  • A road-adaptive LQG control for the semi-active Macpherson strut suspension system of hydraulic type is investigated. A new control-oriented model, which incorporates the rotational motion of the unsprung mass, is used for control system design. First, based on the extended least squares estimation algorithm, a LQG controller adapting to the estimated road characteristics is designed. With computer simulations, the performance of the proposed LQC-controlled semi-active suspension is compared with that of a non-adaptive one. The results show better control performance of the proposed system over the compared one.

  • This paper proposes a linear system control algorithm with collision avoidance in multiple satellites. Consideration of collision avoidance is augmented by adding a weighting term in the cost function of the original tracking problem in linear quadratic control (LQC). Because the proposed algorithm relies on a similar solution procedure to the original LQC, its inherent advantages, including gain-robustness and optimality, are preserved. To confirm and visualize the derived algorithm, a simple example of two-vehicle motion in the two-dimensional plane is illustrated. In addition, the proposed collision avoidance control is applied to satellite formation flying, and verified by numerical simulations.

  • A newly designed haptic interface enables an operator to control a remote robot precisely. It transmits position information to the remote robot and feeds back the interaction force from it. A control algorithm of haptic interface has been studied to improve the robustness and stability to uncertain dynamic environments with a proposed contact dynamic model that incorporates human hand dynamics. A simplified hybrid parallel robot dynamic model fur a 6 DOF haptic device was proposed to from a real time control system, which does not include nonlinear components. LQC/LTR scheme was adopted in this paper for the compensation of un-modeled dynamics. The recovery of the farce from the remote robot at the haptic interface was demonstrated through the experiments.

  • An $H\infty$ controller is designed for active suspensions of vehicles using 7-degree-of-freedom full-car model. Its performance robustness as well as stability robustness to system parameter variations and unmodelled dynamics are assured through the $\mu$-framework. The performance of the $H\infty$ controller is compared with that of a LQC controller in compute simulations. From the simulations it is found that the active suspension with the $H\infty$ controller reduces the acceleration and motion of the sprung mass in the heaving rolling and pitching directions when the car is driven on a normal road or through an asymmetric bump. The suspension stroke and the road holding capability are also improved with a relatively small level of power consumption. Overall the $H\infty$ controller shows a more robust performance than that of the LQG design.

  • In this paper, a robust receding horizon controller for uncertain linear time-varying systems is presented in the dynamic output-feedback form. The existing output-feedback receding horizon controller in the literature is composed of a state observer and a static controller associated with the observer states (similar to LQC control), where the fundamental assumption is that the state observer will supply the exact states as time goes up. The performance of those controllers may be much degraded and even the closed-loop stability may not be guaranteed when the system suffers from disturbances and uncertainties or is time-varying. The proposed controller, which is not necessary to have the state-observer, overcomes such difficulties. Using matrix inequality conditions on the terminal weighting matrix, the closed-loop system stability is guaranteed. Numerical examples are ...

  • This paper deals with the design of a robust LQC/LTR (Linear Quadratic Gaussian with Loop Transfer Recovery) controller of the TCSC for the power system oscillation damping enhancement. Designing LQG/LTR controller involves several design parameter adjustment processes for performance improvement. this paper proposes a systematic design parameter adjustment procedure which is suitable for robust multi-monde stabilization. The designed controller is verified by nonlinear power system simulation, which shows that the controller is effective for damping power system oscillations.

  • Recently, in the industrial applications, the sensorless system is developed, but the sensorless system is required to have robustness for the measurement noise and disturbance. In this paper, for the sensorless system, the method of designing a robust sliding mode observer taking account of the ability of disturbance and noise attenuation is presented. Also, the strategy for the estimation of rotor flux using the sliding mode observer, which is robust to the measurement noise, is described. Robustness are achieved by assigning the pole of the the system during the sliding motion in such a way as to minimize the effects of the disturbances on the rotor flux estimation error. Finally, using worst case desist and LQC(least square error design), the sliding mode absolver is verified by computer simulations.
