The Design of Flash Lantern using LED for aironautical ground lights (LED를 이용한 항공등의 점멸 방법에 대한 연구)

  • The advantages of LED(Light Emitting Diode) are low electric power consumption, long life time and excellent visibility. And a LED light source does not include the mercury(Hg) and or a filament, it is expected as an environmentally friendly next generation light source with its good reliability. In order to design and develope the flash lantern using LED for aironautical ground lights, technical trends and new standards about the aironautical ground lights were inspected, and power consumption and flash time for effective luminous intensity of aironautical ground lights were analyzed.

  • The advantages of LED(Light Emitting Diode) are low electric power consumption long life time and excellent visibility. In order to design and develope the marine lantern using LED, technical trends and standards about the marine lantern were analyzed and sample products were manufactured and evaluated in comparing with existing marine lantern The performance of developed LED lantern is better than that of the existing marine lantern using an incandescent lamp. The electric power consumption of our products is 30[%] and the luminous intensity is two or fen times brighter than existing marine lantern.

Visibility Evaluation of Various Retroreflective Fabric Types and LED Position on Safety Life Jacket (안전기능성 구명복에 적용된 재귀반사 종류별 및 LED 위치별 가시성능 평가)

  • This study prepared 5 retroreflective fabrics of glass beads and colors of silver, gold and purple in order to characterize morphologies, luminance and illuminance properties. Retroreflective fabrics were prepared according to division and area by Samp.1 (Division 2, area $80cm^2$), Samp.2 (Division 2, area $60cm^2$), Samp.3(Division 3, area $60cm^2$), Samp.4 (Division 5, area $50cm^2$), and Samp.5 (Division 1, area $100cm^2$). The results of the morphologies indicate that the back side of retroreflective fabrics was the 3M-Sv, RF-Sv. The RF-Gd of the fabrics were woven fabrics and the SRF-Sv, SRF-Pp was knitting. The largest glass bead size was 3M-Sv and the smallest was SRF-Pp. RF-Sv was the thinnest and SRF-Sv, SRF-Pp were the thickest. The results of luminance properties indicated a tendency to decrease slightly as the number of divisions and area increased, except for Samp.2 to Samp.3. The result of illuminance properties tend to increase as the number of LED becomes greater than the number of divisions in the same area; in addition, the higher the luminance as a whole increases. The results show that it is preferable to use a silver-colored RF-Sv which has the highest luminance and physical properties when a retroreflective fabric is applied to clothes.

Design and Fabrication of LED Navigation Lights (LED 항해등의 설계 및 제작)

  • In this paper, we designed and fabricated LED navigation lights which can replace the existing ones immediately and overcome disadvantages due to use of conventional lamps. To decide the best arrangement and position of a LED module, optical systems of existing navigation lights were analyzed and refracted routes of rays were simulated. The electrical and optical characteristics of the fabricated LED navigation lights were measured and analyzed with a goniophotometer. To calculate ranges of visibility, the vertical and horizontal luminous intensity distributions were evaluated in accordance with the COLREGs (convention on the international regulation for preventing collisions at Sea). From the results, the proposed LED navigation lights showed suitable characteristics for marine environment with the power consumption reduced by 90% and the maximum luminous intensity increased by 20% compared to the existing navigation lights.

The Study on the optimized LED module of VMS for saving energy (에너지 절감을 위한 VMS LED 모듈 최적화 연구)

  • Variable message signs(VMS) in use are being displaying with the LED device as the luminous source, and it is a recent trend to be changed from the Lamp type to the Surface-Mount Devices(SMD) type. The LED device leads to get VMS display brightly and clearly, leading to have visibility and legibility better than the existing VMS. However, the lights which display off the road, the unnecessary energy, might have negative effect on ecosystem. This study developed the way of getting the lights be displayed only to drivers without the unnecessary energy and estimated the energy efficiency of the development by the optical testing. As a result, this study showed that the energy consumption of the developed display device appeared to decrease by about 36.1% compared to the existing device. Also the upward and downward angle of the lights changed from an angle of $24^{\circ}C$ to $0^{\circ}C$and from an angle of $-24^{\circ}C$ to $-11^{\circ}C$, respectively. Therefore, it anticipates that the developed device would benefit highway safety due to an improvement in visibility and legibility compared to the existing VMS and the energy consumption would be less lower than the existing VMS.

  • The internal temperature of an operating room had to keep within $20^{\circ}C$. However, the doctor who is wearing operating gown and mask caused to rise temperature because of the thermal occurrence of dental LED light source. At first, the surgery environment is getting worse. And then last, it would increase bleeding rate by the expansion of patient's exposured blood vessel. A surgical operator can distribute the patient's tissue through such surgery environment, exactly. It can do accurate surgery. So, it gave to effect that surgical operator's eye condition is getting better and it could keep a mutual assistance system. For this research, we develop the LED dental light source module of high color rendition. It performed simulation for replacing established the method of Halogen lamp and Plazma lamp of light source. We analyzed intensity of illumination and the change of viability by changing the height of light source module.

  • LED light sources have been known to have a long life and good energy efficiency compared to traditional light sources. Recently, headlamps using LED light sources have ensured the forward visibility and safe operation of high-speed rolling stock. However, assessing the lifespan of LED headlamps based on real test data is not easy because it depends on the multiple stress factors such as a fixed driving current, junction temperature, vibration and so on. Generally, LED headlamps have failed before their advertised life span mainly due to temperature. Thus, the performance assessment of a temperature control unit should be done before a life cycle test of LED headlamps. This study attempted to develop a prototype temperature control module for a lifecycle test system using a commercial LED headlight and verified the system through experiments.

  • Currently, most of TDIS(Train Destination Indicator System) is operated colored-LED type equipment in Korea. This current LED type TDIS equipment has not graceful display and causes passenger's fatigues because of the LED module inherent characteristics as a display light source, high power consumption, high operating and maintenance costs, and et al. To address these several, we are developed new colored-LCD type TDIS equipment. According to our developed new TDIS equipment, we can achieve high resolution and graceful color stone of information display. Thus high graded service are able to provide to passengers. In addition, LCD module decreases power consumption, and it can be used permanently by changing only backlight in comparison with conventional equipment. Therefore we can decrease the maintenance cost and extend durability-period of TDIS equipment using new equipment.

Reliable methods at low temperatures for LED navigation light of ships (LED 선박용 항해등의 저온에서의 신뢰성 방안)

  • LED navigation light installed on the ship performs a important role to ensure safety and prevent collisions with other ships. LED navigation light is mainly used in the night and within the limited visibility by smoke, rainfall. In particular, LED navigation light installed with a clear understanding. LED navigation light is consist of LED module, a control board, a converter, a Fresnel lens, such as enclosure. Russian Society of LED navigation light (RMRS) of the ship to be delivered by drying at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering requires guaranteed reliable products at below $-52^{\circ}C$. conventional LED navigation light has to ensure quality at $-25{\sim}40^{\circ}C$. So, LED navigation light should ensure a problems of random failure or long time operation. In this paper, we present the current status and future plans of reliability so far.

The Evaluation of Historical and Cultural Authenticity of the Three Major Cultural Areas Projects - Targeting Korean culture theme park in Yeongju-Zone and World confucian scholar culture park in Bonghwa-Zone - (3대문화권 사업 계획의 역사문화적 진정성 평가 - 한국문화테마파크 영주지구와 세계유교선비문화공원 봉화지구를 대상으로 -)

  • This study targets Korean culture theme park in Yeongju-Zone and World confucian scholar culture park in Bonghwa-Zone among the Three Major Cultural Areas Projects supervised by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The study analyzes the Historical and Cultural Authenticity of each project on the basis of the reports and the report materials for meeting with related organizations. The results of the study are drawn as follows. First, through the theoretical consideration, this study drew the types of authenticity: originality, identity, specificity and visibility, which are evaluation items on the Historical and Cultural Authenticity. Second, Bonghwa-Zone succeeded in acquiring originality with tangible cultural properties but Yeongju-Zone chose a project site without it. Third, with originality, Bonghwa-zone was evaluated as having resources and concept with high traditional culture connectivity and fulfilled identity. It led the feature showing the high affinity between originality and identity. Fourth, compared to the projects of Andong-Zone in the Three Major Cultural Areas Projects, these two projects failed to acquire the distinctions since the primary and the secondary influence area and major facilities & programs coincided with those of the projects of Andong-Zone. Fifth, compared to Bonghwa-Zone, Yeongju-Zone realized visibility faithfully by the conceptual flexibility of "Korean Culture" and a large-scale development. Sixth, in terms of the Historical and Cultural Authenticity of project plan, it is evaluated that Yeongju-Zone and Bonghwa-Zone only fulfilled visibility and specificity respectively.
