Since one decade, the detection of HFPD (High frequency Partial Discharge) has been proposed as one of the effective method for the diagnosis of the power component under service in power grids. As a tool for HFPD detection, Metal Foil sensor based on the embedded technology has been commercialized for mainly power cable due to its advantages. Recently, for the on-site noise discrimination, several PA (Pulse analysis) methods have been reported and the related software, such as Neural Network and Fuzzy, have been proposed to separate the PD (Partial Discharge) signals from the noises since their wave shapes are completely different from each other. On the other hand, the relevant fundamental investigation has not yet clearly made while it is reported that the effectiveness of the current methods based on PA is dependant on the types of sensors. Moreover, regarding the identification of the vital defects introducible into the Power Cable, the direct identification of the nature of defects from the PD signals through Metal Foil coupler has not yet been realized. As a trial for solving above shortcomings, different types of software have been proposed and employed without any convincing probability of identification. In this regards, our novel algorithm 'PA Map' based on the pulse analysis is suggested to identify directly the defects inside the power cable from the HFPD signals which is output of the HFCT and metal foil sensors. This method enables to discriminate the noise and then to make the data analysis related to the PD signals. For the purpose, the HFPD detection and PA (Pulse Analysis) system have been developed and then the effect of noise discrimination has been investigated by use of the artificial defects using real scale mockup. Throughout these works, our system is proved to be capable of separating the small void discharges among the very large noises such as big air corona and ground floating discharges at the on-site as well as of identifying the concerned defects.

The response of the CCCma coupled climate model to the imposition of LGM conditions is investigated. The global mean SAT and SST decrease by about $10^{\circ}C$ and $5.6^{\circ}C$ in the coupled model. Tropical SST decreases by $6.5^{\circ}C$, whereas CLIMAP reconstructions suggest that the tropics cool by only about $1.7^{\circ}C$, although the larger tropical cooling is consistent with the more recent proxy estimates. With the incorporation of a full ocean component, the coupled model gives a realistic spatial SST pattern, capturing features associated with ocean dynamics that are seen in the CLIMAP reconstructions. The larger decrease of the surface temperature in the model is associated with a reduction in global precipitation rate (about 15%). The tropical Pacific warm pool retreats to the west and a mean La $Ni\tilde{n}a$-like response is simulated with less precipitation over the central Pacific and more in the western tropical Pacific. The more arid ocean climate in the LGM results in an increase in SSS almost everywhere. This is particularly the case in the Arctic Ocean where large SSS increase is due to a decrease in river discharge to the Arctic Ocean associated with the accumulation of snow over the ice sheet, but in the North Atlantic by contrast SSS decreases markedly. This remarkable reduction of SSS in the North Atlantic is attributed to an increase in fresh water supply by an increase in discharges from the Mississippi and Amazon rivers and an increase in P-E over the North Atlantic ocean itself. The discharges increase in association with the wetter LGM climate south of the Laurentide ice sheet and in South America. The fresh water capping of the northern North Atlantic results in a marked reduction of deep convection and consequently a marked weakening of the North Atlantic overturning circulation. In the LGM, the maximum overturning stream function associated with the NADW formation decreases by about 60% relative to the control run, while in the Southern Ocean, oceanic convection is stronger in the LGM due to reduced stratification associated with an increase in SSS and a decrease in SST and the overturning stream function associated with the formation of AABW and the outflow increases substantially.

Corona on polymer materials causes deterioration by the combined action of the discharge striking the surface and the action of certain chemical compounds that are formed by the discharges. In the design and manufacture of polymer insulators must be sufficiently large to avoid corona discharges, otherwise a shielding or corona ring (grading ring) needs to be installed on the insulator. To conduct this purpose, many researchers have investigated end-fitting of polymer insulator by voltage distribution simulation and electrical test. Grading rings are used to improve the performance of the insulator in multiple ways. They can reduce corona and associated audible noise and radio influence and television interference. The factors determining the uses of a grading ring are line voltage, geometry and dimensions of end fittings, geometry and dimensions of line hardware, and environmental conditions. In this paper, electrical property of polymer insulator with end-fitting design have been investigated by electrical field analysis, various end-fitting design, tracking wheel test, corona inception voltage and extinction voltage. Electrical field analysis is conducted by FEM program and various end-fitting is designed through this result. Designed end-fittings are manufactured and their performance is conducted by electrical performance test.

Accurate river discharge is the most important factor in managing river basins and for successfully maintaining total maximum daily loads in Korea. It is not easy to measure the discharge directly in large rivers owing to physical and environmental constraints, even after investing much time and money. Recently, to overcome these historical drawbacks in river discharge measurement, we have developed the Automatic Discharge Acquisition & Management System (ADAMS) that scans the river cross-section and measures each cell $(1m{\times}1m)$ velocity using HADCP. The hardware system is composed of an HADCP sensor and winch, as well as a PC and software system for the discharge calculation module and hardware control module. It is controlled remotely via the internet and uses the velocity-depth integration method and the velocity-contour method for calculating river discharges. The characteristics of ADAMS are a ubiquitously accessible system, featuring real time automatic discharge measurement, remote control via the internet. The results using ADAMS at the Jindong stage site show less than 5% uncertainty and are 4 times more efficient than the ADCP & Q-boat system. This system can be used to measure any large river, river mouth or tributary river affected by backwater, all of which have a very difficult measuring real time discharge. The next generation of ADAMS will feature an upgrade to increase portability and GPS integration.
80pF capacitive couplers were connected to six 6.6kV motor model coil terminals. The voltage applied to the coils were 3.81kv, 4.76 kV and 6.6kV, respectively. These stator coils have various types of artificial insulation defects such as large voids, semi-conductive coating damage and strand insulation fault. Digital PD detector(PDD) and turbine generator analyzer(TGA) were used to measure PD activity. TGA summarizes each plot with two quantities such as the normalized quantity number(NQN) and the peak PD magnitude(Qm). The PD levels in PD were measured with a conventional digital PD detector. Most of the defect mechanism of large motor stator winding can be associated with PD patterns such as internal and slot discharges. PD patterns coincide with PDD and TGA. These instruments have an input bandwidth of 40-400kHz and 0.1-350MHz. Surge testing detects faults in inter-turn winding of high voltage motor model coils.
The peak flood discharge at a downstream station and the flood travel time between a pair of dams due to a specific flood release from the upper reservoir are computed using a hydraulic river channel routing method. The study covered the whole large reservoir system in the Han River, Korea. The computed flood discharges and the travel times between dams were correlated with the duration and the magnitude of flood release rate at the upstream reservoir, and hence a multiple regression model is proposed for each river reach between a pair of dams. The peak flood discharge at a downstream location can be converted to the peak flood stage by a rating curve. Hence, the proposed regression model could be used to forecast the peak flood stage at a downstream location and the flood travel time between dams using the information on the flood travel time, release rate and duration from the upper dam.

This study describes the characteristics of concentrations of pollutants such as tolal nitrogen(T-N), total phosphrous(T-P), and chemical oxgen demand(COD) at paddy areas during 2-year dry irrigation periods. Most of pollutants concentrations in drainage water are lower than those in irrigation water after early July due to large uptake of pollutants by rice crop and denitrification. For drainage water, the concentrations of pollutants are constant irrespective of discharges and the average T-N/T-P ratios water range from 14 to 44, suggesting that phosphrous is limiting.

The ion energy and angle distributions (IEADs) in the DC magnetron sputtering systems are investigated for the variation of gas pressure using particle-in-cell simulation. Even for the condition of collisionless ion sheath at low pressure, it is possible to change the IEAD significantly with the change of gas pressure. The bombarding ions to the target with low energy and large incident angle are observed at low pressure when the sheath voltage drop is low. It is because the electron transport is hindered by the magnetic field at low pressure because of few collisions per electron gyromotion while the ions are not magnetized. Therefore, the space charge effect is the most dominant factor for the determination of IEADs in low-pressure magnetron sputtering discharges.
The research for detecting of insulating deterioration in transformer has been studied from long ago. Analysis method of combustible gas, which is included in insulating oil, has been widely used in detection of transformer pre-fault detection due to the effectiveness of its method. Recently the fault effect of the large transformer is very critical in a power system, therefore the on-line monitoring and diagnostic system is needed. In addition, the more accurate method of detecting a Partial Discharge (PD) location should be developed. For preventive maintenance against discharge failures, it is important not only to detect the discharges, but also to accurately estimate their positions. However ...

Dielectric Barrier Discharges (DBD) in oxygen and air are well established for the production of large quantities of ozone and are more recently being applied to a wider range of after treatment processes for HAPs(Hazardous Air Pollutants). The potential use as a charger for particle collection are not well known. In this work, we measured charge distribution of nanometer or submicron sized particles passing through the dielectric barrier discharge reactor. The bipolar charge characteristics of particles passing DBD reactor were investigated. Fluorometric method using uranine particles and a fluorometer was employed to examine the bipolar charging characteristics of the charged particles by DBD reactor. Finally, the charge distributions of particles were determined from the electrical mobility classification using DMA.
