  • HDR(high dynamic range) imaging techniques supports wider dynamic range than normal images captured from general still camera. These usually need several shots to obtain LDR(low dynamic range) images, causing ghosting artifacts. Accordingly, this paper suggests a method to generate new LDR images from a single Bayer image using Exposure LUT(look-up table) by considering channel dependency. We prior construct exposure LUT for each RGB channel, showing the relationship between input and average output luminance values. In the process, by applying the average luminance of input image and current exposure to LUT, new exposures which are determined by user choice are first estimated. Next, LDR images which are corresponded to new exposures are generated based on each LUT. Saturated areas are improved by considering channel dependency in the last procedure. In the experimental comparison, high PSNR values are obtained between estimated and captured images. Also, we have similar appearance on displayed images.

  • The role of radiology department has been greatly increased in the past few years as the technology in the medical imaging devices improved and the introduction of PACS (Picture Archiving and Communications System) to the conventional film-based diagnostic structure is a truly remarkable factor to the medical history. In addition, the value of using digital information in medical imaging is highly expected to grow as the technology over the computer and the network improves. However, the current medical practice, using PACS is somewhat limited compared to the film-based conventional one due to a poor image quality. The image quality is the most important and inevitable factor in the PACS environment and it is one of the most necessary steps to more wide practice of digital imaging. The existing image quality control tools are limited in controlling images produced from the medical modalities, because they cannot display the real image changing status. Thus, the image quality is distorted and the ability to diagnosis becomes hindered compared to the one of the film-based practice. In addition, the workflow of the radiologist greatly increases; as every doctor has to perform his or her own image quality control every time they view images produced from the medical modalities. To resolve these kinds of problems and enhance current medical practice under the PACS environment, we have developed a program to display a better image quality by using the ROI optical density of the existing gray level values. When the LUT is used properly, small detailed regions, which cannot be seen by using the existing image quality controls are easily displayed and thus, greatly improves digital medical practice. The purpose of this study is to provide an easier medical practice to physicians, by applying the technology of converting the H-D curves of the analog film screen to the digital imaging technology and to preset image quality control values to each exposed body part, modality and group of physicians for a better and easier medical practice. We have asked to 5 well known professional physicians to compare image quality of the same set of exam by using the two different methods: existing image quality control and the LUT technology. As the result, the LUT technology was enormously favored over the existing image quality control method. All the physicians have pointed out the far more superiority of the LUT over the existing image quality control method and highly praised its ability to display small detailed regions, which cannot be displayed by existing image quality control tools. Two physicians expressed the necessity of presetting the LUT values for each exposed body part. Overall, the LUT technology yielded a great interest among the physicians and highly praised for its ability to overcome currently embedded problems of PACS. We strongly believe that the LUT technology can enhance the current medical practice and open a new beginning in the future medical imaging.

  • This paper proposes new block fragile watermarking for image authentication and integrity by using the existing pixel-based scheme and block-based scheme. The proposed scheme is performed as fellows. First, we choose LUT(Look Up Table) from each pixel of original image and information of the corresponding block. Next, we insert a watermark, modifying original image with values to compare binary original image with the watermark to be embedded. As a result, we provide the means to overcome some weakness of the existing scheme. Binary logo as watermark can be detected from watermarked image and altered location can also be detected by the unit of pixel or that of block in our scheme.

  • Colon cancer (CRC) is a serious health problem throughout the world. Development of novel drugs without side effects for this cancer is crucial. Luteolin (LUT), a bioflavonoid, has many beneficial effects such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative potential. was a potent chemical carcinogen used for the induction of colon cancer. Colon carcinogenesis was initiated by intraperitoneal injection of azoxymethane (AOM) to mice at the dose of 15 mg/body kg weight in Balb/C mice for 3 weeks. Mice were treated with LUT at the dose of 1.2 mg/body kg weight orally. Mitochondrial enzymes such as isocitrate dehydrogenase (ICDH), ${\alpha}$-keto dehydrogenase (${\alpha}$-KDH), succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) and the activities of respiratory chain enzymes NADH dehydrogenase and cytochrome c oxidase were found to be elevated in AOM-treated animals. Treatment with LUT decreased the activities of all the parameters significantly. Hence, LUT might be a potent anticancer agent against colorectal cancer.

  • This paper proposes a PMSM torque control method considering DC-link voltage variation and friction torque. In general EV/HEV application, two dimensions look-up table(2D-LUT) is used for reference current generation due to its stable and robust torque control performance. Conventionally, this 2D-LUT is established by flux-torque table to overcome the DC-link voltage variation. However, the flux table establishment is more complex than the speed table establishment. Moreover, one flux data reflects several speed conditions in variable DC-link voltage, friction torque cannot be considered by using the flux table. In this paper, speed-torque 2D-LUT is used for current reference generation. With this table, PMSM torque control is well achieved regardless of DC-link voltage variation by the proposed control method. Simulation and experimental results validate improvement of torque control error through friction torque compensation.

  • In this paper, a new approach is proposed for the efficient generation of computer-generated holograms (CGHs) using the spatially redundant data on a 3D object and the novel look-up table (N-LUT) method. First, the pre-calculated N-point principle fringe patterns (PFPs) were calculated using the 1-point PFP of the N-LUT. Second, spatially redundant data on a 3D object were extracted and re-grouped into the N-point redundancy map using the run-length encoding (RLE) method. Then CGH patterns were generated using the spatial redundancy map and the N-LUT method. Finally, the generated hologram patterns were reconstructed. In this approach, the object points that were involved in the calculation of the CGH patterns were dramatically reduced, due to which the computational speed was increased. Some experiments with a test 3D object were carried out and the results were compared with those of conventional methods.

  • The Davey-MacKay construction is a promising concatenated coding scheme involving an outer $2^k$-ary code and an inner code of rate k/n, for insertion-deletion-substitution channels. Recently, a lookup table (LUT)-based inner decoder for this coding scheme was proposed to reduce the computational complexity of the inner decoder, albeit at the expense of a slight degradation in word error rate (WER) performance. In this letter, we show that negligible deterioration in WER performance can be achieved with an LUT as small as $7{\cdot}2^{k+n-1}$, but no smaller, when the probability of receiving less than n-1 or greater than n+1 bits corresponding to one outer code symbol is at least an order of magnitude smaller than the WER when no LUT is used.

  • Recently, the flatbed scanner is widely used to input color original copy in printing industry. In the process of RGB-to-CMY transformation for the scanned colors using the look-up table(LUT) based on the color gamut of the actual output device, however, the problem that some colors in the original out of the gamut cannot be printed, may occur. In this study, another color transformation method applicable to any kind of originals using the new LUT with extended gamut based on the ideal output device, was examined and proposed.
