AraProdMatch: A Machine Learning Approach for Product Matching in E-Commerce

  • Recently, the growth of e-commerce in Saudi Arabia has been exponential, bringing new remarkable challenges. A naive approach for product matching and categorization is needed to help consumers choose the right store to purchase a product. This paper presents a machine learning approach for product matching that combines deep learning techniques with standard artificial neural networks (ANNs). Existing methods focused on product matching, whereas our model compares products based on unstructured descriptions. We evaluated our electronics dataset model from three business-to-consumer (B2C) online stores by putting the match products collectively in one dataset. The performance evaluation based on k-mean classifier prediction from three real-world online stores demonstrates that the proposed algorithm outperforms the benchmarked approach by 80% on average F1-measure.

Identifying the Effects of Repeated Tasks in an Apartment Construction Project Using Machine Learning Algorithm (기계적 학습의 알고리즘을 이용하여 아파트 공사에서 반복 공정의 효과 비교에 관한 연구)

  • Learning effect is an observation that the more times a task is performed, the less time is required to produce the same amount of outcomes. The construction industry heavily relies on repeated tasks where the learning effect is an important measure to be used. However, most construction durations are calculated and applied in real projects without considering the learning effects in each of the repeated activities. This paper applied the learning effect to the repeated activities in a small sized apartment construction project. The result showed that there was about 10 percent of difference in duration (one approach of the total duration with learning effects in 41 days while the other without learning effect in 36.5 days). To make the comparison between the two approaches, a large number of BIM based computer simulations were generated and useful patterns were recognized using machine learning algorithm named Decision Tree (See5). Machine learning is a data-driven approach for pattern recognition based on observational evidence.

  • DELVAUX is a genetics-based inductive learning system that learns a rule-set, which consists of Bayesian classification rules, from sets of examples for classification tasks. One problem that DELVAUX faces in the rule-set learning process is that, occasionally, the learning process ends with a local optimum without finding the best rule-set. Another problem is that, occasionally, the learning process ends with a rule-set that performs well for the training examples but not for the unknown testing examples. This paper describes efforts to alleviate these two problems centering on the N-version learning approach, in which multiple rule-sets are learning and a classification system is constructed with those learned rule-sets to improve the overall performance of a classification system. For the implementation of the N-version learning approach, we propose a decision-making scheme that can draw a decision using multiple rule-sets and a genetic algorithm approach to find a good combination of rule-sets from a set of learned rule-sets. We also present empirical results that evaluate the effect of the N-version learning approach in the DELVAUX learning environment.

Re-engineering Adult Education Programme-an Online Learning Curricular Perspective

  • The Web based multimedia programmes/courses are becoming widely available in recent years. Most of these courses focus on Behaviorist way of learning, which does not promote deep learning in any way. For Adults this approach further incapacitated, as it does not satisfy Andragogical needs. The search for Constructivist way of learning through the web applied to Indian conditions led to need for developing a curriculum development approach that would promote construction of knowledge through web based collaboration. This paper attempts to reengineer existing curriculum development processes and lays out a framework of‘Problem Based Online Learning (PBOL)’curriculum design. In this context, entire curriculum development life cycle is evolved and explained. This is a part of doctoral work (Ph.D), which is in progress and being undertaken by K.James Mathai, and guided of Dr.D.S.Karaulia.

Solving Survival Gridworld Problem Using Hybrid Policy Modified Q-Based Reinforcement

  • This paper explores a model-free value-based approach for solving survival gridworld problem. Survival gridworld problem opens up a challenge involving taking risks to gain better rewards. Classic value-based approach in model-free reinforcement learning assumes minimal risk decisions. The proposed method involves a hybrid on-policy and off-policy updates to experience roll-outs using a modified Q-based update equation that introduces a parametric linear rectifier and motivational discount. The significance of this approach is it allows model-free training of agents that take into account risk factors and motivated exploration to gain better path decisions. Experimentations suggest that the proposed method achieved better exploration and path selection resulting to higher episode scores than classic off-policy and on-policy Q-based updates.

  • Action learning motivates students to solve open-ended problems by 'developing skills through doing'. This paper reviews the concept of action learning and discusses the adoption of action learning approach to teach operations management at universities. It presents the design and delivery of an action-learning course at City University of Hong Kong. The course incorporates classroom lectures, tutorials and an action-learning workshop. The experience gained proves that action learning facilitates student participation and teamwork and provides a venue of accelerating learning where enables students to handle dynamic problem situations more effectively. The paper concludes that adopting action-learning approach can help lecturers to enhance quality teaching in operations management courses, and provide an alternate means of effective paradigm other than traditional classroom teaching and/or computer-based training at universities.

XSSClassifier: An Efficient XSS Attack Detection Approach Based on Machine Learning Classifier on SNSs

  • Social networking services (SNSs) such as Twitter, MySpace, and Facebook have become progressively significant with its billions of users. Still, alongside this increase is an increase in security threats such as cross-site scripting (XSS) threat. Recently, a few approaches have been proposed to detect an XSS attack on SNSs. Due to the certain recent features of SNSs webpages such as JavaScript and AJAX, however, the existing approaches are not efficient in combating XSS attack on SNSs. In this paper, we propose a machine learning-based approach to detecting XSS attack on SNSs. In our approach, the detection of XSS attack is performed based on three features: URLs, webpage, and SNSs. A dataset is prepared by collecting 1,000 SNSs webpages and extracting the features from these webpages. Ten different machine learning classifiers are used on a prepared dataset to classify webpages into two categories: XSS or non-XSS. To validate the efficiency of the proposed approach, we evaluated and compared it with other existing approaches. The evaluation results show that our approach attains better performance in the SNS environment, recording the highest accuracy of 0.972 and lowest false positive rate of 0.87.

Exploring process prediction based on deep learning: Focusing on dynamic recurrent neural networks (딥러닝 기반의 프로세스 예측에 관한 연구: 동적 순환신경망을 중심으로)

  • Purpose The purpose of this study is to predict future behaviors of business process. Specifically, this study tried to predict the last activities of process instances. It contributes to overcoming the limitations of existing approaches that they do not accurately reflect the actual behavior of business process and it requires a lot of effort and time every time they are applied to specific processes. Design/methodology/approach This study proposed a novel approach based using deep learning in the form of dynamic recurrent neural networks. To improve the accuracy of our prediction model based on the approach, we tried to adopt the latest techniques including new initialization functions(Xavier and He initializations). The proposed approach has been verified using real-life data of a domestic small and medium-sized business. Findings According to the experiment result, our approach achieves better prediction accuracy than the latest approach based on the static recurrent neural networks. It is also proved that much less effort and time are required to predict the behavior of business processes.

Designing a Project-based Service-Learning Course for Pre-dental Education: A Theoretical Exploration

  • This study is a theoretical exploration of project-based service-learning and its application in designing pre-dental curricula. As a response to the limitation of community service courses, service-learning has been implemented as pedagogy in higher education practices. Service-learning connects service and learning by engaging students in activities that address community needs with intentionally designed learning opportunities while adding value to and transforming both service and learning. Project-based service-learning is an extended and more active version of service-learning. Whereas service activities are arranged by instructors in the original service-learning, project-based service-learning provides students with opportunities for exploring problems and root causes on site and then devising and implementing solutions of their own using their talents and creativity. This study proposes a theoretical approach to project-based service-learning and suggests six design components, namely, related curriculum, reflection, reciprocity, service and community engagement, evaluation and recognition, and creative problem solving. Based on the components, 20 design strategies are formulated. The exploration is aimed to provide design guides for professionals attempting to implement project-based service-learning in higher education.

Proposing a New Approach for Detecting Malware Based on the Event Analysis Technique

  • The attack technique by the malware distribution form is a dangerous, difficult to detect and prevent attack method. Current malware detection studies and proposals are often based on two main methods: using sign sets and analyzing abnormal behaviors using machine learning or deep learning techniques. This paper will propose a method to detect malware on Endpoints based on Event IDs using deep learning. Event IDs are behaviors of malware tracked and collected on Endpoints' operating system kernel. The malware detection proposal based on Event IDs is a new research approach that has not been studied and proposed much. To achieve this purpose, this paper proposes to combine different data mining methods and deep learning algorithms. The data mining process is presented in detail in section 2 of the paper.
