  • The peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) are members of a superfamily of nuclear hormone receptors. Lots of studies in rodents and humans have shown that PPARs were involved in lipid metabolism and adipocyte differentiation. The main objective of this work was to detect the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in whole coding regions of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPAR-$\alpha$) and gamma (PPAR-$\gamma$) genes with approach of single strand conformation polymorphism (SSCP) in the chicken population of Arber Acres broiler, Hyline layer and three Chinese native breeds (Shiqiza, Beijing You, Bai'r). Two SNPs of C1029T and C297T were found in chicken PPAR-$\alpha$ and PPAR-$\gamma$ genes respectively and each SNP found three genotypes in the experimental populations. The results showed that the distribution frequency of 3 genotypes in Arber Acres broiler, Hyline layer and Chinese native breeds had significant differences on the PPAR-$\alpha$ and PPAR-$\gamma$ gene respectively (p<0.01). Furthermore, in the PPAR-$\alpha$ gene, the results of least square estimation for genotypes and body composition traits showed the BB genotype birds had higher abdominal fat weight (AFW) and percentage of abdominal fat (AFP) than AA genotype birds (p<0.05). From these we conjecture the PPAR-$\alpha$ and PPAR-$\gamma$ genes were suffered intensive selection during the long term commercial breeding and the PPAR-$\alpha$ gene may be a major gene or linked to the major genes that impact chicken fat metabolism and the SNPs could be used in molecular assistant selection (MAS) as a genetic marker for the chicken fatness traits.

  • Pupation site selection behavior of Plodia interpunctella (H$\ddot{u}$bner) in response to its larval parasitoid, Bracon hebetor Say, was evaluated. Under the presence of the parasitoid, more moth larvae pupated in a layer deeper than 5 mm. Because the parasitoid searched for the host mostly in the surface layer (< 5 mm), larvae in deeper layers were able to successfully escape attack by the parasitoid. However, this behavior did not affect the numerical response of the parasitoid. The parasitoid laid more eggs per host larvae when the number of attacked larvae decreased.

  • In this paper, we investigate the design of the QAM(Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) method for the CACB(Constant Amplitude Coded Multicode Biorthogonal) scheme. The modulation method fan improve the transmission data rate by increasing the BE(Bandwidth Efficiency). Additionally, we can improve the system performance by using the QAM SD(Soft Decision) method with the MDSA(Minimum Distance Selection Algorithm). Finally, the DFE(Decision Feedback Equalizer) for the CACB-QAM is simulated under the MPF(MultiPath Fading) channel for real implementation. The proposed scheme can be used for the PHY(PHYsical layer) standard of the WPAN(Wireless Personal Area Network) requiring high rate data transmission.

  • VO2 is an attractive candidate as a transition metal oxide switching material as a selection device for reduction of sneak-path current. We demonstrate deposition of nanoscale VO2 thin films via thermal atomic layer deposition (ALD) with H2O reactant. Using this method, we demonstrate VO2 thin films with high-quality characteristics, including crystallinity, reproducibility using X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurement. We also present a method that can increase uniformity and thin film quality by splitting the pulse cycle into two using scanning electron microscope measurement. We demonstrate an ON / OFF ratio of about 40, which is caused by metal insulator transition (MIT) of VO2 thin film. ALD-deposited VO2 films with high film uniformity can be applied to next-generation nonvolatile memory devices with high density due to their metal-insulator transition characteristic with high current density, fast switching speed, and high ON / OFF ratio.

  • This study was carried out to identify the relationship between naturally introduced vegetation on the abandoned coal mine lands and the surrounding forest, and to select the indigenous tree species for the revegetation of the real mine lands in Taeback, Kangwon Province, Korea. The apparent species in the surrounding forest of Sododong were 9 species of tree layer, 13 species of subtree layer, 23 species of shrub layer and 23 species of herb layer, respectively. The dominant species in Sarijae were 6 species of tree layer, 15 species of subtree layer, 31 species of shrub layer and 25 species of herb layer, respectively. The plant species in the abandoned real mine land were 31 species in Sododong and 30 species in Sarijae, respectively. The number of plant species in the abandoned coal mine land was smaller than the surrounding forest. The common species of the coal mine lands and the surrounding forest were 6 species(Betula schimidtii etc.) in Sododong and 4 species(B. costata etc.) in Sarijae. It was considered that the species in the coal mine lands introduced from the species of top layer in the surrounding forest. Especially, B. costata in Sarijae showed the edge effect which regenerates the vegetative community from the boundary area of coal mine land and surrounding forest. Natural revegetation in Sododong was also progressing by the invasion of tree species in surrounding forest, such as B. schmidtii. Consequently, natural revegetation in the disturbed coal mine lands may be related to the species composition of the surrounding forest.

  • In Korea, Torreya nucifera (L.) Siebold & Zuccarini is widely distributed in the warm temperate zone of South coastal area and Jeju island, mainly as preserved forest in the vicinity of the Buddhist temple and Confucian temple. The objective of this study is in order to develop the conservation method and comprehension of vegetation community by current vegetation structure analysis of Torreya nucifera stand. As the results, the number of surveyed species in Torreya nucifera stand were total 148 species with 28 species of tree layer, 38 species of subtree layer, and 82 species of shrub layer. The appearance of the common species were Ligustrum obtusifolium Siebold & Zucc., Hedera rhombea Bean, and Trachelospermum asiaticum Nakai var. asiaticum. All the story of the surveyed region, Torreya nucifera maintained the current dominant species, but the subtree layer and shrub layer was decreased dominant rate because of the development of the crown of tree layer and biased growth of the subtree layer. Most of the tree layer and subtree layer in Torreya nucifera stands are composed of the sprout forest. Therefore, these results suggest that in order to maintain the healthy stand it is demanded for the application of selection thinning method for reducing crown competition in Torreya nucifera forests.

  • Currently, there are researches about environment-friendly road construction plans led by the Ministry of Construction and Transportation in progress. Therefore, in order to create the revegetation techniques of thin layer-soil combination media hydroseeding measures by actively using native herbs and native woody plants instead of using imported foreign grasses as a concept of sustainable environment-friendly land development, this thesis is going to identify problems that can appear when applying the thin- layer-soil-media hydroseeding measures by the suggested in the "Slope revegetation design and guidelines" proposed by the Ministry of Construction and Transportation, and to propose improvement plans for the problems. To this aim, a seeding mixture selection test was conducted by the goal of slope restoration, and a test group for artificial slope was created. As for a test for June sowing, it was intended to identify appropriate combination quantity by conducting a test that differentiates the combination quantity, and as for a test for September sowing, an artificial slope test was conducted by creating an artificial bank for earth and soil and applying 1~2cm and 3~4cm thickness after differentiating the seed combination volume and slope aspects.

  • The configuration of the flow channel on a bipolar plate of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell(PEMFC) for efficient reactant supply has great influence on the performance of the fuel cell. Recent demand for higher energy density fuel cells requires an increase in current density at mid voltage range and a decrease in concentration overvoltage at high current density. Therefore, an interdigitated flow channel where mass transfer rate by convection through a gas diffusion layer is greater than the mass transfer by a diffusion mechanism through a gas diffusion layer was recently proposed. This study attempts to analyze the i-V performance, mass transfer and pressure drop in interdigitated flow channels by developing a fully three dimensional simulation model for PEMFC that can deal with anode and cathode flow together. The results indicate that the trade off between performance and pressure loss should be considered for efficient design of flow channels. Although the performance of the fuel cell with interdigitated flow is better than that with conventional flow channels due to a strong mass transfer rate by convection across a gas diffusion layer, there is also an increase in friction due to the strong convection through the porous diffusion layer accompanied by a larger pressure drop along the flow channel. It was evident that the proper selection of the ratio of channel and rib width under counter flow conditions in the fuel cell with interdigitated flow are necessary to optimize the interdigitated flow field design.
