  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of an energy restriction program on the weight loss and changes of the biochemical nutritional status for 35 obese women. The energy restriction program took place over a 3-week period that was devided into two parts. The first part consisted of 750-800kcal diet and the second part of 800-1000kcal. Subjects were provided a low energy formula and a menu for the recommended diet. Anthropometric and biochemical measurement before and after the energy restriction program were estimated. Mean weight loss was 3.0kg, accordingly the obestiy rate was lowered from 40.2 to 34.4, BMI from 29.2 to 28.9 and fat weight from 23.3kg to 21.0kg( <0.01. <0.05). Waist circumference loss was most prominent(4.4%) compared to triceps(21% loss)and hip circumference(2.2%loss). Mean RBC count, hemoglobin and hematocrit were significantly lowered( <0.01) but they were in the normal range. Systolic blood pressure was significantly decreased from 124.1mmHg to 113.1mmHg . Mean SGOT and SGPT were lowered from 29.3u/L to 20.0u/L and from 28.7u/L to 16.6u/L, respectively. It seems that the 3 weeks of energy restriction program used in this study was effective in improving anthropometric measurements without producing deficiency of iron or other susceptible nutrients.(Korean J community Nutrition 2(5) : 695-700,1997)

  • We experimentally investigated lifted propane jet flames diluted with nitrogen to obtain flame-stability maps based on heat-loss-induced self-excitation. We found that heat-loss-induced self-excitations are caused by conductive heat loss from premixed flame branches to trailing diffusion flames as well as soot radiation. The conductive-heat-loss-induced self-excitation at frequencies less than 0.1 Hz is explained well by a suggested mechanism, whereas the oscillation of the soot region induces a self-excitation of lift-off height of the order of 0.1 Hz. The suggested mechanism is also verified from additive experiments in a room at constant temperature and humidity. The heat-loss-induced self-excitation is explained by the Strouhal numbers as a function of the relevant parameters.

  • Three-dimensional flow and aerodynamic loss in the tip-leakage flow region of a turbine blade equipped with both a pressure-side winglet and a suction-side squealer have been measured for the tip gap-to-span ratio of h/s = 1.36%. The suction-side squealer has a fixed height-to-span ratio of $h_s/s$ = 3.75% and the pressure-side winglet has width-to-pitch ratios of w/p = 2.64%, 5.28%, 7.92% and 10.55%. The results are compared with those for a plane tip and for a cavity squealer tip of $h_{ps}/s$ = 3.75%. The present tip delivers lower loss in the passage vortex region but higher loss in the tip-leakage vortex region, compared to the plane tip. With increasing w/p, its mass-averaged loss tends to be reduced. Regardless of w/p, the present tip provides lower loss than the plane tip but higher loss than the cavity squealer tip.

  • Dry-type artificial seeds were produced by dehydrating alginate-encapsulated somatic embryos of lire. When placed on half- strength MS solid medium 20% of the artificial seeds dehydrated to the level of 80% water loss were capable of germination. Addition of 0.1 mg/L ABA to alginate solution before encapsulation enhanced the germination percentage of those dehydrated to the level of nil to 90% water loss by up to 1.7-folds. The results suggest that ABA may enable somatic embryos to overcome physical and/or physiological restraint by encapsulation and dehydration.

  • In this paper, the limit behavior of solution for the $Schr{\ddot{o}}dinger$ equation with random dispersion and time-dependent nonlinear loss/gain: $idu+{\frac{1}{{\varepsilon}}}m({\frac{t}{{\varepsilon}^2}}){\partial}_{xx}udt+{\mid}u{\mid}^{2{\sigma}}udt+i{\varepsilon}a(t){\mid}u{\mid}^{2{\sigma}_0}udt=0$ is studied. Combining stochastic Strichartz-type estimates with $L^2$ norm estimates, we first derive the global existence for $L^2$ and $H^1$ solution of the stochastic $Schr{\ddot{o}}dinger$ equation with white noise dispersion and time-dependent loss/gain: $idu+{\Delta}u{\circ}d{\beta}+{\mid}u{\mid}^{2{\sigma}}udt+ia(t){\mid}u{\mid}^{2{\sigma}_0}udt=0$. Secondly, we prove rigorously the global diffusion-approximation limit of the solution for the former as ${\varepsilon}{\rightarrow}0$ in one-dimensional $L^2$ subcritical and critical cases.

  • It was to test the efficiency of essence containing scalp derived Leuconostoc mesenteroides extract on relieving hair loss and the possibility of the usage as the functional cosmetic's material. 41 subjects were classified as the control and test group and for 24 weeks, from Apr. 15th 2021 to Nov. 4th 2021, they were double blindness, contrast samples, single organs, and randomized human applicating tests were performed. The amount of hair had meaningful change (p<0.001) seen through phototricogram in 8,16,24 weeks each, and could tell the difference by researcher's bare eye after 24 weeks. Since there were meaningful changes (p<0.017) in subjective evaluation of the subject on after 8,16,24 weeks time, Essence which contains 1% of L. mesenteroides has efficiency on hair loss. Therefore, L. mesenteroides is expected to be used as various cosmetics to prevent hair loss.

  • In this study, estimators which shrink towards other than the origin are developed. We discuss the harmonic mean of the observations as a reasonable center and develop estimators which shrink the MLE(${\delta}^{\circ}$) towards the harmonic mean under the loss function $L_1$. The percentage reduction of average loss(PRAL) of derived estimators compared to the usual estimator(MLE) under the loss function $L_1$ is estimated for p=4 and 8. Computer simulation shows that the risk performance of the derived estiamtors is remarkably good when the means are greater than three.

  • Mass loss and changes of mineral nutrients during the decomposition of mushrooms, Russula alboareolata and Lactarius violascens, were investigated for 7d from June 29 to July 5 in 1999 in an oak stand in Kongju, Korea. At 7d after installation of litterbags, the remaining mass of R. alboareolata and L. violaxcens was 9.4% and 25.9%, respectively. The mass loss rate of R. alboareolata was significantly higher than that of L. violascens. Concentration of N, P, K, Ca and Mg of R. alboareolata and L. violascens were 37.7 mg/g, 0.97mg/g, 38.25 mg/g, 0.04 mg/g, and 0.75 mg/g for R. alboareolata and 45.7 mg/g, 1.31mg/g, 24.0 mg/g, 0.06 mg/g, and 0.80 mg/g for L. violascens, respectively. Concentrations of nutrients in R. alboareolata and L. violascens were much higher than those in the surrounding leaf litter. N, P, Ca and Mg concentrations in the decomposing mushroom tissue were higher during the experimental period in both species than initial concentrations. Potassium increased during the first 3 d and then decreased in both species. Potassium contents in the mushroom were much greater than those of Ca and Mg. Except for Ca, there was no immobilization period in all the nutrients during decomposition. At 7 d after installation of litterbags, the remaining N, P, K, Ca and Mg of R. alboareolata and L. violascens were 9.8%, 8.9%, 2.7%, 47.7%, and 14.8% of the initial contents for R. alboareolata and 28.2%,30.5%, 19.6%, 199.9%, and 02.1% for L. violascens, respectively. Nutrients could be relocated spatially during the formation and decomposition of the Basidiomycetes fruiting body.
