  • With the historical opening of the express rail, Korea has joined the league of France, Japan, Germany and Spain and entered into the super high-speed train era. Opening of the express rail will not only bring about enormous changes to the lives of Koreans, but it will also have a huge influence on the economic, social and cultural aspects of the country. With construction of the Seoul - Busan KTX line, railway passenger transportation capacity and freight transportation capacity will increase. Fast, safe, convenient and environmentally friendly, the express rail is a product of the latest technology and will secure its position as the newest and most preferred method of transportation for the next generation. As the traffic noise, train noise from KTX will become a social problems with the acceleration of speed and increase in the lines. In order to predict the train noise propagation from KTX, this paper presents the sound source system, the calculation model and the scale model experiment. Noise level unit patterns of a KTX that take the rolling noise, the motor noise and aerodynamic noise into consideration are simulated by the scale model experiment and numerical analysis.

  • In modern society, the range of time and space in life is continually expanding due to increase of income and diversification of life. In order to respond to these changes and to satisfy needs and to secure the mobility of citizens, the construction of transport infrastructure and public transport services should be provided continually. In particular, to ensure mobility during late-night hours, providing metropolitan public transport services is urgently needed. Due to expansion of life zone, tension of time and space of metropolitan transportation is essential to construct transport infrastructure in preparation for entry into 24-hour community. This study was based on analysis of travel resource and survey data conducted by passengers of express trains, conventional trains, and metropolitan bus. This study is to investigate use characteristics of passengers and characteristics and problems of Gyeongin-line. Moreover, this study's purpose is to suggest plans in order to improve express train operation and extend hours of the midnight express. It is also important to vitalize public transportation.

한국형 틸팅 열차 주위 유동장 수치 해석 (The Numerical Analysis off the Flow-field Around the Korean Tilting Train Express)

  • Numerical analysis of aerodynamic characteristics was differently performed according to the running situation of the Korean Tilting Train eXpress(TTX) that would be introduced for an improvement in efficiency of the used railroad track. Fluent 6.0 was used for the analysis of Non-tilting case, Tilting case and Passing-by case with the model of TTX. As a result, the aerodynamic drag had little difference between Tilting and Non-tilting case. However, pressure contour under the train of Tilting case was not symmetry because the gap between a train and the ground was different at both sides. In Passing-by case attraction and counterattraction occurred alternately and affected to the opposite train. When two trains were side by side, the maximum attraction was generated especially. Through an analysis of pressure wave in tunnel a large variation of pressure was generated by the bluff nose of TTX. The results in this study would be good data for the aerodynamic characteristic on TTX and provide important information to judgment of running safety.

공항철도 직통열차 김포공항역 추가 정차에 따른 타당성 분석 (Economic Feasibility of An Extra Stop Need at Kimpo Metro Station of AREX Express Trains)

  • 코레일공항철도는 서울역과 인천공항역을 운영하고 있으며, 열차종류로는 10개의 모든 역을 정차하는 일반열차와 시종착역만 정차하고 모든 역을 무정차 통과하는 직통열차가 있다. 직통열차의 수요는 매우 저조한데 그 원인 중의 하나로 탈 수 있는 곳이 서울역과 인천국제공항역 두 곳 뿐이기 때문이다. 이를 위해 잠재수요가 많은 김포공항역에 정차하여 9호선과 연결된 강남 수요와 5호선 수요를 수용하여 직통열차 운영수입을 증대하고자 한다. 본 연구에서는 김포공항역 정차 시 수요를 파악하기 위해 열차에 직접 탑승한 승객을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여 직통열차의 예상 수요와 정차 시스템 개선을 위한 소요비용을 도출하여 김포공항역 정차 타당성을 분석하였다. 속도변화 없이 김포역 추가 정차만 시행하는 경우 일일 938명, 속도향상과 함께 추가 정차하는 경우 1,299명의 증가가 예상되었다. 초기 시설개선비용이 많이 지출된다 하더라도 현재 표정속도를 유지한 대안 1의 경우는 5년 후, 대안 2의 경우는 6년 후부터 직통열차의 김포공항역 추가 정차에 따른 운영수익을 기대할 수 있다. 그러나 본 연구는 공항철도의 장기적인 인프라 구축이라는 관점에서 볼 때 속도향상과 병행한 김포공항역 정차가 가장 바람직할 것으로 제안되었다.

A Study on Application of Ethnography for the User Research in Designing Korean Express Train

  • Ethnography, a major research method in Anthropology, has been recently applied in human-centered design research. Since ethnography has empirical, naturalistic, holistic and eclectic characteristics, it is needed a guideline to apply ethnography into design research in accordance with a characteristic of project. Design project in which ethnography is applied can be categorized by two criteria; degree of newness of project goal(existing user-potential user) and limitedness of worksite(site-oriented-work-oriented). Among work-site activities, technology in use, and user group culture, it should be decided which content to content to focus more than others and thus what kinds of research techniques to apply in the ethnographic research.Case study was to design an interior of a Korean express train. This project is site-oriented and has an existing-potential users. Therefore, video ethnography was effectively applied to obtain chronological data of activity potential users. Therefore, video ethnography was effectively applied to obtain chronological data of activity flow, and participant observation was applied to obtain statistical data of synchronous activities. Case study shows a concrete process example of how to apply ethnography into design research.

한국형 고속철도 노선 주변 지역의 소음 지도 작성과 소음 영향 분석 (Development of a Noise Map in Neighboring Areas Around Korean Train Express Line and Analysis of the Related High Speed Railway Noise Influence)

  • The purpose of present study is to develop a noise map around Korean Train Express (KTX) line. It is also to evaluate the high speed railway noise influence in neighboring areas around KTX. In order to develop the noise map, noise source modeling and 3-D noise radiation simulation have been performed by means of SoundPLAN program. The result of the noise map has been verified in comparison with the measured noise level. Noise measurements have been performed at 15 locations around KTX line. At each locations, 6 microphones were located 1.5m and 3m above the ground at each of 25m, 50m and 75 m distances from a center of the KTX track. The noise map showed clearly the high speed railway noise influence in neighboring areas around KTX line. The present study has also showed the noise could be reduced by using noise barriers constructed at severely noise-exposed locations.

  • Tilting train has been developed to increase the operational speed of the trains on conventional lines which have many curves. This train are tilted at curves to compensate for unbalanced carbody centrifugal acceleration to a greater extent than compensation produced by the track cant, so that passengers do not feel centrifugal acceleration and thus trains can run at higher speed at curves. This paper developed PDM(product data managemnet) to make a system engineering of TTX(tilting train express) with maximum operation speed 180 km/h.

  • Express subway system is one of the effective systems adapting to improve service level. Express trains make fewer passenger stop, using a double track or a bypass track, than local trains which served all stations, Express service has been very popular with passengers who travel uninterrupted between terminals, but is has generated some dissatisfaction among passengers who experience longer waiting time on stations. This study aims at proposing the methodology to analyze changes of travel pattern in subway system adapting the express service and to estimate the time saving effects resulting from the installation of the express system. This methodology is evaluated in the fifth line under an assumpt ion that express subway system are adapted. Based on the results of the case study, the following conclusions are made: First, express system reduce a total travel time of 13% or above. Second, shorter headway of express trains increases the time saving effects on subway system. although it requests more waiting time to local train passenger. Third, an installation of Express system to Seoul subway system can augment subway demand in seoul metropolitan area.

  • MRU(motor reduction unit) for KTX is a assembled complex structure that is equipped with a lot of parts at the express train KTX and that is the core power source operating variable speeds. This study is recorded the dynamic characteristics analysis results tested by EMA which is done through the parts and assembly test, transient analysis and stoped train test in order to design the online monitoring system for KTX MRU. And the mode shapes result from critical vibration frequency explain the relation with variable speeds of express train over 250 km/hr. Also these variable speeds make variable operational frequencies at pinion, axle gear mesh frequency and normal bearing fault frequencies. As the specified speed can make resonance with natural frequencies of the MRU, for the train operating stability, this study also presents the MRU's critical speeds calculated by the each train speed.

초고속 스캔형 자기카메라에 의한 고속열차 차륜 탐상 (Inspection of Cracks on the Express Train Wheel Using a High Speed Scan Type Magnetic Camera)

  • A novel nondestructive testing (NDT) system, which is able to detect a crack with high speed and high spatial resolution, is urgently required for inspecting small cracks on express train wheels. This paper proposes a high speed scan type magnetic camera, which uses the multiple amplifying circuits and the crack indicating pulse output system. The linearly integrated Hall sensors are arrayed in parallel, and the Hall voltages from each sensor in the scanning direction are obtained and amplified. High-speed NDT can be achieved by using the exclusive analog-digital converter and micro-processor because the ${\partial}\;V_H/\;{\partial}$ x value, which provides the most important crack information, can be obtained by buffering and calculating. The effectiveness of the novel method was verified by examine using cracks on the wheel specimen model.
