Investigating the Process of Developing and Retaining Competent IT Personnel: The Role of IT Leadership

  • Given the critical role of information technology (IT) in achieving organizations' strategic goals, it becomes increasingly important for organizations to develop and retain a competent IT workforce. We investigate how organizations make IT personnel feel content with their job, motivate them to perform at their best, and consequently retain them. We develop a model in which IT leadership, conceptualized as "transformational" and "transactional" IT leader behaviors, influences IT personnel's perceptions of requisite soft skills and IT personnel's Quality-of-Work-Life (QWL), and how IT personnel's QWL in turn affects IT personnel's intention to stay. Using survey data from 205 IT professionals, we found that IT leadership behaviors, particularly transformational leadership behaviors, positively influence IT personnel's intention to stay. We also found that this relationship is fully mediated by IT personnel's QWL. In addition, we found that transformational leadership behaviors positively influence IT personnel's perceptions of requisite soft skills. We discuss the implications of our findings for theory and practice.

간호대학생의 자기효능감 및 의사소통 능력이 셀프리더십에 미치는 융복합적 영향 (The Effect of Self-efficacy and Communication ability to Self-leadership of Nursing student)

  • 본 연구 목적은 간호대학생의 자기효능감과 의사소통능력이 셀프리더십에 미치는 융복합적 영향을 확인하고자 시도하였다. 연구대상자는 일개 대학교의 재학생 320명을 대상으로 2018년 5월 2일 부터 5월 20일 까지 실시하였다. 자료분석방법은 SPSS 18,0을 이용하여 t-test, one-way ANOVA, pearson's correlation coefficient, stepwise multple regression으로 분석하였다. 연구결과는 일반적 특성에 따른 의사소통 능력은 학년, 셀프리더십은 나이, 학년에서 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보였다. 자기효능감, 의사소통능력 및 셀프리더십간의 상관성은 셀프리더십과 의사소통능력(r=.376, p=000)은 통계적으로 유의한 정의 상관관계를 보였고, 대상자들의 의사소통능력이 셀프리더십을 14.1% 설명하는 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 결과로 간호대학생들의 대학생활 적응에 대한 다차원적인 이해를 돕고, 대학생활 적응을 위한 여러 가지 프로그램 개발과 방향 모색이 필요함을 제언한다.

  • 본 연구는 가정과 교육을 통해 셀프리더십을 향상시킬 수 있는 방안을 모색하기 위하여 '청소년의 자기관리' 내용을 중심으로 실천적 문제 중심의 교수-학습 과정안을 개발하고 이 수업이 셀프리더십 향상에 효과가 있는지를 분석하고자 한다. 이를 위하여 경기도 고양시에 소재한 중학교 2학년 2개 학급을 대상으로 실천적 문제 중심 수업을 적용하고 셀프리더십의 향상 정도를 대응표본 t검정으로 알아보았다. 개발된 교수-학습 과정안의 총괄 학습목표를 '자신을 존중하고, 자신의 시간관리 및 장기목표를 스스로 계획하고 실천할 수 있는 능력을 길러 자신을 삶을 스스로 통제하고 조절할 수 있는 주도적인 청소년이 되도록 한다'로 정하였다. 학습 내용요소로 '나의 자아 존중감 향상', '나의 주장 훈련을 통한 자아 존중감 향상', '인생의 목표 설정', '시간자원의 중요성', '시간자원의 주도적인 관리'로 정하여 6차시의 교수-학습 과정안을 개발하였다. 개발된 교수-학습 과정안을 적용한 결과 실천적 문제 중심 수업방법이 셀프리더십 향상에 효과가 있다는 결과를 얻었다. 또한 셀프리더십의 하위요인인 의사소통기술, 학습능력기술, 집단관리기술에서 수업 전후에 유의미한 차이를 보이고 있었다. 이를 통해 실천적 문제 중심 가정과 수업은 현대사회에서 요구되는 자기 스스로를 이끌어 갈 수 있는 셀프리더십을 갖춘 인간을 키우는데 적합한 교수-학습 방법이라고 할 수 있다.

대학 신입생을 위한 리더십 계발 프로그램의 효과 (Effects of Leadership Development Program for University Students)

  • 본 연구 목적은 대학 신입생들을 대상으로 리더십 계발 프로그램 시행 후 리더십 생활기술, 자아존중감, 대인관계 임파워먼트 변인에 대한 효과의 남녀 차이를 검증하였다. 본 연구에서 실시된 프로그램은 이주희 등(2012)이 대학생을 대상으로 개발한 리더십 계발 프로그램 지침서를 토대로 사용하였다. 본 프로그램 구성은 대학에서 교양강좌로 활용할 수 있도록 13회기로 이루어져 있고, 매 회기는 강의 20분과 구조화 집단 활동 프로그램 80분으로 구성되어 있다. 연구대상은 D대학교 2012학년도 전체 신입생이다. 리더십 계발 프로그램 효과를 검증하기 위해 프로그램 실시 전과 실시 후에 설문지 600부를 배부하여 회수된 설문지 중 쌍(pair)을 이루지 않거나 누락된 것을 제외한 325쌍의 설문지를 분석하였다. 리더십 계발 프로그램 실시에 따른 처치 효과 검증을 위해 spss 18.0을 사용하여 paired t-test를 실시하였고, 리더십 계발 프로그램의 상담효과를 질적으로 분석하기 위하여 프로그램 종결 회기에 참여자들이 의미 있는 활동과 이유를 개별적으로 작성한 내용을 분석하였다. 사전-사후 검사결과 리더십 계발 프로그램을 실시한 이후 리더십 생활기술, 자아존중감 향상에 유의미한 변화를 보였으며 대인관계 임파워먼트의 경우 남자 신입생에게는 유의미한 결과를 나타냈지만 여자 신입생들에게는 변화를 보이지 않았다. 질적 분석 결과를 종합하면 리더십 계발 프로그램을 통해 대인관계 향상에 도움이 되고, 자신의 인생을 되돌아보고 미래를 계획할 시간을 갖고 자신의 꿈과 목표를 명확히 하여 진로에 대한 구체적인 생각을 갖도록 하는데 도움을 준 것으로 분석되었다. 결론적으로 리더십 계발 프로그램은 대학생 신입생들의 리더십 생활기술, 자아 존중감, 대인관계 임파워먼트 향상에 효과가 있음이 입증되었다.

리더십 향상을 위한 초등과학 영재 교수 학습 프로그램의 효과 (The Effects of the Teaching and Learning Program to Improve Leadership for the Gifted in Science)

  • The purpose of this study is to devise a teaching and learning strategies of leadership for the gifted in science, to develop a leadership reinforcement program using the strategies, and to verify the effectiveness of the program. We designed teaching and learning strategies of leadership for the gifted in science as follows; to give a chance to exercise the essential elements of leadership life skills through science activities. The activities based on students' interest should stimulate reflective thinking and cooperation with each other. We found out that the teaching and learning program for leadership improvement for the gifted in science was effective, especially group management skill, communication skill, decision-making skill, human relations skill, and self-understanding skill.

The Impact of Leadership Skills on Food Security Intervention: A Comparative Study between Males and Females

  • Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), whether international (INGOs) or local (NGOs), are the primary engines of humanitarian assistance in almost all national economies. Food security and these organizations are inextricably linked. They include a wide range of activities that need shared management or ventures to ensure food security in the Gaza Strip. Between December 2021 and January 2022, the survey was delivered online using Google forms. The target demographic for the research was those who worked for NGOs, whether it is local or international, in the Gaza Strip in the field of food security. Furthermore, 250 employees (N = 250) were used for this research. Women's contributions to these organizations' innovation in the Gaza Strip are highlighted in this research, which has crucial ramifications for policymakers and leaders. As a first step, NGOs should encourage more female leaders to enter this organization to boost female roles in this field. Leaders in Gaza Strip could also help promote the innovative management of top female leaders. Hence, these firms should offer training programs to assist women in their advancement in innovation.

대학병원의 팀 운영특성에 따른 효과성 인식에 관한 연구 (The Employees' Perception of the Effectiveness of Team System at University Hospitals in Korea)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of team system at university hospitals in Korea. Data were collected from administrative and medical support workers at 4 university hospitals through the self-administered questionnaires and analyzed using frequency analysis, t-test, and oneway ANOVA. The results of this study are as follows. First, teams with higher team management characteristics show higher level of quality of work life and performance effectiveness. Second, teams which consist of members with variety background and skills show higher level of quality of work life and performance effectiveness. Third, team which have the higher autonomy, technology variety, job significance, and feedback show higher team effectiveness. Fourth, team which have team leaders with higher leadership score show higher level of quality of work life and performance effectiveness. Fifth, there are differences in team effectiveness in terms of sicio- demographic variables such as average age, position, and tenure of team members, length of team system, and team size. Sixth, the job autonomy of team members and the leadership of team managers have significant effects on the quality of work life variables. Seventh, the leadership of team leaders, job autonomy of members, and individual contact between team managers and members have significant effects on the team performance variables. In conclusion, in order to increase the effectiveness of team system in university hospitals, it is required to consider the characteristics of team management, diversity of team members, the autonomy of team members, the leadership of team manager, and the socio-demographic factors of team members.

3년제 치위생과 학생의 눈치, 셀프리더십, 학업적 자기효능감이 대학생활 적응에 영향 요인 (Effect of Nunchi, self-leadership and academic selfe-fficacy on college students' adaptation to college life)

  • Objectives: This study intended to investigate the effect of Nunchi, self-leadership, and academic self-efficacy on adaptation to college life among dental hygiene college students in a three-year program. By extension, the study seeks to find positive ways necessary for students to adapt to college life. Methods: A survey was conducted from Aug 1 to Sep 30, 2019 on 182 dental hygiene college students who agreed to participate in the survey. Data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0. An independent t-test, a one-way ANOVA, Scheffe's post-hoc test, and Pearson's correlation coefficients were employed, and a multiple regression analysis was conducted. Results: Findings showed that the students' average score on adaptation to college life was 3.34. Factors having a significant effect on adaptation to college life came out in this order: grade_dummy2(2/3), academic self-efficacy and grade_dummy1(1/2). Explanations skills accounted for 28.0%. Conclusions: The results highlight a need for programs dedicated to improving dental hygiene college students' adaptation to college life should be developed and implemented.

농민조직의 리더십 유형과 개발에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Leadership Style and Development of Agricultural Organization in Korea)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the leadership style and development of agricultural organization in Korea. Specific objectives of the study were to : 1) identify the leadership style of agricultural organization though literature review, 2) survey the members' opinions about their leadership style, 3) examine the leader's self-estimation of their leadership style, 4) identify the desirable leadership style items of the leaders and members, 5) suggest effective way to the development of leadership style. The study was carried out through literature review and questionnaire survey. Total of 715 farmers were surveyed to collect data, and 501 responded. The statistical techniques applied on the data are frequency, percentile, analysis of variance, multiple regression utilizing the SPSS/WIN, and the statistical significance was tested at .05 level. The major findings of the study were: 1) the leaders motivation and problem solving abilities of agricultural organizations were not enough to satisfy the members, 2) members believed the leaders make somewhat arbitrary decisions, 3) the leaders of the organizations had difficulties to coordinate the different opinions of the members, and 4) the leaders of the organizations felt the need of skills and information on leadership style and development of agricultural organization. For improvement of leadership for agricultural organization, this study suggests; 1) the more education programs should be made and practiced to make their leadership special, 2) all members should make much efforts to have channels for rational communication, 3) the leaders have to give members well-polished incentives for active participation, 4) more governmental support should be given to empower those organizations, and 5) the agricultural organizations, universities and government must establish a strong coordinating system to realize above suggestions.

외국의 농촌청소년 개발사업의 현황과 시사점 (A Study on the Rural Youth Programs of Foreign Countries)

  • The purposes of this study were to review the rural youth programs of selected foreign countries and to draw some implications to the rural youth programs in Korea. The youth development programs reviewed were 4-H Youth Development Program of U.S.A, Rural Youth Information Service of Australia, Rural Youth Job Strategy of Canada, The Urban-Rural Youth Program of U.S.A, and Expert Consultation on Extension Rural Youth Programmes and Sustainable Development of FAO. After reviewing the rural youth programs of selected foreign countries, the authors suggested the following implications for further development of rural youth programs in Korea; 1. The target group of rural youth programs should include urban youth as well as rural youth, and the programs should be focused on enlarging their awareness of the rural community and agriculture. 2. Rural youth programs should be extended beyond agricultural sectors, such as leadership, career development, leisure activity, and cultural life. 3. We should develop some programs to support academic achievement, career development, employment, cultural needs including some strategies to prevent problematic behaviors of rural youth. 4. Rural youth should be supported more opportunities to join the community life to experience and learn various life skills through active participation such as interpersonal skill, leadership skill, and problem-solving skill.
