  • An empirical relationship which can be calculated to the lattice constants $a_0$ and $c_0$ for the borate crystals with huntite structure were determined. Different compositions of twenty-eight were used for the calculations. These empirical formulas can be used to predict lattice parameters of unknown compositions as a function of the average ionic radii in the trigonal and octahedral sites of the huntite structure.

  • We consider the tapped-delay line (TDL) equalizer with the few calculation quantity and the simplity, the decision feedback equalizer (DFE) with the good property for interference, and lattice equalizer(LE) with high insensitivity to roundoff noise in mobile communication fading channel. The used adaptive algorithm is the LMS algorithm and RLS algorithm. In this paper, we have evaluated the performance of the TDL equalizer, the decision feedback equalizer, and lattice-structured equalizer, for the digital signal corrupted by the impulsive noise and the white gaussian noise under the fading channel environment. From the results of error performance analysis, it is confirmed that lattice-structured equalizer has better performance than DFE equalizer and TDL equalizer.

  • Stability is a very important part which we must consider in structural design. In this paper, we take advantage of finite element method to study parametrical instability of lattice dome structures, which is subjected to harmonically pulsating load. We consider elastic stiffness and geometrical stiffness simultaneously during the calculation of stiffness matrix, and adopt consistent mass matrix to make the solution more correct. In order to obtain instability regions, we represent displacements and accelerations in dynamic equation by trigonometric series expansions, and then obtain Hill's infinite determinants. After first order approximation, we can get first and second order dynamic instability regions eventually. Finally, we take 24-bar star dome and 90-bar lamella dome as examples to investigate dynamic instability phenomena.

  • Transport lattice codes require the resonance integral tables for the resonant nuclides where the resonance integral is a function of the background cross section and can be prepared through a special program solving the slowing down equation. In case the cross section libraries do not include the resonance integral table for the resonant nuclides, the computational prediction produces a large error. We devised a new method using a Monte Carlo calculation for the effective resonance cross sections to solve this problem provisionally. We extended this method to obtain the resonance integral table for general purpose. The MCNP code is used for the effective resonance integrals and the LIBERTE code for the effective background cross sections. We modified the HELIOS library with the effective cross sections and the resonance integral tables obtained by the newly developed Monte Carlo method, and performed sample calculations using HELIOS and LIBERTE. The results showed that this method is very effective for the resonance treatment.

  • We established a thermodynamic framework of group contribution method based on modified double lattice (MDL) model. The proposed model included the long-range interaction contribution caused by the Coulomb electrostatic forces, the middle-range interaction contribution from the indirect effects of the charge interactions and the short-range interaction from modified double lattice model. The group contribution method explained the combinatorial energy contribution responsible for the revised Flory-Huggins entropy of mixing, the van der Waals energy contribution from dispersion, the polar force, and the specific energy contribution from hydrogen bonding. We showed the solvent activities of various polymer solution systems in comparison with theoretical predictions based on experimental data. The proposed model gave a very good agreement with the experimental data.

  • Immersed boundary lattice Boltzmann method (IBLBM) has been applied to simulate a turbulent flow over circular cylinder in a flow field effectively. Although IBLBM is very effective method to simulate the flow over a complex shape of obstacle in the flow field regardless of the constructed grids in the calculation domain, the results, however, become numerically unstable in high reynolds number flow. The most effective suggestion to archive the numerical stability in high Reynolds number flow is applying the multiple relaxation time (MRT) model instead of single relaxation time(SRT) model in the collision term of lattice Boltzmann equation. In the research MRT model for IBLBM was introduced and comparing the numerical results obtained by applying SRT and MRT. The hydraulic characteristic of cylinder in a flow field between two parallel plate at the range of $Re{\leqq}2000$represented and it is also compared the drag and lifting coefficients of the cylinder calculated by IBLBM with SRT and MRT model.

  • A rational and straightforward method is introduced for developing continuum models of large platelike periodic lattice structures based on energy equivalence. The procedure for developing continuum plate models involves the use of existing well-defined finite element matrices for the easy calculation of strain and kinetic energies of a repeating cell, from which the reduced stiffness and mass matrices are obtained in terms of continuum degrees- of-freedom defined in this paper. The equivalent continuum plate properties are obtained from the direct comparison of the reduced matrices for continuum plate with those for lattice plate. The advantages of the present continuum method are that it may be applied to arbitrary lattice configurations and may give most diverse equivalent continuum plate properties including all kinds of coupling, while other methods may give only limited structural properties. To evaluate the continuum method developed in this paper, free vibration analyses for both of continuum and lattice plates are conducted. Numerical results show that the present continuum method gives very reliable structural and dynamic properties compared to other well-recognized methods.

  • An exhaust muffler is one of the simple and effective means to meet the demand for a quiet vehicle, and it deserves a close attention to effectively reduce the engine noise. The transfer function technique is one of the tools that have been used to analyze the noise characteristics of the exhaust muffler. In this paper we obtained a transfer function using the forward-going and backward-going components of sound pressure in the exhaust muffler, which is compatible wiht lattice filter algorithm. This form of transfer function is obtained for the basic elements of a muffler, such as uniform tube, open termin- ation, closed termination, anechoic termination, expansion, contraction, extended-tube resonator, hole, Helmholtz resonator, and concentric hole-cavity resonator. The results are combined to produce the transfer function of various types of mufflers. With this transfer function we calculate the transmission and insertion losses of mufflers, and examined the effects of various design parameters. Comparisons were made between the calculation and experimental results, which showed a good agreement, and we conclude that the transfer function of lattice form can be used to analyze the noise characteristics of the exhaust mufflers.

  • To calculate the lift of a thin lifting surface like the ship-rudder, it is popular to replace the lifting surface by a series of vortices. Two methods, which are vortex lattice method and mode function method, are frequently used to distribute the vortices on the lifting surface. In this paper, the intermediate way of two mentioned calculation method is carried out to exploit the merits of them. The basic concept of this method is to divide the lifting surface with several strips in span-wise and replace vortices to the chord-wise at each strips. A horn type semi-balanced rudder is chosen for the real method, and the validity of the proposed calculation is pursued by the open water test of the same rudder. Finall, this method is applied to the calculation of the interference between the two homogenous rudders siting parallel to the free stream.
