However, the details are still veiled. This study investigated the characteristics of dancheong-related terms by analyzing their usages and contents based on literature records from the Joseon period. Architecturally, geumbyeok, danbyeok and dannok were used in temples, and dancheong was painted on walls. In the royal palace, danhwak was adopted while dancheong was also painted on these walls as well. Specifically, danchil was applied to the columns inside and outside buildings while hyudong was painted on rafter, walls and roof tiles. In addition, hyuchil was applied to the inside of the royal palace.

  • The purpose of this case report and review of the literature is to provide documentation on periprosthetic hip joint infection with Flavonifractor plautii (formerly known as Eubacterium plautii), a strictly anaerobic bacterium, and to report on a successful pathway for management including staged surgical revisions and extended antibiotic therapy. A systematic review of the literature was conducted, which identified this case as only the fifth documented case of human infection with this organism; as a result, conduct of further research is warranted, based on the paucity of reports in the literature addressing anaerobic periprosthetic joint infection.

  • Flow diverter (FD) is increasingly used in the management of wide necked cerebral aneurysms. Despite a reported lower efficacy in middle cerebral artery (MCA) aneurysms, they are still being utilised. Microsurgery is best considered as an index treatment, but can also be a safe and effective treatment when encountering a persistent MCA aneurysm after prior FD. As there is a paucity in literature and more cases of failed FD are expected to appear, we want to add our experience to the existing literature. The microsurgical management of a persistent MCA bifurcation aneurysm, 3 years after a p48 MW HPC Flow Diverter (phenox GmbH, Bochum Germany) insertion is reported and the relevant literature discussed.

  • Complex diseases, such as stroke and cancer, have two or more genetic influences and are affected by environmental factors, which complicate them. Due to the complex characteristics of these diseases, we must search and study comprehensive literature-based article resources. Some disease-related literature databases have been developed through specialized journal issues or major websites. Most of them, however, are scattered throughout a website, and users encounter difficulties in finding accurate and comprehensive information easily and quickly. We developed StrokeMed, an integrated literature database for stroke and the differentiation of stroke syndrome. The system allows users to explore PubMed search results, categorized by MeSH (Medical Subject Headings), and the differentiation of stroke syndrome in Oriental medicine. StrokeMed collects data from important sites, such as PubMed, Scirus, and Scopus, automatically to maintain higher-quality and updated content. Currently, the system indexes more than 20,000 PubMed abstracts that are related to stroke, stroke etiology, and Oriental medicine. The system provides valuable literature information to the scientific and medical fields in stroke.

  • In this study, I investigate the literary features and educational values of spoken travelogues by analyzing a travelogue about the Diamond Mountains by a farmer named Im, Chul-ho, a very interesting travelogue told for 70 minutes. It seems to have educational significance as a wonderful piece of literary work. The literary features of this tale can be summarized as follows. (1) It is truly 'literature of reality' which fully brings out literary appreciation; It evokes interest and emotional tension on the part of audience through vivid verbal embodiment of personal experiences; (2) It is a well constructed big story embedding small stories within it. The stories from many different travel points emerge into a whole unified story making it much richer and more attractive; and (3) It truly reflects the experiences and emotions of ordinary people. As such, it can be regarded as their spiritual property. In addition, spoken travelogues could be valuable as an object in literature education. It needs to be included in the literature curriculum and treated in the same way as written travelogues. With strengths as instructional materials, it could be effectively used to improve students' ability to express their daily experiences with literary sensibility and to make them better understand the lives of ordinary people in the past.

  • Objective: The aim of this study was to provide a systematic review of the Korean literature on the influence of herbal medicine on liver function. Additionally, we tried to estimate the change in the data on liver function tests (LFTs) and the incidence of liver injury (LI) after taking herbal medicine. Methods: Systematic literature searches were performed on 6 major Korean databases (Research Information Sharing Service (RISS), Korea Institute of Science and Technology information (KISTI), National Assembly Electronic Library, Korean Medical database (KMBASE), Korean Traditional Portal, and Dongui University Electronic Library) from January 2010 to June 2020. No restrictions were placed on the types of publications, which included grey literature. Results: The data indicate that herbal medicine might be a minor cause of LI in Korea. However the results are not supported strongly enough to verify the safety issues because of the limitations of the original studies. Conclusions: Additional well-planned studies are still needed that can overcome the heterogeneity and the considerable methodological flaws in the analyzed studies.
