evaluate effects of distance and difference of ground level between two natural ventilating pig houses on their ventilation by using simulation. Distance between two pig houses was 6 or 12 m. Difference of ground level between two pig houses was 0 or 2 m. Mean air velocities in summer and winter were designated to 1.3 and 1.1 m/s. Under the conditions of summer, air velocities in all the pig houses in south were about 0.75 m/s regardless of distance and difference of ground level between two pig houses and air velocities in the second pig houses in north were about 0.75 m/s at difference of ground level of 0m and about 0.0 m/s at difference of ground level of 2 m, respectively. Under the conditions of winter, air velocities in all the pig houses in south were about 0.15 m/s regardless of distance and difference of ground level between two pig houses and air velocities of the second pig houses in north were about 0.0 m/s at distance of 6 m and about 0.15 m/s at distance of 12 m, respectively. Therefore, it is suggested that the optimum distance and difference of ground level between two natural ventilating pig houses might be 12 m and 0 m.

Prevalence of Pathogenic Bacteria in Livestock Manure Compost and Organic Fertilizer (가축분퇴비와 유기질비료에서 병원성박테리아의 분포도 분석)

  • In recent years, there has been an increasing public concern about fecal contamination of water, air and agricultural produce by pathogens residing in organic fertilizers such as manure, compost and agricultural by-products. Efforts are now being made to control or eliminate the pathogen populations at on-farm level. Development of efficient on-farm strategies to mitigate the potential risk posed by the pathogens requires data about how the pathogens prevail in livestock manure composts and organic fertilizers. Microbiological analysis of livestock manure composts and organic fertilizers obtained from 32 and 28 companies, respectively, were conducted to determine the total aerobic bacteria count, coliforms, Escherichia coli count and the prevalence of Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Salmonella spp., Escherichia coli O157:H7, Listeria monocytogenes, and Cronobacter sakazakii. The total aerobic bacteria counts in the livestock manure composts and organic fertilizers were in the range of 7 to $9log\;CFU\;g^{-1}$ and 4 to $6log\;CFU\;g^{-1}$, respectively. In the livestock manure composts, coliforms and E. coli were detected in samples obtained from 4 and 2 companies, respectively, in the range of 2 to $5log\;CFU\;g^{-1}$ and $2log\;CFU\;g^{-1}$. In the organic fertilizers, coliforms and E. coli were detected in samples obtained from 4 and 1 companies, respectively, in the range of 1 to $3log\;CFU\;g^{-1}$ and $2log\;CFU\;g^{-1}$. In 3 out 32 compost samples, B. cereus was detected, while other pathogens were not detected. In 28 organic fertilizers, no pathogens were detected. The complete composting process can result in the elimination of pathogens in livestock manure compost and organic fertilizer. The results of this study could help to formulate microbiological guidelines for the use of compost in environmental-friendly agriculture. This research provides information regarding microbiological quality of livestock manure compost and organic fertilizer.

Disease Reaction of a Japonica Rice, Keumo3, and Detection of a Linked DNA Marker to Leaf Blast Resistance ("금오3호"의 벼 잎도열병 저항성 특성 및 저항성 연관 마커 탐색)

  • Rice blast resistance is considered one of the most important traits in rice breeding and the disease, caused by Magnaporthe grisea Barr, has brought significant crop losses annually. Moreover, breakdown of resistance normally occurs in two to five years after cultivar release, thus a more durable resistance is needed for better control of this disease. We developed a new variety, Keumo3, which showed strong resistance to leaf blast. It was tested in 2003 to 2007 at fourteen blast nursery sites covering entire rice-growing regions of South Korea. It showed resistance reactions in 12 regions and moderate in 2 regions without showing susceptible reactions. Durability test by sequential planting method indicated that this variety had better resistance. Results showed that Keumo3 was incompatible against 19 blast isolates with the exception of KI101 by artificial inoculation. To understand the genetic control of blast resistance in rice cultivar Keumo3 and facilitate its utilization, recombinant inbred lines (RIL) consisting of 290 F5 lines derived from Akidagomachi/Keumo3 were analyzed and genotyped with Pizt InDel marker zt56591. The recombination value between the marker allele of zt56591 and bioassay data of blast nursery test was 1.1%. These results indicated that MAS can be applied in selecting breeding populations for blast resistance using zt56591 as DNA marker.

A New Early Maturing Rice Cultivar with High Quality and Good Taste, 'Geumyeong' (중산간지 적응 조숙 고식미 벼 신품종 '금영(金穎)')

  • 'Geumyoung' is a new early maturing rice cultivar developed from the cross between Sambaegbyeo and Iksan423/Sangju22 at Sangju Substation, NICS, RDA, Korea in 2009. It needs about 116 days from seedling to harvest in mid-mountainous areas. This cultivar has about 72 cm long culm and 19 cm long panicle, which are similar to Odaebyeo. It has higher panicle number per plant, medium to small grains and sometimes has a few awned spikelets. It shows tolerance to cold and resistance to blast but is susceptible to bacterial blight, virus diseases, and insects and pests. Milled rice of 'Geumyoeng' is translucent with non-glutinous endosperm and medium short grain. It has about 18.0% amylose and 6.6% protein content with good palatability of cooked rice. The milled rice yield of this cultivar was 5.53 MT/ha under standard fertilizer level of ordinary transplanting cultivation. 'Geumyong' would be adaptable for ordinary transplanting cultivation in the northern plains, and northern and southern mid-mountainous areas of South Korea.
