  • Linear roller bearing (LRB) is an important mechanical element that is widely used in precise positioning systems that are subjected to large loads. This paper presents a new model for estimating the displacement of an LRB subjected to external forces. For this purpose, assuming that the linear motion block (LM block) is rigid, the equilibrium conditions for the LRB were obtained by solving the equilibrium equations of the rollers and the rigid LM block using the iterative Newton-Raphson method. The contact loads between the rollers and raceways were determined considering the profiled rollers. Then, the structural deformations of the LM block, subjected to the contact loads from the rigid LM block model, were computed using a finite element model for the LM block. The displacements of the LRB were then determined by superposition of the rigid LM block displacements on the induced displacements due to the structural deformations of the LM block. The proposed method was verified through comparison with a program by the bearing manufacturer.

  • Linear motion (LM) ball guides have good accuracy and high efficiency. They are widely applied for precision machinery such as machine tools, semiconductor fabrication machines and robots. However, friction force incurs heat between the balls and grooves. Thermal expansion due to the heat deteriorates stiffness and accuracy of the LM ball guides. For accurate estimation of stiffness and accuracy during the linear motion, friction models of LM ball guides are required. To formulate accurate frictional models of LM ball guides according to load and preload conditions, rolling and viscous frictional analyses have been performed in this paper. Contact loads between balls and grooves are derived from Hertzian contact analysis. Contact angle variation is incorporated for the precision modeling. Viscous friction model is formulated from the shear stress of lubricant and the contact area between balls and grooves. Experiments confirm validity of the developed friction model for various external load and feedrate conditions.

  • This paper derives Lagrange multiplier tests based on Double-Length Artificial Regression and Outer-Product Gradient for testing linear and log-linear panel regressions against Box-Cox alternatives. The proposed DLR based LM tests are easy to implement in an error component model. From the Monte Carlo study, the DLR based LM tests are recommended for testing functiona forms.

  • This paper consider the testing problem of grouped heteroscedasticity in the linear regression model. We provide the Lagrange Multiplier(LM), Wald, Likelihood Ratio (LR) test statistis for testing of grouped heteroscedasticity. Monte Carlo experiments are conducted to study the performance of these tests.

  • To position precision machines accurately, linear motion (LM) guides having rolling elements can be used. For ultra-accurate positioning control of the precision machines, the understanding of the dynamic behavior of the LM guide at the macro and/or micro scales is most critical, but the research on this subject is rare. The objective of the present research is to observe the vibration phenomena of the LM guide. Bails are used as the rolling elements in this work. Several experiments show the nonlinear characteristics of the LM guide such as hysteresis behavior and force-dependent natural frequencies phenomena.

  • Linear motion (LM) ball guides with rolling contact are core units of feed-drive systems. They are widely applied for precision machinery such as machine tools, semiconductor fabrication machines and robots. However, the friction force induced from LM ball guides generates heat, which deteriorates positioning accuracy and incurs changes of stiffness and preload. To accurately analyze the effects and apply the results to precision machine design, mathematical modeling of the friction force is required. In this paper, accurate formulation of the friction force due to rolling, viscous, and slip frictions is conducted for LM ball guides. To verify the reliability of the developed friction model, experiments are performed under various assembly, load and velocity conditions. Effects of frictional components are analyzed through the formulated friction model.

  • Two new methods are proposed for an unsupervised adaptation of a language model (LM) with a single sentence for automatic transcription tasks. At the training phase, training documents are clustered by a method known as Latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA), and then a domain-specific LM is trained for each cluster. At the test phase, an adapted LM is presented as a linear mixture of the now trained domain-specific LMs. Unlike previous adaptation methods, the proposed methods fully utilize a trained LDA model for the estimation of weight values, which are then to be assigned to the now trained domain-specific LMs; therefore, the clustering and weight-estimation algorithms of the trained LDA model are reliable. For the continuous speech recognition benchmark tests, the proposed methods outperform other unsupervised LM adaptation methods based on latent semantic analysis, non-negative matrix factorization, and LDA with n-gram counting.

  • Evaluation learning based on code testing is becoming a popular solution in programming education via Online judge(OJ). In the recent past, many papers have been published on how to detect plagiarism through source code similarity analysis to support OJ. However, deep learning-based research to support automated tutoring is insufficient. In this paper, we propose Input & Output side FiLM models to predict whether the input code will pass or fail. By applying Feature-wise Linear Modulation(FiLM) technique to GRU, our model can learn combined information of Java byte codes and problem information that it tries to solve. On experimental design, a balanced sampling technique was applied to evenly distribute the data due to the occurrence of asymmetry in data collected by OJ. Among the proposed models, the Input Side FiLM model showed the highest performance of 73.63%. Based on result, it has been shown that students can check whether their codes will pass or fail before receiving the OJ evaluation which could provide basic feedback for improvements.

  • This paper considers a linear regression model with space and time data in where the disturbances follow spatially correlated error components. We provide the best linear unbiased predictor for the one way error components. We provide the best linear unbiased predictor for the one way error component model with spatial autocorrelation. Further, we derive two diagnostic test statistics for the assessment of model specification due to spatial dependence and random effects as an application of the Lagrange Multiplier principle.
