Objectives : This study aims to research the effect of oriental psychotherapy and treatments for reduction of Psychosomatic disorder symptoms caused by maladjustment of interpersonal relationship. Methods : We treat a patient with Oriental medical treatment (acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping and aroma therapy, oriental psychotherapy and Herb-medication) and follow up the changes of stress index for 3 times per 8 days. Results & Conclusions : After oriental psychotherapy and treatments, clinical symptoms of the patient were improved and the patient overcoming psychosomatic disorder can go back to the workplace. It is suggested that oriental psychotherapy and treatments are effective on psychosomatic disorder.

Objectives: This study was undertaken by the department of Korean neuropsychiatry, to evaluate the effects of M&L psychotherapy and Korean Medical Treatments on hospitalized North Korean defectors.Methods: We treated two patients with indigenous Korean medical therapies (acupuncture and herb-medicine) and M&L psychotherapy. Beck's Depression Inventory (BDI), Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS), Mini-mental state examination Korean Version (MMSE-K), and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) were used to evaluate the patients.Results: Following observations were made after treatments. Case 1: the patient had significant improvement in Beck's Depression Inventory (BDI), Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Case 2: similar improvements were observed. Here, the patient had undergone Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS), Mini-mental state examination Korean Version (MMSE-K), and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). In addition, noticeable improvement was observed in other accompanying symptoms.Conclusions: These results suggest that M&L Psychotherapy and Korean medical treatments might be effective for treating the psychiatric and physical symptoms of hospitalized North Korean Defectors.

Objectives: Major depressive disorder is a severe disease that is associated with suicidal ideation and behavior. In this case, Korean medicine psychotherapy and Korean medicine treatment were used to treat an adolescent patient with major depressive disorder. Methods: The Beck Depression Inventory, Reynolds Suicidal Ideation Questionnaire, and Crisis Triage Rating Scale were used as psychological evaluation scales. Korean medicine psychotherapy focuses on Giungoroen-therapy and IiGyeungByunQi-therapy and Korean medicine treatment combined with acupuncture, moxa, and herbal medicine. Results: Comparison before and after treatment showed improvement in clinical symptoms, Beck Depression Inventory, Reynolds Suicidal Ideation Questionnaire, and Crisis Triage Rating Scale. Conclusions: As a result of applying Korean medicine, psychotherapy and Korean medicine treatment reduces to an adolescent patient with major depressive disorder, depression, suicidal thoughts, and suicidal behavior.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to introduce the progress of treatment and improve clinical use after the application of Mindfulness & Loving Beingness psychotherapy, for a patient with Hwa-Byung. Methods: The patient was diagnosed with Hwa-Byung which arose as a result of their spouse's affair. The patient mainly reported chest pains, breathing difficulties, fear, and anxiety as symptoms. To address these, we administered a combination of M&L psychotherapy and Korean therapy including Herbal medicine, acupuncture, and moxibustion. Beck's Depression Inventory(BDI), Beck's Anxiety Inventory(BAI), and Hwa-Byung scale were evaluated before and after the treatment, to assess the clinical effect. Results: Following treatment, the patient's overall clinical symptoms of chest pain, breathing discomfort, fear, and anxiety were significantly reduced. Additionally, their scores on the BDI, BAI, and Hwa-Byung scales decreased. Conclusions: M&L psychotherapy and Korean therapy can be effective in treating Hwa-Byung.

The purpose of this study was to introduce a PTSD patient who experienced significant effects of mindfulness meditation and Ii-Gyeung-Byun-Qi therapy. Our psychotherapy was executed five times a week for the 14-year-old male patient who attended middle school and was diagnosed by DSM-IV Diagnostic Criteria for PTSD, and then the MMPI-A was evaluated to determine the effects after 3 months. The results showed normal profiles of MMPI-A validity scales and Clinical Scales profile after his treatment, positive changes in content scales, and significant decreases of PSYC (psychoticism) and NEGE (negative emotionality) in PSY-5 scales. This study made through a case report on the treated psychotherapy for PTSD by the applications of modern psychological techniques in the Korean psychotherapy. We expected that this case report will have a role in development of standardized psychotherapy programs for PTSD.

Objectives: The objective of this study is to report the effectiveness of Korean medicine therapy on Psychologic tremor patients with MCVT. Methods: Korean medicine therapy including MCVT, herb, acupuncture, and psychotherapy are applied to psychologic tremor patients. Vas and AIMS are used as assessment tools to evaluate the effects of therapy. MCVT is a traditional Korean medicine technique usually for chronic diseases. Similarly, autogenic training by J.H.Schultz and Giungoroen-therapy was conducted as psychotherapy. Results: In case 1, the patient lost all symptoms from vas10 to vas0, while in case 2, symptoms of the patient decreased from vas10 to vas3. Additionally, there was a significant decrease in the AIMS measurement score for both patients. Psychotherapy helped to reduce depression and anxiety. Conclusions: Psychologic tremor can be treated using Korean traditional medicine such as MCVT, Sosiho-tang and psychotherapy.

The patients were diagnosed based on DSM-IV diagnostic criteria for MDD. Beck's Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck's Anxiety Inventory (BAI), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) were used to evaluate the patients. Results: The following observations were made after treatments: Case 1: the patient showed significant improvement in Beck's Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck's Anxiety Inventory (BAI), and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Case 2: the patient showed significant improvement in Beck's Depression Inventory (BDI), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Conclusions: These results suggest that Korean medical treatments and M&L psychotherapy might be effective for treating patients suffering from MDD.

The author reviewed history and development of variable approaches of play psychotherapy. To understand basic concepts and practical factors of play, the functions of play behavior and it's clinical application were summarized. As major therapeutic approaches, both theoretical concepts and practical techniques of psychoanalytic approach and those of nondirective approach were presented. For clinician it is important to know developmental theories which can be applied to various therapeutic technics and to apply these theories to play therapy situations. So, to know the developmental approach in play psychotherapy, play as a developmental process, its' therapeutic application, play in the perspective of cognitive development and the therapeutic process of play psychotherapy were reviewed. With the knowledge of developmental concept therapists can increase their abilities to prescribe an appropriate type of play therapy.

The art psychotherapy expert system is a computer system which helps to analyse one's psychology through pictures. However we need a standard criterion because the psychology, the target of the art psychotherapy, does not only have a ambiguous criterion but also a vast range. We're going to suggest a criterion in the field of the art psychotherapy by constructing systematic database through knowledge acquirement of the art psychotherapy expert system. In this study we introduce a system which enables systematic classification and confirmation of symptoms according to mental analyses. The suggested system enables confirmation of a classical structure and systematic classification of knowledges through conversation by extracting nouns through sentence analysis from the knowledge of descriptive form based on the clinical purpose of sentence analysis.

Polarisation of biological and psychosocial aspects of psychiatry is nowadays main stream. Current knowledges of the interaction between biology and psychology make it possible to consider a truly integrative approach of the two aspects. Research findings suggest that the neuronal plasticity is the key mechanism to answer how the mental function work to an environmental stimuli and how the psychotherapeutic approach work on the brain. Advances in neuroscience research have led to a more sophisticated understanding of how psychotherapy may affect brain function. Even though there have been a tremendous efforts to find out the neurobiological mechanism of mental function, the answer is at best premature. In this article, research findings about of neuronal plasticity, implicit memory, animal studies which were associated with psychotherapy and psychological aspects were reviewed.
