  • Since the 1980s, the number of large space buildings in Korea has consistently been increasing due to large scale international competitions such as the Olympics and the World Cup, demands for environmental improvement, and development of structural systems. Due to these reasons, this paper conducted a comparative analysis on terrorism risk factors of large space structure and skyscrapers in Korea. The results suggest that the total risk level of high-rise and large space structure was "medium level risk" and that the terrorism risk level for large space structure was as high as that for high-rise buildings. As it relates to the risk levels depending on scenarios, terrorism risks to large space structure were higher than high-rise buildings in the "internal explosion" and "internal intrusion" categories. And the results of analyzing explosion-related scenarios except for CBR suggest that terrorism risks to large space structure were highest when it comes to Internal-Explosive followed by Internal-Intrusion and Explosive-Zone I; and the results showed a regular pattern. On the other hand, in the case of high-rise buildings, terrorism risks were highest in Internal-Explosive followed by Explosive-Zone I and Explosive-Zone II; and the results showed an irregular pattern.

  • A robust controller for large space structures(LSS) is studied from passivity point of view. While velocity sensors are commonly used for proportional-derivative (PD) control law to stabilize large space structures, if the structure can be controlled without velocity measurements, it is desirable against the failure of velocity sensors and for the cost reduction of the sensing system. In a recent result a dynamic output feedback control law has been provided using only displacement measurements. This paper presents a passivity-based controller design method and provides an alternative stability analysis tool for the previous displacement feedback robust control law. The closed-loop system can be viewed as a feedback interconnection of a passivated large space structure (LSS) and a strictly positive real (SPR) system.

  • Recent years, the response characteristics of large space structures have been studied. Then, for the large space structures with large rise-span ratio, it is clarified that the anti-symmetric mode are representatively amplified. That means the static seismic load for general ramen structure is not suitable for the space structure. In this paper, we propose static seismic loads for space structures and its concept. And for the space structures of beam string structures, execute the time history analysis and quasi static analysis and compare the results of them. From the results, we can prove the validity of static seismic load for space structure.

  • In this research, the case of modern wooden structures since 1950 with span of 30m or more was investigated and analyzed the construction status and structural planning characteristics of wooden large space architecture. As a result, wooden large space buildings have built around Asia, North America, and Europe, in which cases of ice skating stadiums with span of 30m to 60m were concentrated. In the case of baseball parks and football stadiums, even a span of about 165m was built in a wooden structure. In addition, it was found that the structural systems used in wooden large space structures were a funicular arch and truss structure, in that cases, funicular arch system consisting of radial arrangements was used in the examples exceeded 150m and the two way truss system was also used in long span wooden structures exceeding 100m. As the truss structure with a tie-rod or the flexure+tension structure was partially investigated, it can be seen that various timber structural systems need to be devised and researched. Also, It was investigated that a technique in which some members of the truss are made of steel or a composite member of steel and timber is also possible to develop

  • This paper investigate the structure instability properties of the shelled space frame structure. The large structure must have thin thickness for build the large space structure there fore structure instability review is important when we do structural design. The structure instability of the shelled structure accept it sensitively by varied conditions. This come to a nonlinear problem with be concomitant large deformation. In this study, it is compared unstable behavior according to lode and boundary condition of the shelled space frame structure through numerical method which considered geometrical nonlinear and grasped influence for the instability phenomenon and investigated the fundamental collapse mechanism.

  • We consider a type of large deviation principle obtained by Freidlin and Wentzell for the solution of Stochastic differential equations in a conuclear space. We are using exponential tail estimates and exit probability of a Ito process. The nuclear structure of the state space is also used.

  • School gymnasium is a multi-purpose large space building for various events and physical education activities, and is a facility that requires an approach to the desirable structural design, besides mechanical problems of structure against loads. For the integrated structure design concerning the architectural features, the major considerations of gymnasium planning that are the internal and external shape of the gymnasium, the space scale with structure members, the structural efficiency by members weight reduction and openness of the gymnasium space will have to take into account in the structural planning. From this point of view, the several cases of the school gymnasium were investigated and the parametric analyses were performed to the models using the various structural system. The parameters were the composition elements of structure system that are profile of structure, rigidity of member, connection and anchorage and stability. At the result, It was presented that the profile of structure member was the most influential factor to structural efficiency and the effect of the form and space of gymnasium. Also the design informations of structure design having the various feature of form and space were presented for the initial gymnasium planning.

  • As people's living standards and cultural standards have developed, interest in culture and art has increased, and the demand for large space structures where people can enjoy art, music, and sports has increased. As it accommodates a large number of personnel, it is most important to ensure safety of large spatial structures, and can be used as a space where people can evacuate in case of a disaster. Large spatial structures should be prepared for earthquake loads rather than wind loads. In addition to damage to the structure due to earthquakes, there are cases in which it was not utilized as a space for evacuation due to the fall of objects installed on top of the structure. Therefore, in this study, the dome-shaped large spatial structure is generalized and the displacement response according to the number of installations, position and mass is analyzed using a tuned mass damper(TMD) that is representative vibration control device.

  • For the large space buildings since 1960s in Korea spanned more than 30m, the establishment feature and the development process were examined. As the Results, physical facilities with 40-70m span were mainly established in 1980s-1990s, but large scale convention centers have been establishing after 2000s as the used of large space buildings are varied. Also, a space frame has been generally used in 1980s while the unique structural shapes were builded in the early age(1960s), the structural design with concerns a form and using various structural systems have been attempting after 2000s.
