Drought Monitoring for Paddy Fields Using Satellite-derived Evaporative Stress Index (위성영상기반 증발스트레스지수를 활용한 필지단위 논 가뭄 모니터링)

  • Drought monitoring over paddy field area is an important role as the frequency and intensity of drought due to climate change increases. This study analyzed the applicability of drought monitoring on paddy crops using MODIS-based field surveys. As a satellite-based drought index using evapotranspiration for quantitative drought determination, ESI (Evaporative Stress Index), was applied and calculated through the ratio of MODIS- based actual and potential evapotranspiration. For the irrigated areas of Idong, Gosam, Geumgwang, and Madun reservoirs the availability of irrigation water supply, ponding depth, precipitation, paddy growth were investigated for the paddy field within one grid of MODIS. In addition, the percentile-based ESI drought severity was calculated to compare the growth process of paddy and changes in the drought category of ESI. The Idong area was irrigated about a week later than other reservoirs for the period of water supply, transplanting, and water drainage and the ESI drought category tended to be different. The Gosam, Geumgwang, and Madun area expressed moderate drought prior to the farming season, and indicated normal as the water was supplied. During the water drainage, the drought category intensified, indicating that the water available on land was decreasing. These results demonstrated that the MODIS-based ESI could be an effective tool for agricultural drought monitoring over paddy field area.

Development of Precise Vectorizing Tools for Digitization of Cadastral Maps (지적도면 수치화를 위한 정밀 벡터라이징 도구 개발)

  • Cadastral map is the basic data that prescribe a lot number, the classification of land category, a boundary and ownerships of the parcels. Because the analogue cadastral map is not appropriate for the Parcel Based Land Information System, computerization of cadastral map is needed. When considering other automatic vectorizing softwares, we conclude that they can not satisfy the accuracy needed in cadastral map. Also screen digitizing methods demand lots of time. So we developed semi-automatic vectorizing program that realized almost capacities, such as overlay display which is needed for screen digitizing , window link, vector file generation , and so forth. As comparing screen digitizing method using AutoCAD with our developed program, we could obtain not only almost same accuracy , but also 35 minute reduction in vectorizing.

Assessment of REDD+ Suitable Area for Sustainable Forest Management in Paraguay

  • This study extracted deforestation area and degraded forestland area, which are potential REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) project candidate areas in Paraguay using Land Cover Map (LCM) and Tree Cover Map (TCM). The REDD+ project objectives scenarios were set three stages: 'afforestation and economic efficiency scenario', 'local capacity reinforcement scenario', and 'Infrastructure-oriented scenario'. And then, we evaluated the project unit suitable area of the REDD+ project. All scenarios selected the evaluation factors for each scenario in addition to the area ratio factors for deforestation area and degraded forestland area and weighted values were extracted by assigning category scores. As a result of the three scenarios comparison analysis, Concepcion state score was the highest. Within Concepcion state, the Belon district had the highest score, making it appropriate as a project unit REDD+ project candidate area in Paraguay, while the San Carlos district had the lowest score. This study can be used as basic data for selecting REDD+ project candidate area in Paraguay, and it is expected to contribute sufficiently to REDD+ project if additional data or information of social, cultural and economic sectors are secured.

Feasibility of Forest Land Conversion to Other Use by Considering Forest Fragmentation (산지전용타당성조사제도에서 산림파편화지수의 고려방안 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze impacts of the forest fragmentation caused by development project. Furthermore, to investigate the applicability of landscape indicator when 'Feasibility of forest land conversion to other use' is conducted. The study site was consisted of golf course development and road construction. It is to compare before and after impacts of areal and linear development. As for the methods, selecting landscape indices, clustered into 3 Categories have been utilized. Category I was concerned with 'size of forest patches', II as 'shape of forest patches', and III as 'Core Area' These were calculated by FRAGSTATS, the program for analyzing fragmentation. The results showed that linear development caused more fragmented than areal development projects. Also, patch size, patch shape and core area are related to impacts of development, while Patch size decreased, patch shape and core area increased after development. Therefore, it is necessary to minimize the impacts of forest by considering fragmentation when development project is planned.

Role Transition from Clinical Nurse to Case Manager for Medical-aid Beneficiaries: Taking Root in a Barren Land (임상간호사에서 의료급여관리사로의 역할 전이 과정: '척박한 땅에 뿌리내리기')

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explain the role transition process to nurse case managers (NCMs) for Medical-aid beneficiaries in Korea. Methods: Fourteen NCMs were interviewed regarding their experiences of becoming proficient in the new role of case manger. Data were analyzed through the application of grounded theory. Results: 'Taking root in a barren land' was the core category explaining the role transition process of NCMs. They engaged in four stages: launching, trial and error, proficiency, and wait-and-see stages. NCMs showed not only fear but also passion for case management practice. Despite their passion and effort, NCMs went through a period of trial and error. After becoming skilled, NCMs went through a stage of wait-and-see often because of job insecurity related to temporary position or few opportunities for promotion. Factors influencing NCMs' role transition process included their understanding of client characteristics, belief in case management, and support from their colleagues and families. Conclusion: NCMs experience many challenges in the process of becoming proficient NCMs. To help with their role transition, there is a need for education programs, preceptorship programs, research on their roles and functions, and regulation for securing NCMs' employment and career stability.

A Study on the Factors Related to the Seafood Preference of Elementary School Children

  • This study was undertaken with 237 fifth grade children to investigate the factors, affecting the seafood prefrerence of elementary school children as one of the approaches to find strategies to promote these children's acceptance of seafoods. Subjects for this study were from one public elementary school under meal service located each in Boryeoung-city Chungcheongna Co (coastal area) and Chelowon gen Gangwon do land locked area) The preferences for than those in Boryeong and differences in may items were significant Among four area gender groups girls in Cheolwon had the lowest preference for most seafood items except cephalocoda for which the preference of body in Cheolwon was the lowest Making soup was the least preferred method to cook fish regardless of gender and area, while grilling was the most or the second most preferred in each gender area group Compared to girls bodys had a higher preference for deep frying The seafood preferences of mothers in both areas were similar to those of their children except for processed seafoods which were even more preferred by the children than mothers. Gender, distance from the sea and the method of preparation/cooking seemed to affect the children's preference more than their mother's preference and frequency of serving in the case of seafood. And the effect of gender distance from the sea and cooking methods differed for each seafood category The several suggestions to improve seafood preference especially in land locked area are discussed.

Factors influencing young farmers' choice of the farm diversification (청년농업인의 영농다각화 활동 선택 결정요인 분석)

  • Securing manpower in rural areas is critical to improving the productive potential and overcome challenges caused by changes in the demographic structure and the need for diversification of the rural economy. This underpins the importance of nurturing young farmers in order to enhance the agricultural competitiveness in the rural areas. On the other hand, 42.3% of young farmers under the age of 40, which is the target age of the government-sponsored program to foster young farmers, grow rice. Meanwhile, 42.3% of the farmers are under 40 years of age which is a category of farmers targeted under the government sponsored program to advance rice production. In this study, a bivariate probit model is used to conduct substantive analysis on the potential political interventions that would persuade young farmers in the rural areas to participate in rice production in the 6th industry. In summary, most important factors identified as to influence participation of young farmers in the diversification of crop production are the utilization of information device, land, ownership of agricultural machinery, and the leasing of the cultivating land.

A Study on Land Cover Map of UAV Imagery using an Object-based Classification Method (객체기반 분류기법을 이용한 UAV 영상의 토지피복도 제작 연구)

  • The study of ecosystem assessment(ES) is based on land cover information, and primarily it is performed at the global scale. However, these results as data for decision making have a limitation at the aspects of range and scale to solve the regional issue. Although the Ministry of Environment provides available land cover data at the regional scale, it is also restricted in use due to the intrinsic limitation of on screen digitizing method and temporal and spatial difference. This study of objective is to generate UAV land cover map. In order to classify the imagery, we have performed resampling at 5m resolution using UAV imagery. The results of object-based image segmentation showed that scale 20 and merge 34 were the optimum weight values for UAV imagery. In the case of RapidEye imagery;we found that the weight values;scale 30 and merge 30 were the most appropriate at the level of land cover classes for sub-category. We generated land cover imagery using example-based classification method and analyzed the accuracy using stratified random sampling. The results show that the overall accuracies of RapidEye and UAV classification imagery are each 90% and 91%.

Automatic Generation of Land Cover Map Using Residual U-Net (Residual U-Net을 이용한 토지피복지도 자동 제작 연구)

  • Land cover maps are derived from satellite and aerial images by the Ministry of Environment for the entire Korea since 1998. Even with their wide application in many sectors, their usage in research community is limited. The main reason for this is the map compilation cycle varies too much over the different regions. The situation requires us a new and quicker methodology for generating land cover maps. This study was conducted to automatically generate land cover map using aerial ortho-images and Landsat 8 satellite images. The input aerial and Landsat 8 image data were trained by Residual U-Net, one of the deep learning-based segmentation techniques. Study was carried out by dividing three groups. First and second group include part of level-II (medium) categories and third uses group level-III (large) classification category defined in land cover map. In the first group, the results using all 7 classes showed 86.6 % of classification accuracy The other two groups, which include level-II class, showed 71 % of classification accuracy. Based on the results of the study, the deep learning-based research for generating automatic level-III classification was presented.

Changes of Landuse for Eight Years(1999~2007) in Greenbelt Area, Seoul (서울시 개발제한구역 8년간(1999~2007년) 토지이용 변화 연구)

  • This study was to analyze changes of landuse and environmental value of cultivate land for eight years from 1999 to 2007 year in greenbelt area, Seoul. Greenbelt area decreased from $166.82\;km^2$ in 1999 to $156.50\;km^2$ in 2007 according to removal policy. Regarding landuse status in 2007, forest field area accounted for 64.16 %, dry paddy area 4.10 %, facilitated farming area 3.82 %, rice paddy area 2.95 % out of total greenbelt area. Cultivate land occupied wide spaces with dry paddy area, facilitated farming area, tree nursery in Seocho-gu, Gangnam-gu and Gangdong-gu. Changes of landuse were serious in Seocho-gu. The trend of changes of landuse for eight years is that rice paddy area was changed dry paddy area by laying the ground and dry paddy area was changed facilitated farming area for intensive agriculture. Rice paddy area could change without permission by laying the ground in below 50 cm height and it was changed to green houses due to increase in profit and modern policy of agriculture. It is nessary to monitor landuse regularly, improve regulation for change of landuse, compensate a property loss for maintaining environmental value in greenbelt area.
