Variations of larval abundance and hatch timing of Dungeness crabs, Cancer magister Dana 1852, were investigated. Dungeness crab larvae were monthly collected at 16 stations arrayed in four transects, Upper Chatham, Icy Strait, Cross Sound, and Icy Point, in southeastern Alaska from May to September 1997-2004. Larval abundance at all transects was the highest in June except in the Icy Point transect. Larval abundance was the highest in the Icy Strait transect, moderate in the Upper Chatham and Cross Sound transects, and the lowest in the Icy Point transect. Zoeae I(ZI) was predominated in May; thereafter ZI decreased and late zoeal stages occurred. In May and June, small numbers of late stage larvae unusually co-occurred with ZI in three transects. These late stage larvae may have been transported from where hatching occurs earlier. The timing of ZI occurrence varied interannually and was related to degreedays during the egg incubation period of Dungeness crabs: later larval hatching in 1997 and 2002 when temperatures were colder, while earlier larval hatching in 1998 when temperatures were warmer. The distribution patterns of Dungeness crab larvae in southeastern Alaska were markedly different from those reported from other areas of the species distribution ranges: larvae occurring much later in the year, and late stage larvae occurring in inland waters.
Late blight incited by Phytophthora infestans (Mont.) de Bary, is an important problem for seed potato prodcution in Korea. At the alpine Daekwanryeong area, unprotected potatoes are often defoliated within 14 days after late blight is first observed in the field. Since regular spraying can control late blight, the forecasting service is needed for timely initiation of the spraying program. Climatological data and notes on late blight incidence were recorded during 1970-1977 at the Alpine Experiment Station. The moving graph method using 7-day average mean temperature and 7-day total rainfall did not give highly accurate forecasts. Adding data on relative humidity and 7-day average minimum temperature increased the usefulness of the moving graph. Yields of late blight susceptible varietieties in sprayed plots were related to late blight occurrence and to the rainfall distribution pattern.

Clearwing moths (Lepidoptera: Sesiidae) are economically important pests of fruit trees, such as apple, peach, and grape in Korea. Larvae feed on the phloem and cambium within tree branches of host plants. In this study, the seasonal fluctuation in male catches of four clearwing moths, Synanthedon haitangvora, S. bicingulata, Nokona regalis, and Glossosphecia romanovi, were monitored with the respective sex pheromone traps in Suwon for three years. In apple orchards, S. haitangvora males were captured from May to October, with two peaks in early June to middle June and late August to early September. Similarly, S. bicingulata males were trapped from May to October, with two peaks in late May and late August to middle September in peach orchards. In vineyards, N. regalis males were captured from late May to middle June with one peak in late May to early June, while G. romanovi males were trapped from early June to late July with one peak in late June to early July.

This study was conducted to determine Seasonal Occurrence, soybean damage and control efficacy of bean bug, Riptortus clavatus Thunberg at soybean field in Honam province. Occurrence of R. clavatus varied at seeding times with annual difference. The peak occurrence of R. clavatus was appeared at late of August for late May seeding and middle of September for middle June seeding. There was difference in the peak occurrence of R. clavatus due to different growing stages affected by different weather conditions though soybean was seeded at same time. If the rate of soybean seed damage area by R. clavatus sucking increases, the germinating rate was greatly decreased. If the rate of soybean seed damage area is above 50 percent, in particular, the germinating rate was very low with 2 percent. Control efficacy against R. clavatus was the highest with $91\%$ at 3 times treatment of insecticide at $R_4$ (full pod stage) + $R_5$ (Beginning seed stage) +$R_6$ (full seed stage) of soybean growing stages in field.
The occurrence and damage by the oriental fruit moth, Grapholita molesta (Busck) were investigated on pear trees from 1996 to 2000 in the Naju, Korea. The number of overwintering larvae in pear trees considerably varied depending on the maturation time of varieties. The density of overwintering larvae on late cultivars such as Gamcheonbae and Okusankichi was high, but relatively low on early cultivars. Trunk and main branch of pear trees were main overwintering sites. In 1997, overwintering larvae began to pupate from middle February, and to emerge from late March. Male moths were caught in the sex pheromone traps from late March until early October with four peaks of flight in 1996~2000. In every generation larvae damaged both the shoots and fruits of pear tree, but the first and second generation larvae tended to damage mainly shoots, while most of the injured fruits were due to the third and fourth generation larvae. In pear fruits damaged by fruit moths, most of these were caused by oriental fruit moth larvae and none of pear fruits were damaged by peach fruit moth or pear fruit moth larvae in 1998~2000.
Seasonal occurrence pattern of the peach pyramid moth (PPM), Dichocrosis punctfferahs, was studied by sex pheromone traps and mercury light traps in several Fuyu persimmon orchards under different control pressures in southern region of Korea in 2000 and 2001. Fruit damage by the larvae was also checked at harvesting time from 1999 to 2001. The pattern showed 3 distinct peaks; the 1st one in mid to late June, the 2nd one in mid to late August, and the 3rd one in late September. Number of PPM catches was higher in less controlled than in intensively controlled orchards. There were no persimmon fruits damaged by the larvae of PPM and persimmon fruit moth, Stathmopoda masinissa, in our samples from the testing orchards at harvesting time. Therefore, it is unlikely that these two quarantine pests are included in the exporting fruits. Considering flora adjacent to the tested orchards and zero levels of fruit damage by the larvae, there is a strong possibility that the moths flew from neighbouring chestnut trees or other host plants to be attracted to the traps in the persimmon orchards.
Monitoring was conducted to investigate the occurrence of Grapholita dimorpha Komai in Korean apple orchards using sex pheromone traps. G. dimorpa showed four peaks per year: early May, from late June to early July, from late July to mid August, and from late August to September. After adult emergence of the over-wintered G. dimorpha, G. dimorpha catches was decreased significantly and increased again after July. In G. molesta traps, G. molesta and G. dimorpha were trapped by 98.8 and 1.2%, respectively. Conversely in G. dimorpha traps, G. dimorpha and G. molesta were trapped by 99.7 and 0.3%, respectively. The 30.6% of the moths from the damaged apple fruits were G. dimorpha. This is the first report on G. dimorpha in apple orchards in Korea.
This studies was carried out to investigate the natural enemies of citrus red mite, pononychus citri and seasonal occurrence of its major beneficial insects in Yuzu groves (Chonnam province) from 1996 to 1998. Natural enemies against citrus red mite were 9 species including Oligota kashmirica benifica, 0. yasumatsui, Stethorus punctillum, Chrysopa pallens, Propylea japonica, Orius sauteri, Scolothrips takahashii, Amblyseius womersleyi and one unidentified species of thrips (Family: Phlaeothripidae). Among them, Oligota kashmirica benzficu and Stethorus punctillum were found to be dominant species. 0 . kushmirica henifica had 4-5 generations from middle May to middle November with peak in early September. S. punctillum had 3 generations from late May to late October with peak of late June to middle July. Population dynamics between predator ( 0 . kushmiricu benifica and S. punctillum) and prey (Panonychus citri) were quite well synchronized until September but predator density was decreased abruptly after October.
Purpose: Prognostic factors of coronary aneurysms in Kawasaki disease have been investigated in many studies. The aim of this study was to identify risk factors associated with early and late coronary artery outcomes in treated patients with Kawasaki disease. Methods: A total of 392 patients diagnosed with Kawasaki disease from January 2012 to December 2015 in Pusan National University Children's Hospital were retrospectively selected as subjects of the present study to determine risk factors for coronary aneurysms and persistence of coronary aneurysms after a 1-year follow-up. Results: Coronary aneurysms were detected in 30 of 392 patients within 1 month after the occurrence of Kawasaki disease. Coronary aneurysms persisted in 5 of 30 patients after a 1-year follow-up. A long duration of fever (adjusted odds ratio [OR], 1.47; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.06-2.02; P=0.018) and high platelet count (adjusted OR, 1.00; 95% CI, 1.00-1.01; P=0.009) were found to be independent factors to predict the development of coronary aneurysms in the early phase. Initial coronary severity (adjusted OR, 46.0; 95% CI, 2.01-1047.80; P=0.016) and a high white blood cell count (adjusted OR, 1.17; 95% CI, 1.01-1.36; P=0.028) were found to be significant factors for the persistence of late coronary aneurysms in univariate analysis. However, no significant factors were found in multivariate analysis. Conclusion: These data are from early and late follow-up of coronary aneurysms in our unit. Further studies are needed to determine the mechanisms involved in the disappearance of coronary aneurysms and related factors.
The occurrence of major pest infestation was compared between conventional tea plantation and organic tea plantation at Sulloc tea garden in Dosun-dong, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do from 2002 to 2009. Tetranychus kanzawai was observed a lot in the second year, but it waned from late June. There was not much difference between conventional farming and organic farming in terms of pest density. Empoasca onukii was infested in the second year of organic farming compared with conventional farming, which highlighted the fact that second year of organic farming requires a special care. Scirotothrips dorsalis was highly dense in the second and third year of conventional farming, but its occurrence was lowered when the farming technique was shifted to organic farming. The number of Homona magnanima peaked 4 times each year. In 2008, the first year of organic farming, saw high occurrence of 771.2 per trap per year. In 2009, the second year, the population per trap dropped to 80, showing a great variance depending on year. The occurrence of Caloptilia theivora peaked 5 times annually. In 2008, the first year of organic farming, an average of 2,779 pests per trap was found, and in the following year, 4,143 pests were observed. It showed that density rose in organic growing period.
