  • In this study, the concept of Just-In-Time, Lean Construction and Supply Chain Management have been applied to furniture works of high-rise residental building. For the purpose of systematic furniture work planning, it should be established to analyse furniture-work process from design phase through contract, and procurement to construction phase. The analysis of process and data for furniture-work provides the roles of conducting subjects and presents management items at each phase. This proposal will provide the systematic furniture-work managements and reduce construction time and cost, and also raise the quality of furniture works.

  • In Korean construction industry, a public sector's ordering volume has been constantly increased after 2000. But, because a cost, schedule and quality control generally depends on a result-centric management form and a transparent management is not done during the construction in the Korean public business, it is recognized that this causes problems including an increase of cost and schedule, incomplete construction, a difficulty to find the problem in advance to establish measures, and an unclear locus of responsibility of constructor, supervisor and designer. Accordingly, this study is intended to derive the problems and the limit of management by identifying and analyzing the management state of the present government construction client for the client organization of public sector's government construction. Also, the study is intended to contribute to the client's efficient and actual project management by presenting the model of supplementing or improving the derived problem and limits to the client's organization.

  • The aim of this study was to determine the best processing conditions for producing of dried lean pork as a ready-to-serve product without using large-scale machines. Lean pork sausage was produced using 1.27% sodium chloride, 0.075% sodium polyphosphate, 0.06% sodium ascorbate, 0.075% sodium pyrophosphate, 0.009% sodium nitrite, 0.009% dextrin, 0.11% sodium glutamate and 1.4% spice mixture. The most appropriate slice thickness for drying was examined by slicing the sausage at a 0.5, 1 and 2 cm thickness. The drying temperatures were determined by drying the sausage slices at 35, 48 and $68^{\circ}$. The total drying period was for 12 hr, In order to examine the ability of this process to sterilize the pork, the raw meat materials were inoculated with Escherichia coli (E. coli). The optimal conditions for producing lean pork sausages were a 2 cm slice thickness and drying temperature of $68^{\circ}C$ for 12 hr, The moisture content water activity, color, hardness and pH were measured in the dried product. The product had a moisture content of 47.5% and a water activity of 0.93. There was a 47.7% percentage reduction in moisture. The dried product tested negative for E. coli even though the raw meat materials been inoculated with E. coli.

  • The domestic reinforcement concrete works have mainly worked the process of re-bar fabrication/assembly on site and re-bar works affected by structural safety, durability, and schedule with form work. Accordingly, This study analyzes the process of re-bar fabrication/assembly on site to apply lean production principles to construction Value Stream Analysis(VSA) is analyzed into value-adding activity and non-value-adding activity on construction process through value analysis and Value Stream Mapping(VSM). In the results, non-value-adding activity generates waste such as the activity steps, labors, equipments, materials, time, and so on. Additionally, push-driven production is investigated making low productivity from the overproduction and so on. To resolve the problems in the process, The purpose of this paper eliminates waste factor through maximizing the value-adding activity generating value added and minimizing non-value adding activity. Particularly, it makes flow production and pull-driven production through minimizing work-in-process(WIP ).

  • Process management techniques are highly important in the construction industry. However, indicators or details of assessment which will show process management and its performance are still very insufficient. In particular, it is true that local corporations or small and medium sized companies suffer more difficulties than ones in metropolitan areas. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare a flexible process management and performance assessment system suited to field situations. This study identified problems of local small and medium sized companies, implemented a process and performance management system using the Lean concept, and systemized a web-based system. Also, the study proposed operational strategies so that small and medium construction companies may access and use the system easily. This will ensure the competitiveness of local small and medium sized companies, will pursue visible outcomes such as construction period reduction and construction cost reduction, and will be utilized as data related to performance assessment both during construction progress and after construction.

  • The combustion characteristics of gasoline and diesel were tested in a compression ignition engine. Both fuels were used with same common rail injection system. Combustion experiment showed that low load condition of 0.45 MPa IMEP (indicated mean effective pressure) was tested in metal and optical engines. The gasoline combustion showed higher hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions but lower soot emission compared with diesel combustion. NOx emissions were very high at late injection timing but significantly decreased at early injection timing due to the lean combustion resulted from vigorous mixing process. Direct combustion visualization showed that the diesel combustion was dominated by diffusion combustion exhibiting soot incandescence and the gasoline combustion was mostly consisted of premixed combustion showing blue chemiluminescence.

  • Management of today's dynamic projects requires a shift of focus from product to process. The purpose of traditional project controls is to conform performance to plan. The purpose of lean project controls is to make the best possible choices at each point in time during the course of the project, as well as contributing knowledge to the parent organizations so they can learn from project experience. The Lean Construction Institute(LCI) proposed the Last Planner System(LPS) capable of accomplishing that purpose, principally through controlling the quality of planning and of management processes themselves, as distinct from concentrating exclusively on project performance. The case project was a pilot project for the implementation of the Last Planner. Consequently, the coordination of the work on this project was extremely successful. The project had its share of challenges. The coordination did not prevent design problems, or supplier errors, but helped the team deal with the problems effectively while maintaining the work flow. The last planner helped the contractors know: a) who will be doing what and where, b) what each one needs from the others, and c) what are the project priorities. The system itself created a more collaborative environment, because it 'demands' that the subcontractors address these issues.

  • This paper is the second of 3 companion papers which investigate axial stratification process. In-cylinder fuel behavior has been investigated in the port injected Sl engine by visualizing for the purpose of understanding stratification. Planar laser light sheet from an Nd:YAG laser has been illuminated through the transparent quartz cylinder of the single cylinder optical engine and the Mie scattered light has been captured through the quartz window in the piston head with an ICCD camera. Fuel has been replaced with an air-ethanol mixture to utilize atomized fuel spray fur the visualization purposes. This results have been compared with steady flow concentration measurement. For low/medium swirl port, the early injection makes such a fuel distribution state that is upper-rich, middle-lean and lower-rich along the combustion chamber and cylinder by tumbling motion. On the other hand, the late injection induces upper-rich, middle-lean and lower-rich state due to the short fuel penetration.

  • In this paper, we find a method to improve ignitability using methanol which is prospective as an alternative fuel. The constant volume combuster is divided into main chamber and sub-cham¬ber. These two chambers are linked by an adapter which is shaped like a cup. We also compare CDI to HIS that is revised in our laboratory for making a scrutiny into the effects of ignition char¬acteristics. Besides, we analyze a flame propagation process in the main and sub-chamber through taking pictures 10, 000 frames per second by high speed camera at the state being fabricated quartz glass aside main and sub-chamber.
