This paper presents two different robust controllers for boost converters with two stages in a cascade. The first robust controller is monovariable; that is, the duty-cycle is the same for the two switches. The monovariable controller ensures that some prescribed constraints on pole placement and control effort are met, and optimizes the load disturbance rejection, while takes into account the uncertainty in certain parameters. The first controller is then compared with a multivariable robust controller; that is, with independent duty cycles in each switch. The multivariable controller takes into account the same uncertainty, constraints and optimization function. The comparison shows that the multivariable controller performs better at the expense of a slightly more complex implementation; that is, the multivariable controller provides a better rejection of the load disturbance. The paper also describes simulations and experimental results that are in perfect agreement with theoretical derivations.
In switching from the track-seeking or track-jumping control mode to track-following control mode in hard disk drives or optical disk drives, initial values of the feedback controller are tuned to improve the transient response. In general, all the initial values of the controller have been compensated for this purpose. In this paper, by partially compensating initial values of digital controllers, we achieve a good performance of the transient response. In the proposed method for IVC (Intial Value Compensation), LMIs (Linear Matrix Inequalities) are used, which includes conditions for improving the performance of the transient response such as reducing a tracking error and control efforts. We obtain optimal initial values of the controller by solving an optimization problem with constraints represented by only one LMI. Although initial values of the controller are partially compensated, we can show that not only a sufficient performance of the transient response is obtained but also control efforts are diminished. The feasibility of the method is verified by simulation studies.

The dynamic output-feedback robust control method based on linear matrix inequality (LMI) method is presented for suppressing vibration response of a functionally graded material (FGM) beam with piezoelectric actuator/sensor layers in this paper. Based on the reduced model obtained by using direct mode truncation, the linear fractional state space representation of a piezoelectric FGM beam with material properties varying through the thickness is developed by considering both the inherent uncertainties in constitution material properties as well as material distribution and the model error due to mode truncation. The dynamic output-feedback robust H-infinity control law is implemented to suppress the vibration response of the piezoelectric FGM beam and the LMI method is utilized to convert control problem into convex optimization problem for efficient computation. In numerical studies, the flexural vibration control of a cantilever piezoelectric FGM beam is considered to investigate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed control method. Compared with the efficient linear quadratic regulator (LQR) widely employed in literatures, the proposed robust control method requires less control voltage applied to the piezoelectric actuator in the case of same control performance for the controlled closed-loop system.

The SVDD (support vector data description) is one of the most well-known one-class support vector learning methods, in which one tries the strategy of utilizing balls defined on the feature space in order to distinguish a set of normal data from all other possible abnormal objects. Recently, with the objective of generalizing the SVDD which treats all training data with equal importance, the so-called D-SVDD (density-induced support vector data description) was proposed incorporating the idea that the data in a higher density region are more significant than those in a lower density region. In this paper, we consider the problem of further improving the D-SVDD toward the use of a partial reference set for testing, and propose an LMI (linear matrix inequality)-based optimization approach to solve the improved version of the D-SVDD problems. Our approach utilizes a new class of density-induced distance measures based on the RSDE (reduced set density estimator) along with the LMI-based mathematical formulation in the form of the SDP (semi-definite programming) problems, which can be efficiently solved by interior point methods. The validity of the proposed approach is illustrated via numerical experiments using real data sets.
H-infinity norm relates to the maximum in the frequency response function and H-infinity control method focuses on the case that the vibration is excited at the fundamental frequency, while 2-norm relates to the output energy of systems with the input of pulses or white noises and 2-norm control method weighs the overall vibration performance of systems. The trade-off between the performance in frequency-domain and that in time-domain may be achieved by integrating two indices in the mixed vibration control method. Based on the linear fractional state space representation in the modal space for a piezoelectric flexible structure with uncertain modal parameters and un-modeled residual high-frequency modes, a mixed dynamic output feedback control design method is proposed to suppress the structural vibration. Using the linear matrix inequality (LMI) technique, the initial populations are generated by the designing of robust control laws with different H-infinity performance indices before the robust 2-norm performance index of the closed-loop system is included in the fitness function of optimization. A flexible beam structure with a piezoelectric sensor and a piezoelectric actuator are used as the subject for numerical studies. Compared with the velocity feedback control method, the numerical simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
In this paper, the well-conditioned observer for a stochastic system is designed so that the observer is less sensitive to the ill-conditioning factors in transient and steady-state observer performance. These factors include not only deterministic uncertainties such as unknown initial estimation error, round-off error, modeling error and sensing bias, but also stochastic uncertainties such as disturbance and sensor noise. In deterministic perspectives, a small value in the L$_{2}$ norm condition number of the observer eigenvector matrix guarantees robust estimation performance to the deterministic uncertainties. In stochastic viewpoints, the estimation variance represents the robustness to the stochastic uncertainties and its upper bound can be minimized by reducing the observer gain and increasing the decay rate. Both deterministic and stochastic issues are considered as a weighted sum with a LMI (Linear Matrix Inequality) formulation. The gain in the well-conditioned observer is optimally chosen by the optimization technique. Simulation examples are given to evaluate the estimation performance of the proposed observer.

This paper proposes a composite design of fuzzy adaptive control scheme based on TMD RC structural system and the gain of two-dimensional fuzzy control is controlled by parameters. Monitoring and learning in LMI then produces performance indicators with a weighting matrix as a function of cost. It allows to control the trade-off between the two efficiencies by adjusting the appropriate weighting matrix. The two-dimensional Boost control model is equivalent to the LMI-constrained multi-objective optimization problem under dual performance criteria. By using the proposed intelligent control model, the fuzzy nonlinear criterion is satisfied. Therefore, the data connection can be further extended. Evaluation of controller performance the proposed controller is compared with other control techniques. This ensures good performance of the control routines used for position and trajectory control in the presence of model uncertainties and external influences. Quantitative verification of the effectiveness of monitoring and control. The purpose of this article is to ensure access to adequate, safe and affordable housing and basic services. Therefore, it is assumed that this goal will be achieved in the near future through the continuous development of artificial intelligence and control theory.

This paper presents the robust stability analysis and design methodology of the fuzzy feedback linearization control systems. Uncertainty and disturbances with known bounds are assumed to be included in the Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy models representing the nonlinear plants. $L_2$ robust stability of the closed system is analyzed by casting the systems into the diagonal norm bounded linear differential inclusions (DNLDI) formulation. Based on the linear matrix inequality (LMI) optimization programming, a numerical method for finding the maximum stable ranges of the fuzzy feedback linearization control gains is also proposed. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme, the robust stability analysis and control design examples are given.
This paper presents an LMI-based method to design a saturated state-feedback $H_2$ controller for uncertain systems with actuator saturation. Specifically, the paper proposes a sufficient condition such that the system under norm-bounded uncertainties and actuator saturation is asymptotically stable and the $H_2$-norm of the system has an upper-bound. The resulting condition is further utilized to solve a convex optimization problem specified in the context of $H_2$-norm minimization, whose solution yields a saturated $H_2$ controller. A numerical example is presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
