Design of LED Driving SMPS for Large Traffic Signal Lamp (대형 교통신호용 LED 구동 SMPS 설계)

  • In this study, SMPS to drive LED traffic signal light for the railroad and airport was designed and its electrical characteristics was measured. The output voltage, output current and its power efficiencies to the input voltage 8~12VAC and 8~16VDC were 6VDC, 1.85ADC and >70%, respectively. Also the power factors of the SMPS were above 0.75 in the AC input voltage range.

  • LED is low power and pro-environment semiconductor element. That can be used not only as the lighting function but also for Visible Light Communication(VLC). The VLC is the communication technology that can send data by blinking a fluorescent or LED using visible spectrum. That velocity of blinking can not be usually recognized by eyesight. Visible Light Communication using LED can be used in many fields. In the field of ITS(Intelligent Transportation System), Under construction on the road, Emitting traffic signs can be applied to transfer the vehicle information. In this paper, Emitting traffic signs in addition to the VLC give information about road condition, safety distance and the lane change. We design Communication protocol to provide safety service and verify protocol by experiment.

Recently high brightness LED is used in fish-luring light and traffic signal light alternative of normal light bulb, and widely used in the area of display pannel. Moreover nowadays LED has been used as a back light of LCD display. Recently, visible light communication(VLC) using LED, that allow two-way serial data communication between LEDs over a distance of sveral centimeters or meters, has been widely studied in the area of digital information transmission along with illumination and display. In this paper, we present LED communication system and their applications.

Characteristics of LED Signal Lamp Driving by SMPS for Large-scale Traffic Signal (SMPS 구동 대형교통 신호용 LED 신호등의 특성)

  • In this study, SMPS driven LED traffic signal light for Large-scale traffic such as railroad and airport was designed and its electrical and EMI characteristics were measured. The output current of the LED module driven by SMPS was 1.67A for AC and DC input voltage over 10V. The conducted emission measured over 0.15~30MHz frequency range was lower than the allowed quasi-peak and average level, and the radiated noise measured over 30~1000MHz frequency range showed $23.96dB{\mu}V/m$ at 59.96MHz.

  • The traditional Aids to Navigations(AtoN) have been ensuring the safety of ships by indicating the passage and dangers by depending on the flashing lights. But the more the industrial complex behind port which is all over the country involving the Ulsan port developed, the more the lights behind port is stronger, and then the distinguishment of the signal of AtoN from the lights behind port is more difficult. And It is urgently needed to prepare the counterplan about the ensurement of safety because the authorities levels up the limit tonnage of the ships which are sail in and out during night to improve the operation of port through reducing of the traffic jam So, the method of direct lighting like LED non-neon is applied to unmanned lighthouses or light beacon, and the LED flashing number plate is applied to light buoys whose light power is weaker than to improve distinguishment and to be easy positioning of ships. As a result, the users of Ulsan port comment favorably on this item and the development of AtoN must be continuos to overcome the lights behind port.

  • In this paper we investigated the method of examining the accelerated life test on LED traffic signal module by the temperature. The longevity presumption of the LED type signal light by a general heat cycle test used and executed cycle when it was done to longevity by the heat cycle test number and the acceleration factor of a real system requirements of this heat cycle test. Therefore, it reports on the introduction of the acceleration type from which the LED traffic signal module is done here to clarify the above-mentioned acceleration factor with the object and the acceleration factor is requested the test atmosphere actually in the system requirements.

  • Recently, VLC(Visible Light Communication), which is a technology to communicate wirelessly by carrying information in lights based on LED, is getting attention. If we use the VCL, we don't need to receive authorization because it uses the existing industrial infrastructure(LED infrastructure) and frequency band together and there is the little possibility of interference and it has a high level of security by removing visible light in a portion where data transfer is not required. These are the advantage of VCL. In this paper, we study the traffic and signal system based on Visible Light Communication with consideration for these advantages.

  • Road facilities for safe driving were designed for drivers to distinguish them during day and night, but they cannot play their role when the weather becomes worse. Recently, the road facilities have been designed by using electric and electronic technology so that they can be displayed well at a long distance, but they should be replaced very often due to their frequent breakdown. So, there are many problems in traffic calming and maintenance. In this study, to solve the above problems, semi-permanent LED beacon light was installed in the area where traffic accident are frequent, and monitoring system was developed so that the LED beacon light can be maintenanced by connecting with system. For the above installation and development, system was based on window operating system and it was developed for worker to operate it by using P.C. through connecting with wireless local area network. The result of this study led to analyzing state information on the battery of field-installed LED beacon light in real time, and manegement to effectively by predicting their life cycle.

  • Since LED lights have advantages of long life, low-carbon and high efficiency, they have been widely used as household lamps, automotive lighting, traffic lights etc. In this study, MCPCB LED lamps for automotive LED headlights were manufactured and the performance of heat release was optimized. The developed LED headlight satisfied the target thermal performance with heat pipes and fans, and it was also shown that fan life can be prolonged three times by fan on-off control.
