An advanced nuclear reactor based on molten salts including a molten salt reactor and pyroprocessing needs a sensitive monitoring system suitable for operation in harsh environments with limited access. Multi-element detection is challenging with the conventional technologies that are compatible with the in-situ operation; hence laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) has been investigated as a potential alternative. However, limited precision is a chronic problem with LIBS. We increased the precision of LIBS under high temperature by protecting optics using a gas protective layer and correcting for shotto-shot variance and lens-to-sample distance using a laser-induced acoustic signal. This study investigates cerium as a surrogate for uranium and corrosion products for simulating corrosive environments in LiCl-KCl. While the un-corrected limit of detection (LOD) range is 425-513 ppm, the acoustic-corrected LOD range is 360-397 ppm. The typical cerium concentrations in pyroprocessing are about two orders of magnitude higher than the LOD found in this study. A LIBS monitoring system that adopts these methods could have a significant impact on the ability to monitor and provide early detection of the transient behavior of salt composition in advanced molten salt-based nuclear reactors.
Graphene is a single atomic layer of carbon atoms, and has exceptional electrical, mechanical, and optical characteristics. It has been broadly utilized in the fields of material science, physics, chemistry, device fabrication, information, and biology. In this review paper, we briefly investigate the ideas, structure, characteristics, and fabrication techniques for graphene applications in lithium ion batteries (LIBs). In LIBs, a constant three-dimensional (3D) conductive system can adequately enhance the transportation of electrons and ions of the electrode material. The use of 3D graphene and graphene-expansion electrode materials can significantly upgrade LIBs characteristics to give higher electric conductivity, greater capacity, and good stability. This review demonstrates several recent advances in graphene-containing LIB electrode materials, and addresses probable trends into the future.
Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are rapidly improving in capacity and life cycle characteristics to meet the requirements of a wide range of applications, such as portable electronics, electric vehicles, and micro- or nanoelectro-mechanical systems. Recently, atomic layer deposition (ALD), one of the vapor deposition methods, has been explored to expand the capability of LIBs by producing near-atomically flat and uniform coatings on the shell of nanostructured electrodes and membranes for conventional LIBs. In this paper, we introduce various ALD coatings on the anode, cathode, and separator materials to protect them and improve their electrochemical and thermomechanical stability. In addition, we discuss the effects of ALD coatings on the three-dimensional structuring and conduction layer through activation of electrochemical reactions and facilitation of fluent charge collection.
Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have been rapidly expanding from IT based applications to uses in electric vehicles (EVs), smart grids, and energy storage systems (ESSs), all of which require low cost, high energy density and high power density. The increasing demand for LIBs has resulted in increasing price of the lithium source, which is a major obstacle to wider application. To date, the possible depletion of lithium resources has become relevant, giving rise to the interest in Na-ion batteries (NIBs) as promising alternatives to LIBs. A lot of transition metal compounds based on conversion-alloying reaction have been extensively investigated to meet the requirement for the anodes with high energy density and long life-time. In-depth understanding the electrochemical reaction mechanisms for the transition metal compounds makes it promising negative anode for NIBs and provides feasible strategy for low cost and large-scale energy storage system in the near future.
Alumina is one of the most important ceramic materials because of its useful physical and chemical properties. Recently, high-purity alumina has been used in various industrial fields. This leads to increasing demand for reliable elemental analysis of impurities in alumina samples. However, the chemical inertness of alumina makes the sample preparation for conventional elemental analysis a tremendously difficult task. Herein, we demonstrated the feasibility of laser ablation for effective sampling of alumina powder. Laser ablation performs sampling rapidly without any chemical reagents and also allows simultaneous optical emission spectroscopy and mass spectrometry analyses. For six alumina samples including certified reference materials and commercial products, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) and laser-ablation inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) analyses were performed simultaneously based on a common laser ablation sampling. LIBS was found to be useful to quantify alkali and alkaline earth metals with limits-of-detection (LODs) around 1 ppm. LA-ICP-MS could quantify transition metals such as Ti, Cu, Zn, and Zr with LODs in the range from a few tens to hundreds ppb.
Electric vehicles (EVs) have recently been in the spotlight and have been rapidly developed to reduce the carbon emission with respect to the transport sector. Most EVs currently employ lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) as power sources because they have a higher energy density and a lower self-discharge than other batteries. However, the LIBs cannot respond to high power demands when the state of health (SOH) falls below 80%. Therefore, the SOH of the LIBs must be accurately measured or estimated. To date, many methods have been studied and proposed for measuring or estimating the SOH. In this paper, representative methods among them are reclassified and introduced.
그래서 본 연구에서는 LIBS(Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy) 분광기를 통해 폐소형가전 플라스틱을 선별하는 RBFNNs(Radial Basis Function Neural Networks) 패턴 분류기를 소개한다. 조건부에는 FCM(Fuzzy C-Means) 클러스터링을 사용한다.
As a significant technology in the smartization era promoted by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the secondary battery industry has recently attracted significant attention. The demand for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), which exhibit excellent performance, is considerably increasing in different industrial fields. During the manufacturing process of LIBs, it is necessary to join the cathode and anode sheets with thicknesses of several tens of micrometers to lead taps of the cathode and anode with thicknesses of several hundreds of micrometers. Ultrasonic welding exhibits excellent bonding when bonded with very thin plates, such as negative and positive electrodes of LIBs, and dissimilar and highly conductive materials. In addition, ultrasonic welding has a small heat-affected zone. In LIBs, Cu is mainly used as the negative electrode sheet, whereas Cu or Ni is used as the negative electrode tab. In this study, one or two electrode sheets (t0.025 mm Cu) were welded to one lead tab (t0.1 mm Cu). The welding energy and pressure were used as welding parameters to determine the welding strength of the interface between two or three welded materials. Finally, the effects of these welding parameters on the welding strength were investigated.
