  • One of the subjects in clouds' structure and development is small scale structure of interstellar cloud. The possibility of AU scale structure (Marscher et al. 1993; Moore & Marscher 1995; Roy et al. 2012) is discussed, and this small scale structure is considered as the result of hydrogen volume density (Moore & Marscher 1995), or small-scale chemical and other inhomogeneities (Liszt & Lucas 2000). In order to study this subject with emission line, extremely high resolution is mandatory by VLBI system. However, the alternative method could be observing the absorption line of interstellar cloud on the continuum object. In this case, the resolution would be restricted to the size of the continuum object, if the size of the object is smaller than the resolution of a used telescope. We observed the previous researchers' three objects (BLLAC, NRAO150, B0528+138), whose spectrums are changed from 1993 to 1998 (Liszt & Lucas 2000), with KVN. Through KVN observation, we found the changes of optical depth spectrum compared with the previous spectrums. We will discuss the optical depth spectrum variation by time variation and the meaning of it.

  • In this paper we present another characterization of (${\pm}1$)-invariant sequences. We also introduce truncated Fibonacci and Lucas sequences of the second kind and show that a sequence $x\;{\in}\;R^{\infty}$ is (-1)-invariant(l-invariant resp.) if and only if $D[_x^0]$ is perpendicular to every truncated Fibonacci(truncated Lucas resp.) sequence of the second kind where $$D=diag((-1)^0,\; (-1)^1,\;(-1)^2,{\ldots})$$.

  • Natural disasters such as a ground collapse and a landslide have broken out due to the climate change of the Korea and the reckless expansion of cities and roads. The climate changes and the reckless urbanization have made the ground weak. Thus, it is important to keep a close eye on the highly weakened landslide and to prevent its natural disasters. In order to prevent these disasters, this paper presents a system of recognizing the road slide condition by measuring the displacements using laser scanner instrument. The previous system of monitoring the road slide has some problems as inaccurate recognition due to using only images from a camera, or expensive system such as artificial satellites and aircraft systems. To solve this problem, our proposed system uses the 3D range data from the laser scanner for measuring the accurate displacement of the road slide and optical flows from the Lucas-Kanade algorithm for recognizing the road slide in the image.

  • We consider the extended generalized Hecke groups ${\bar{H}}_{3,q}$ generated by $X(z)=-(z-1)^{-1}$, $Y(z)=-(z+{\lambda}_q)^{-1}$ with ${\lambda}_q=2\;cos({\frac{\pi}{q}})$ where $q{\geq}3$ an integer. In this work, we study the generalized Pell sequences in ${\bar{H}}_{3,q}$. Also, we show that the entries of the matrix representation of each element in the extended generalized Hecke Group ${\bar{H}}_{3,3}$ can be written by using Pell, Pell-Lucas and modified-Pell numbers.

  • In this study, we have proposed a pre-processing algorithm newly developed for improving the tracking efficiency of the optical flow method. The developed pre-processing algorithm consists of a median filter, binarization, morphology, canny edge, contour detecting and an approximation method. In order to evaluate whether the optical flow tracking capacity increases, this study applied the pre-processing algorithm to the Lucas-Kanade(LK) optical flow algorithm, and comparatively analyzed its images and tracking results with those of optical flow without the pre-processing algorithm and with the existing pre-processing algorithm(composed of median filter and histogram equalization). As a result, it was observed that the tracking performance derived from the LK optical flow algorithm with the pre-processing algorithm, shows better tracking accuracy, compared to the one without the pre-processing algorithm and the one with the existing pre-processing algorithm. It seems to have resulted by successful segmentation for characteristic areas and subdivision into inner and outer contour lines.

  • Objective: This study was conducted to provide models to accurately predict nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) excretion of dairy cows on smallholder farms in Indonesia based on readily available farm data. Methods: The generic model in this study is based on the principles of the Lucas equation, describing the relation between dry matter intake (DMI) and faecal N excretion to predict the quantity of faecal N (QFN). Excretion of urinary N and faecal P were calculated based on National Research Council recommendations for dairy cows. A farm survey was conducted to collect input parameters for the models. The data set was used to calibrate the model to predict QFN for the specific case. The model was validated by comparing the predicted quantity of faecal N with the actual quantity of faecal N (QFNACT) based on measurements, and the calibrated model was compared to the Lucas equation. The models were used to predict N and P excretion of all 144 dairy cows in the data set. Results: Our estimate of true N digestibility equalled the standard value of 92% in the original Lucas equation, whereas our estimate of metabolic faecal N was -0.60 g/100 g DMI, with the standard value being -0.61 g/100 g DMI. Results of the model validation showed that the R2 was 0.63, the MAE was 15 g/animal/d (17% from QFNACT), and the RMSE was 20 g/animal/d (22% from QFNACT). We predicted that the total N excretion of dairy cows in Indonesia was on average 197 g/animal/d, whereas P excretion was on average 56 g/animal/d. Conclusion: The proposed models can be used with reasonable accuracy to predict N and P excretion of dairy cattle on smallholder farms in Indonesia, which can contribute to improving manure management and reduce environmental issues related to nutrient losses.

  • In this paper, we propose an Active Shape Model (ASM) and Lucas-Kanade (LK) optical flow-based feature extraction and analysis method for analyzing the emotional features from facial images. Considering the facial emotion feature regions are described by Facial Action Coding System, we construct the feature-related shape models based on the combination of landmarks and extract the LK optical flow vectors at each landmarks based on the centre pixels of motion vector window. The facial emotion features are modelled by the combination of the optical flow vectors and the emotional states of facial image can be estimated by the probabilistic estimation technique, such as Bayesian classifier. Also, we extract the optimal emotional features that are considered the high correlation between feature points and emotional states by using common spatial pattern (CSP) analysis in order to improvise the operational efficiency and accuracy of emotional feature extraction process.

  • As the production of small quadcopter drones has diversified and multi-sensors have been installed in FC due to the spread of MCU capable of high-speed processing, small drones that can perform special-purpose operations rather than simple operations have been realized. Hovering, attitude control, and position movement control were possible through the IMU in the FC mounted on the drone, but control is not easy when GPS connection and video communication are not possible in a closed building with a complex structure. In this study, when encountering an obstacle with a change in altitude in such a space, we proposed a method to overcome the obstacle and perform autonomous flight using optical flow and IR sensors using the Lucas-Kanade method. Through experiments, the drone's altitude flight on stairs that replace the complex structure of a closed space with stable hovering motion has a success rate of 98% within the tolerance of 10 [cm] due to external influences, and reliable autonomous flight up and down is achieved.
