  • The dependence of hysteresis characteristics in low temperature poly-Si (LTPS) thin film transistors (TFTs) on the gate-source voltage (Vgs) or the drain-source voltage (Vds) bias is investigated and discussed. The hysteresis levels in both p-type and n-type LTPS TFTs are independent of Vds bias but increase as the sweep range of Vgs increases. It has been found that the hysteresis in both p-type and n-type LTPS TFTs originated from charge trapping and de-trapping in the channel region rather than at the source/drain edges.

  • A simple construction, low cost, and a fault tolerant power electronic drive have made the switched reluctance drive a strong contender for many applications. But the switched reluctance drive exhibits higher levels of vibration and acoustic noise than most competing drives. The main source of vibration in the switched reluctance drive is generated by the rapid change of radial magnetic force when the phase current is extinguished during commutation. In this paper, some excitation methods are proposed to reduce the vibration and acoustic noise of the switched reluctance drive. The excitation strategies considered in this research are 1-phase, 2-phase and hybrid excitation methods. The 1-phase method is the conventional approach, while in the 2-phase method, the two phases are excited simultaneously. The hybrid excitation has 2-phase excitation using a long dwell angle as well as conventional 1-phase excitation. The vibration and acoustic noise are compared and tested. The suggested 2-phase and hybrid strategies reduce acoustic noise because the schemes reduce the abrupt change in excitation level by using distributed and balanced excitation.

  • In this study, the cycle performance of an air conditioner with multi-indoor units is analyzed and simulated. The cycle performance could be predicted through the integration of mathematical formulation for these devices. The condenser pressure is obtained by an iteration process to match the mass flow rates of the compressor and the expansion valve and the evaporator pressure is determined by an iteration process, in which the suction super heat is tracing the targeted super heat. The required software was developed by system programming. the software algorithm is extended to predict the cycle performance of an air conditioner system with multi-indoor units, and then the numerical results are compared with experimental results. This mathematical model is validated from the result of experiments conducted on 8.3kW air conditioner. The errors in capacity, electronic power, and COP are found to be within 10% in general.

  • In this study, we synthesized graphene oxide and developed novel spin-spray coating technology. The graphene oxide thin film was uniformly coated on amine-functionalized glass surfaces using spin-spray coating technology. We also stacked up to four layers of graphene oxide on glass substrates in a uniform manner. From the results, we infer that this spin-spray coating of graphene oxide thin film could be a powerful tool for various electronic display coating applications.

  • This study was carried out to investigate aroma patterns of Hanwoo (Korean cattle) beef using electronic nose during refrigerated storage, and to compare these results with chemical quality (pH, TBARS). The M. longissimus muscle from Hanwoo carcasses after 24 hrs postmortem was obtained and stored at 5${\pm}$1$^{\circ}C$ for 7 days. Sensitivity (dR/RO) values among electronic nose data were changed differently during refrigerated storage, and showed significant difference on the 7th day of storage (p<0.01). The dR/RO from SY/G, SY/AA, SY/Gh, SY/gCTl, SY/gCT decreased but those from SY/LG, T30/1, P10/1, P10/2, P40/1, T70/2, PA2 increased during storage for 7 days. Mapping these data using PCA (principal component analysis) showed that the 1st day data were present in the middle of the right side, the 3rd day data were present in bottom part of this area and the 7th day data spread out more widely on the left side. In case of DFA (discriminant factor analysis), the flock clustered round and located in different side clearly comparing with PCA plot. In analysis of correlation coefficients among electronic nose data and chemical quality data, there was significant correlation among sensor data (p<0.001). But pH and TBARS were not significantly correlated with electronic nose data. Consequently, PCA and DFA plot by electronic nose data showed difference during refrigerated storage and there were significant correlations among sensors. Therefore it will be possible to detect separate aroma patterns of Hanwoo beef using electronic nose.

  • A tunable wavelength filter was proposed and demonstrated by using the UV nanoimprint technique. It consists of a Bragg grating in polymer waveguides and a heating electrode. The manufacturing of the grating was substantially simplified with the introduction of a smart imprint stamp containing a waveguide pattern integrated with the grating pattern. The center wavelength of the filter was successfully tuned by taking advantage of the thermooptic effect in polymers, which was induced by supplying electrical power to the electrode. For the fabricated device, a transmission dip of ${\~}$15 dB and a 3-dB bandwidth of 0.8 nm were obtained at the Bragg wavelength of ${\~}$l560 nm. The achieved thermooptic tuning efficiency was ${\~}$0.28 nm/mW, while the center wavelength was shifted from 1560 nm to 1558 nm with the electrical power consumption of 7 mW.

  • P-type transparent semiconductor $SrCu_2O_2$ thin films have been prepared by RF sputtering using low-alkali glass for LCD and quartz as substrates. Single phase of $SrCu_2O_2$ powder was obtained by heating a stoichiometric mixture of CuO and $SrCO_3$ at 1223K for 96h under N2 gas flow, and target was fabricated at 1243K for 24h. Room temperature conductivity of the sintered body was about 0.02S/cm, and the activation energy in the temperature range of $-50^{\circ}C$~RT and RT~$150^{\circ}C$ were 0.18eV, 0.07eV, respectively. Effects of deposition pressure and post-annealing temperature on the electrical and optical properties of the obtained thin film have been investigated.

  • Throughout manufacturing processes, pulse shaping is required for material processing and it is regarded as an important (actor according to the specific characteristics of materials. Therefore, this study suggests a highly appropriate pulse shaping technique using a multi-switching method. This is a pulse superposition method in which one flash lamp can consecutively turn on by the double switching of the discharging system. It is possible to construct a variety of pulse shapes and pulse widths by the consecutive trigger of the silicon-controlled rectifiers (SCR) of a PIC (program integrated circuit) one-chip microprocessor. The use of this technique can provide a number of advantages to people who require suitable pulse shaping for particular applications such as welding, cutting, and drilling.

  • The voltage resonating inverter has a defect in the switching element that works at 5 or 6 times higher than input voltage. Especially, it is very difficult to choose very high switching device for the 220[V]commercial voltage. In this paper, it is proposed the optimum method to realize the turbo 2000[W] power for induction cooker that is employed the 900[V] IGBT with decreasing operating voltage of the switching component by making the 220[V], 1500[W] inverter through the clamp mode voltage resonating inverter.
