Investigation of the High Cycle Fatigue Crack of the Gas Turbine Compressor Blade Using Finite Element Analysis (유한요소해석을 이용한 가스터빈 압축기 블레이드 피로균열 해석)

  • A gas turbine consists of an upstream compressor and a downstream turbine with a combustion chamber, and also the compressor and the turbine are generally coupled using a single shaft. Large scale gas turbine compressor is designed as multi-stage axial flow and the blade is fan-type which is thick and wide. Recently radial cracking happens occasionally at the compressor blade tip of large scale gas turbine. So, FEM was performed on the compressor blade and vibration modes and dynamic stresses were analyzed. According to the analysis, 9th natural frequency mode of the blade, which is 2 strip mode, is near the vane passing frequency by the vane located at the upstream of the blade.

A study on the electrical characteristics of the fluorocarbon (Fluorocarbon의 전기적 특성연구)

  • In this paper, we investigated physical properties and electrical characteristics of the fluorocarbon that used as coolants for large power gas-insulated transformer. Volume resistivity of the fluorocarbon was .rho.=1.87*10$^{15}$ [.ohm.cm] at 1 atm, 27.deg. C. Dielectric constant was 1.86 and decreases as temperature increase. The breakdown voltage at 1 atm was higher than that of transformer oil. The breakdown voltage of fluorocarbon vapor was about 18kV when pressure in a test chamber increases over lkg/cm$^{2}$. When fluorocarbon was mixed with SF$_{6}$ gas, breakdown voltage of the mixed was higher than that of fluorocarbon. Then fluorocarbon leads to increase over 4kg/cm$^{2}$ in pressure as temperature increase. Therefore, when a gas-insulated transformer is manufactured, the design must be taken into consideration a high-pressure.

  • The The turbulent mixing characteristics of Kerosene-LOx in a coaxial swirl injector 100 bar have been numerically investigated. Turbulent model is based on large eddy simulation with real-fluid transport and thermodynamics. The effects of equation of state (EOS), chamber pressure are evaluated in a point of the mixing efficiency and pressure fluctuations. The dominant frequency is same as the hairpin vortex shedding frequency generated by film wave at the LOx post.

  • For the practical application of a YBCO superconductor bulk magnet, the superconductor bulk magnet with strong and stable magnetic field on a large area surface should be fabricated. To satisfy these requirements, we have designed a conduction-cooled bulk magnet system using six single grain YBCO bulk superconductors. Six rectangular-shaped YBCO bulk superconductors with a dimension of $38{\times}38{\times}15mm^3$ were field-cooled at 20 K using a superconductor magnet with maximum operating magnetic field of 4 T. The magnetic flux of 3.0 T and 2.8 T were achieved on the surface of bulk superconductors and over the vacuum chamber surface of the refrigerator, respectively.

  • A syringe pump or a device using high electric voltage has been used for controlling flows inside a LOC (lab-on-a-chip). Compared to LOC, however, these microfluidic devices are large and heavy that they are burdensome for a portable ${\mu}-TAS$ (micro total analysis system). In this study, a new flow control technique employing pressure regulators and pressure chambers was developed. This technique utilizes compressed air to control the micro-scale flow inside a LOC, instead of a mechanical actuator or an electric power supply. The pressure regulator controls the output air pressure by adjusting the variable resistor attached. We checked the feasibility of this system by measuring the flow rate inside a capillary tube of $100{\mu}m$ diameter in the Re numbers ranged from 0.5 to 50. In addition, the performance of this flow control system was compared with that of a conventional syringe pump. The developed flow control system was found to show superior performance, compared with the syringe pump. It maintains automatically the: air pressure inside a pressure chamber whether the flow inside the capillary tube is on or off. Since the flow rate is nearly proportional to the resistance, we can control flow in multiple microchannels precisely. However, the syringe pump shows large variation of flow rate when the fluid flow is blocked in the microchannel.

  • The ISO standard specifies the diameter of the gas introducing tube to be definitely 1/10 of the chamber inner diameter of the standard test dome which is used for evaluating the performance of vacuum pumps. Because the inner diameter of the test chamber should not be less than the intake diameter of the vacuum pump, the tube diameter would be even 100 mm if fitting to a very large vacuum pump. Though such a thick tube can be accommodated in a large test dome, it is worthful to investigate whether a thicker tube is helpful or adverse for making more accurate measurements. In this paper it is discussed if there is an optimum tube diameter by comparing the isotropicity of particles emanating from the tube and that of particles entering the orifice.

Paenibacillus elgii SD17 as a Biocontrol Agent Against Soil-borne Turf Diseases

  • Paenibacillus elgii SD17 (KCTC $10016BP^T$=NBRC $100335^T$) was recently reported as a new species. Based on its inhibitory activity to Thanatephorus cucumeris AG1-1, strain SD17 was further evaluated for its potential as a biocontrol agent against soil-borne diseases of turf grasses in Korea. P. elgii SD17 showed a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity in vitro test and suppressed development of turf grass diseases; Pythium blight caused by Pythium aphanidermatum and brown patch caused by T. cucumeris AG1-1 on creeping bentgrass (Agrostis palustris) in the growth chamber tests. Under a condition for massive culture in a 5,000 L fermenter, P. elgii SD17 reached $6.4{\times}10^8$ spores/ml that resulted in approximately $1.0{\times}10^7$ cfu/g when formulated into a granule formulation (GR) using the whole culture broth instead of water. Using the GR formulation, biocontrol activity of P. elgii SD17 was confirmed. In the growth chamber tests, the GR formulation was effective against brown patch and Pythium blight with similar level of disease severity compared to each of the standard fungicides at the application rates of 10 g/$m^2$ or above. In the field tests, compared to each untreated control, the GR formulation also effectively controlled Pythium blight, brown patch and large patch at all the application rates of 5, 10 and 20 g/$m^2$, respectively, without significant response by the application rates. However its performance was inferior to each of the standard chemical fungicides. Based on these results, we consider this GR formulation of P. elgii SD17 as an effective biocontol agent to suppress Pythium blight, brown patch and large patch of turf grasses in Korea.

Inspecting Stablity of DSM method with Grouting on Tunnel Face using Chamber Test and Numericlal Analysis (토조실험과 수치해석을 이용한 막장면 그라우팅 DSM공법의 안정성 검토)

  • In urban areas, underground tunnel construction sites have spread widely to accommodate rapidly increasing traffic volume along with a high-degree economic growth. Earth tunneling might be adapted frequently for the underground space securing, and various tunneling methods have been developed to stabilize the tunnel face and crown. Among them, the DSM (divided shield method) is gaining popularity for its enhanced stability and construction efficiency. This method has its foundation from the Messer Shield method, which is one of the trenchless special tunneling methods. This study examined the effects of face reinforcement on construction the sequence through a large scale soil chamber test and numerical analyses. The chamber has a size of a 1/2 scale of the real tunnel. Surface settlements were measured according the tunneling process. Commercially available software, MIDAS GTS, was used for numerical analysis and its result was compared with the values obtained from the chamber test. The results of the study show that both settlements of the embanked soils and the stress of the tunnel girder are located within the safe criteria. Overall, this study provides basic data and the potential of using a reinforced tunnel face to enhance DSM applications.

  • COMS (Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite) is a geostationary satellite and developed by KARl for communication, ocean and meteorological observations. It will be tested under vacuum and very low temperature conditions in order to verify thermal design of COMS. The test will be performed by using KARI large thermal vacuum chamber, which was developed by KARI, and the COMS will be the first flight satellite tested in this chamber. The purposes of thermal balance test are to correlate analytical model used for design evaluation and predicting temperatures, and to verify and adjust thermal control concept. KARI has plan to use heating plates to simulate space hot condition especially for radiator panels of satellite such as north and south panels. They will be controlled from 90 K to 273 K by circulating GN2 and LN2 alternatively according to the test phases, while the main shroud of the vacuum chamber will be under constant temperature, 90 K, during all thermal balance test. This paper presents thermal modelling including test chamber, heating plates and the satellite without solar array wing and Ka-band reflectors and discusses temperature prediction during thermal balance test.

  • This article considered generally gradational change aspect, character of community for the tombs of the Three kingdoms prepared by some certain homogenous groups. It was completed by tracing the transfering process to grasp character of social structure and organizing System in the community. For this reason, it's analyzed that Wooden chamber tomb was formed in some certain Time-Space of the Yaksadong Buk-dong archaeological site in the Three Kingdom Period. Constructed group was distinguished by the five classes. So perhaps scale of Wooden chamber and sort, material of burial relics, the top layer and the upper layer were established two status those are active the ruling class led the Wooden chamber tomb's society, the general public hold a large majority from the middle class to the lowest class. And it depends on age(nonage-adult) that differed in relation of arrangement, character. It's changed with function or roles, property, purpose etc. of social community in accordance with these individual position, age. Received signification, value of social status were considered with social worth, faith. Members in a community had been conducted under premeditated, organised system for common target, relatedness. Also it seems to attempt organization's own maintenance, persistiveness in norms that given at common law. To do that, relation for combination between members who consisted systems had to be organic. The relation for combination was considered to form relation for the much larger community in based on blood relationship that most vital part. One social structure had established family(house, household) community in based on individual blood relationship, family communities gather up to develop into relative(blood relative, same race) community gradually. Furthermore, relative(blood relative, same race) communities, that focus on the public good gather up to develop into social community in based on regionalism. It's considered to go through the Development Process of family(house, household) community - relative(blood relative, same race) community - social community.
