A Study on the Curing of Positive Plate and Grid to Improve the Capacity of the Lead-Acid Batteries (납축전지의 성능 향상을 위한 양극판의 숙성과 그리드에 관한 연구)

  • This study was conducted to made a grid alloy (Pb-Ca-Sn-Al) which has a temporary composition ratio in order to improve the efficiency of lead acid batteries. The positive activity material made a 3BS(tri-basic lead sulfate; $3PbO{\cdot}PbSO_4{\cdot}H_2O$) by a low temperature curing and it evaluates the plate efficiency through the life cycle testing. The initial current capacity of low temperature curing plate was excellent but the life cycle was not good (S1). As for the S2 plate, however, the initial current capacity and the life cycle were superior.

  • In order to use railway system standby power, produced 160Ah NiMH battery that would be able to substitute the lead acid battery or NiCd battery form which contain the toxic material in environment, using parallel connected 80Ah NiMH battery. And in order to develop proper electrode in the 160Ah NiMH battery, tested high rate discharge performance of the ternary electrolyte. 160Ah NiMH battery evaluated the various test in order to use railway system standby power.

  • 본 연구에서는 태양광 발전 시스템용 밀폐형 연축전지(VRLA Valve Regulated Lead Acid battery)의 특성을 고려한 최적 정전압 충전 기법을 적용하여 축전지 과충전 현상 및 부적절한 충전에 의한 조기 수명 저하의 요인을 해결할 수 있는 방안을 모색함으로써, 태양광 발전 시스템의 활성화 및 Lift-Cycle 단가를 감소시킬 수 있는 기초 자료로 활용하고자 한다. 또한 원격 감시 시스템을 통한 시스템의 운용 상태 결과를 정확하게 실시간 수집 분석하여 대체에너지용 밀폐형 축전지 최적 충전 시스템 상용화를 위한 기초 자료로 활용하고자 한다.

  • The emergency power supplies (EPSs) are required to increase battery sizing for protecting power source loss above designed criteria. This study proposes a sizing method for lithium-based batteries for EPSs in nuclear power plants on the basis of the calculation method for the required energy under variable conditions. The variable conditions are related with the characteristics of lithium-based batteries, such as the temperature of the location of EPS installation, aging, and design margin. The usage of lithium-based battery reduces the cost and installation space and enables the safe and long-term supply of power compared with the use of lead-acid battery.

  • In this study, the electrochemical properties of nano-Pb/activated carbon (nano-Pb/AC) composites and electrolyte additives were examined to improve the performance of ultra batteries. Physical properties of the prepared nano-Pb/AC composites were analyzed using FE-SEM, TEM, XPS and BET. The electrochemical performances of ultra batteries were performed by cycle, rate performance and impedance tests. The cycling performance of nano-Pb/AC (Pb : 9 wt%) coated ultra battery increased by 150% with respect to the lead acid one, and the discharge specific capacity increased by 119-122% for 1-5 C rate tests. As a result of the impedance test, it was confirmed that the internal resistance decreased as the nano lead content increased. The cycle performance of the ultra battery containing 0.45 vol% electrolyte additives showed 140% longer than that of no electrolyte additives.

  • The capacity and long life of gel electrolyte batteries is connected with gas recombination producting $PbO_2$ and Pb electrode. We were prepared with phosphoric acid gel electrolyte to know gel characteristics per density to assemble VRLA batteries. We studied by measuring electrolyte dispersion using Brewster-angle microscope(BAM), charge-discharge cycle and electrode structure using scanning election microscope(SEM) per electrolyte density. As a results, phosphoric acid density 1.210 was excellent gel dispersion in sol condition, electrode condition after fifty cycles in this study.

Improvement of charging efficiency of AGM lead acid battery through formation pattern research (Formation pattern 연구를 통한 AGM 연축전지의 충전 효율 향상)

  • In order to improve fuel economy and reduce CO2, HEV adopts ISG system as a standard. This ISG system increased the electric load that the battery had to bear, and the number of starting increased rapidly. AGM Lead Acid batteries have been developed and used, but the charging time is about three times longer as the electrolyte amount control during formation must be maintained at a higher level compared to conventional lead-acid batteries. In this study, we tried to shorten the charging time by increasing the charging efficiency through the optimization of the formation pattern. In order to optimize the Formation Pattern, 10 charging steps and 6 discharging steps were applied to 16 multi steps, and the charging current for each step was controlled, and the test was conducted under 4 conditions (21 hr, 24 hr, 27 hr, 30 hr). As a result of simultaneous application of multi-step and discharge step, it was verified that minimizing the current loss and eliminating the sudden polarization during charging contributes to the improvement of charging efficiency. As a result, it showed excellent results in reducing the charging time by about 30 % with improved charging efficiency compared to the previous one.

  • The existing batteries such as lead acid battery and Nicad battery have been at serious issue, because heavy metal such as Pb and Cd give rise to environmental pollution. Therefor, when these material is changed over polymeric electroactive material, we expect environmental pollution will be prevented. We decided to develop 2025 coin type PAn/Li-Al secondary battery for goal of memory back-up battery. This report is concerned with manufacturing of 2025 coin type PAn/Li -Al secondary battery.
