The steel outfitting structures installed in engine room are vibrated by an excitation of the engine and the propeller. Vibration problems such as cracks and fitting breakages are mainly induced at the near range of the resonance. The excitation frequency estimation is possible by engines and propeller specifications, but the natural frequency of a steel outfitting structure is not easily estimated due to the complication and variety of the designed shape. This paper represents natural frequency data of simple steel outfitting structures. As a vibration analysis tool, MSC/NASTRAN was used to calculate natural frequencies. Natural frequencies were compared in case of the shape and boundary condition changes of simple models, and anti-vibration models of the steel outfitting structures were presented on the basis of results.

In this paper, we introduce an intelligent robotic arc welding system which exploits sensors like as LVS (Laser Vision Sensor), Hall effect sensor, voltmeter and so on. The use of industrial robot is saturated because of its own limitation, and one of the major limitations is that industrial robot cannot recognize the environment. Lately, sensor-based environmental awareness research of the industrial robot is performed actively to overcome such limitation, and it can expand application field and improve productivity. We classify the sensor-based intelligent arc welding robot system by the goal and the sensing data. The goals can be categorized into detection of a welding start point, tracking of a welding line and correction of a torch deformation. The Sensing data can be categorized into welding data (i.e. current, voltage and short circuit detection) and displacement data (i.e. distance, position). This paper covers not only the explanation of the each category but also its advantage and limitation.

This paper deals with engine room layout design optimization of fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV), which has been proposed as a potential alternative to fossil fuel depletion. Investing the great R&D efforts, the global vehicle manufacturers, especially Honda motor corporate, have shown not prototype vehicle but commercial vehicle using fuel cell in the market recently. In this paper, we analyze cooling performance and flow characteristic in the engine room of newly FCEV, in addition we suggest the optimization process for engine room layout design optimization. The two radiators in the vehicle for fuel cell stack and electronic components cooling have been analyzed and their performance are obtained in terms of cooling performance ratio (CPR). The value of CPR should always be less than one and based on criteria, we have achieved the optimum cooling performance of radiators for stack and electronic components. Aerodynamic performance is evaluated in terms of drag coefficient, improved through underbody modification using air devices.

Test device using virtual engine simulator can help reduce the number of engine tests through tests similar to the actual engine tests and repeat the test under the same condition, and thus reduce the engine maintenance and operating costs. Also, as it is possible to easily implement extreme conditions in which it is hard to conduct actual tests, it can prevent engine damages that may happen during the actual engine test under such conditions. In this study, an upgraded small jet engine performance test device was developed that can conduct both real and virtual engine test by applying real-time engine model to the existing micro jet engine performance test device that was previously developed by authors. This newly developed multi-purpose small jet engine performance test device is expected to be used for various educational and research purposes.

This study presents technical description of the operating program development that operates the test bench for functional test of EECU. The test bench is capable of testing, simulation and adjustment of the EECU software using the operating program. The test bench is for the Development Project of the EECU platform for FADEC system. The operating program is consists of 3 modules which are the test bench operating module, cockpit simulator module and SILS module. The operating module mainly carries out the EECU test with manual operation and operating scenarios. Also that record and process the test data. The cockpit simulator module is capable of implementation of virtual cockpit control input and engine status display. The SILS module can simulate engine and EECU operation in software environment.

The effect of exhaust heat recovery system can be evaluated by two well known method. First method is to measure the time duration from engine start under cold coolant temperature till coolant get warmed. By this methodology coolant warming duration can be index of warm-up effect. Second method is to analyze heat balance of the engine during warm-up phase under steady engine operation so that wasted energy by losses such as cooling and exhaust can be index of warm-up effect. This study focused on evaluation of warming-up effect by both methodology above mentioned using 2L SI engine under from idle to 2000rpm steady condition. Results, idle operation showed low heat recovery efficiency but under higher engine speed condition, remarkable heat recovery efficiency improvement was observed. In 2000rpm steady condition, warm-up duration of engine is decreased by exhaust heat recovery system.

Improvement of the thermal efficiency in operation and maintenance of low- and medium-speed engines is a kind of never-ending requirement in the maritime power plant business. For the purpose of improving engine management efficiency, a principal factor that represents the fitness of the engine should be identified. Gas pressure, gas temperature, and vibration have all been used as this factor. However, they have limitations in terms of response speed and diagnosis accuracy. The EFR (engine fitness ratio) is suggested as a new diagnostic factor in this paper. The EFR is defined as the ratio of particular frequencies in the frequency domain and represents the fitness of an engine. It is calculated from the fluctuation pattern of the crankshaft angular speed. The EFR was verified using an experimental method for a low-speed engine and an analytic method for a medium-speed engine.
The trailers with electronically controlled diesel engine was converted to dual fuel engine system. To estimate economical efficiency, test vehicles have been operated on a certain driving route repeatedly. Fuel economy, mximum driving distance per refueling and driveability are examined on the road including a free way. Developed vehicle can be operated over 500 km with dual Hel and shows 85% of diesel substitution ratio. Driveability is similar with but passing acceleration. It will be improved by calibration process. Test engine was set up for investigating power output, thermal efficiency and emission. ND 13-mode tests were performed for the test cycle. The emission result of dual fuel meets K2006 regulation and the engine performance of dual fuel engine was equivalent to the performance of diesel engine.

A marine diesel engine should realize optimal efficiency operation while reducing NOx. Fuel injection systems by electronic control can become effective means for that. Although it would be able to get more precise engine control compared to the mechanical injection system, it needs some accurate and instant information in order to bring its ability into full play while sailing on the sea. Very important information of them is shaft torque and continuous combustion pressure of all cylinders. The system presented in this report can deliver those data.
