  • Developing curriculum in the field of illustration is the main purpose of this study. During the past 30 years, illustration industry has achieved remarkable success in South Korea. Moreover the trends in styles are various today. Aspiring Korean illustrators were awarded prizes by authoritative international organization for their illustrated picture books lately. Regardless of achievement in the field of illustration, an adequate curriculum to educate illustrators was never developed. Facing the challenging circumstances of the 21th century, professors of illustration need to be specialized and they must study the ultimate curriculum of illustration. Since illustration is a visual language, the kernels of education for illustration are teaching the nature of visual communication, getting the objectivity of communicating and establishing a professional techniques for expression. Even though the basic formative arts training courses are fairly important to students who major in illustration, it is impossible to see the achievement with the current situation of curriculum. In order to make good products of illustration and competent illustrator, we must try to create education system which well-matched for an independent genre of illustration field. Besides 1 hope this study will be used as one of the teaching methods for the field of animation and cartoon as well as for the field of illustration.

  • The purpose of this study is to find the theories of public policy in Confucian politics during Choson Dynasty. As a result of the analysis, there are five implications. First, the area of Confucian policy of Choson consisted in authority, organization, financial policy, affection for the people, and li(ritual propriety). Second, major political context had been maintained from King Se-Jong, through King Sung-Jong and King Yeong-Jo to King Jeong-Jo in the perspective of dynasties' characteristic. Third, there were major ideas on Confucius's idea for li in early period, $Zh{\bar{u}}z{\check{i}}^{\prime}s$ idea for the authority in late period and Mencius's idea for financial policy in major risk situation. Fourth, there were five periods with establishment, foundation, crisis, restoration and collapse in the change of public policy. Fifth, $Zh{\bar{u}}z{\check{i}}^{\prime}$ and $Ch{\acute{e}}ng{\cdot}zi$ had influenced bigger than Confucius as a factors of policy making. This study has been promoted the complement of context analysis and understanding of semantic analysis with implementing dictionary using two language with Korean and Chinese.

  • Despite the rapid growth of the generative AI market and significant interest from domestic companies and institutions, concerns about the provision of inaccurate information and potential information leaks have emerged as major factors hindering the adoption of generative AI. To address these issues, this paper designs and implements a question-answering system based on the Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architecture. The proposed method constructs a knowledge database using Korean sentence embeddings and retrieves information relevant to queries through optimized searches, which is then provided to the generative language model. Additionally, it allows users to directly manage the knowledge database to efficiently update changing business information, and it is designed to operate in a private network to reduce the risk of corporate confidential information leakage. This study aims to serve as a useful reference for domestic companies seeking to adopt and utilize generative AI.

  • Automatic speech recognition (ASR) has been revolutionized with deep learning-based approaches, among which self-supervised learning methods have proven to be particularly effective. In this study, we aim to enhance the performance of OpenAI's Whisper model, a multilingual ASR system on the Korean language. Whisper was pretrained on a large corpus (around 680,000 hours) of web speech data and has demonstrated strong recognition performance for major languages. However, it faces challenges in recognizing languages such as Korean, which is not major language while training. We address this issue by fine-tuning the Whisper model with an additional dataset comprising about 1,000 hours of Korean speech. We also compare its performance against a Transformer model that was trained from scratch using the same dataset. Our results indicate that fine-tuning the Whisper model significantly improved its Korean speech recognition capabilities in terms of character error rate (CER). Specifically, the performance improved with increasing model size. However, the Whisper model's performance on English deteriorated post fine-tuning, emphasizing the need for further research to develop robust multilingual models. Our study demonstrates the potential of utilizing a fine-tuned Whisper model for Korean ASR applications. Future work will focus on multilingual recognition and optimization for real-time inference.

  • This study aims to detect the knowledge structure of Korean studies using document co-citation analysis and text mining techniques. This study divided Korean corpus into two perspectives: Self-perceived and others' perceived Korean studies. To this end, we collected 10,929 humanities and social literature containing the word Korea or Korean as a keyword in the SCOPUS database. As a result of analysis, a total of 20 subdomains were found in the knowledge structure of self-perception, and a total of 14 subdomains were found in the knowledge structure of otherts' perception. Differences in Korean Studies between two are: First, the sub-area of self-perceived Korean studies is subdivided into more diverse areas than the sub-area of other-perceived Korean studies. Second the major areas in self-perceived Korean studies are customers and services, industrialization, multiculturalism, mental health, tourism, Korean language, environment, and cities. Others' perceptions of Korean Studies are grouped into domestic and foreign situations of Korea, Korean pop culture, Koreans as US immigrants, and Korean language. Finally, the common areas of self-perception and others' perception were mental health, tourism, Korean language, North-Korean defectors, and juvenile delinquency.

  • This paper concerns the cultural tourism and the importance of cultural interpreters. Globalization has become a key word of 21st century, so the volume of tourists has been increasing. Furthermore, as the Korean wave has expanded to the world, more people are interested in Korea and Korean culture, and we observed the obvious increase of tourists. International tourists visit Korea with a variety of purposes, and their travel types are also diversified. This paper analyzes tourists' behavior based on the data provided by KNTO and briefly examines the cultural interpreters in 5 major organizations. Then considering the specific roles of the guides based on the Cohen (1985) and Lee (2011), I propose that the government should give more focus on the professional foreign language speaking interpreters for culture. As for an alternative to the present volunteering system for foreign languages, I strongly suggest multi-culture families or international students staying in Korea, for the wiser use of their abilities, their easy adaptation to the new world, and the peaceful coexistence.
