Background: The purpose of this study was to analysis and to give information about the type of orthopedic manual physical therapy research by KAOMPT Journal from 1995 (Volume 1) to 2011 (Volume 17). The number of research paper were total 212 studies. Method: The studies were analysed with retrospective descriptive study. The results of data analysis was as follow; Results & Conclusion: 1. The studies was analysed 6 study field; manual therapy for disease field (130 studies), the therapeutic (16 studies), the effects of manual therapy education method, learning model (7 studies), medical insurance, history, politics of manual therapy (3 studies), and others (19 studies). 2. In the manual therapy of disease field, there were 4 groups of disease; bone disease (43 studies), soft tissue and muscles disease (57 studies), nerve disease(24 studies), and the others (6 studies). The main disease were low back pain, stroke, HIVD. 3. In the assessment, and intervention field, there were only 5 studies during from 1995 to 2000, but the studies from 2001 to 2011 were more increased 21 studies. 4. In the effects of manual therapy education method, learning model, there were very few studies (7 studies), so it will be needed more studies in this field. 5. In the other fields such as more political issue, history, medical insurance for the manual therapy there were few studies, so it will be needed more advanced studies in this field.
Objectives: The aim of this study is to establish a base for further research by reviewing studies on electroacupuncture (EA) for stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Methods: Clinical studies concerning the effects of EA for SUI, were obtained from Cochrane Library, PubMed, CNKI, RISS, NDSL, KISS and OASIS. Results: Forty-five studies met the criteria, which included 33 RCTs, 1 pilot RCT, 4 non-randomized Clinical Trials, 6 Case studies and 1 Orthogonal design study with 3638 patients. There was only one article published in Korea. In these study, the most common primary outcome measurement was the pad test. Most of the studies showed the group treated by EA effects compared to the control group. Also, many interventions that combined with EA were found and all complex therapy group had significantly better than control group. 7 studies observed adverse events (AEs), four of which referred to EA related AEs among them. And 4 studies reported no AEs associated with EA. Conclusions: Despite several limitations, various studies to prove limited yet effective EA on SUI provides much significance. Subsequent studies conducted by the complementary systematic review of the studies and well-designed clinical trials using the methodological quality will be needed to more firmly validate the therapeutic effect of EA on SUI.
Objectives This study aimed to review studies in Korean medicine for fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS). Methods We conducted search across 3 electronic databases (Korean traditional knowledge portal, RISS, Oasis) to find studies for FMS in Korean medicine. Studies of Korean medicine for FMS were included and analysed. Results 15 studies were included. 2 studies were reviews and 13 studies were case reports. Total numbers of patients in case studies were 15. In case studies, acupuncture (100%), herbal medicine (76.9%), Korean physical therapy (69.2%), pharmacopuncture (53.8%), Chuna (46.1%) and moxibustion (30.7%) etc. were used. BL23 in acupuncture and CV12 in moxibustion were most frequently used. Gamisoyo-san in herbal medicine and visual analogue scale (VAS) in outcome measure were most frequently used. Conclusions This systematic review found encouraging but limited evidence of Korean medicine for FMS. I expect various trials such as randomized clinical trial or animal experimentation and more case reports. And systemic review for FMS in other national journals is needed.
Objectives The purpose of this study is to investigate Korean clinical studies on treatment of childhood obesity and to propose for better treatment options for childhood obesity. Methods Based on RISS, KISS, OASIS, KMbase with the keyword 'childhood obesity', 'child obesity', 'obese child', 'overweight child', total of 21 randomized controlled trials (RCTs), 11 single clinical studies, 3 chart reviews and 3 case reports have been found, and were analyzed. Results and Conclusion 1. Some study subjects were classified based on their sex - only men or women in a group or sometimes both. Another way of classify the study subjects were based on their age - preschooler, primary school students, middle school students, and high school students. The diagnostic criteria of the subjects were BMI (body mass index), Body fat percentage, Obesity index, Weight and unknown criteria. 2. The treatments used in 38 studies were exercise alone, education alone, both exercise and education or herbal therapy. The 7 studies that used herbal therapy as part of their study intervention had a study group with herbal intervention only and the other 2 study group with herbal treatment in addition to exercise and education. 3. 9 studies included herb medicines, electroacupuncture, auricular acupuncture, cupping, aroma massage, infrared light, and abdomen pad. Herb medications used in 5 studies included Chegameuiin-tang 2 kinds, Sobieum, Biman-tnag, and I-razin. 4. The methods of assessment used in 38 studies were classified by 7 categories and anthropometry parameters which is the basic methods are used in all studies 5. Almost studies (29 studies in all 38 studies) were using anthropometric parameters results on significantly effectiveness of childhood obesity. 6. More studies are needed to prove true effectives from various treatments, especially herbal therapy for childhood obesity.
Objectives : To find treatment techniques and design clinical studies, this study reviewed controlled clinical studies on traditional Asian medicine treatment for childhood cancer. Methods : Literature searches were performed on four databases, such as NDSL, OASIS, PubMed, and CNKI. Studies were categorized and analyzed according to the treatment goal and we also assessed the quality of the randomized controlled trials (RCT) using Van Tulder Scale. Results : Twenty-seven studies met our inclusion criteria: 21 RCTs, 4 controlled trials, 2 Cohort studies, however only 6 among the 21 RCTs got the scores of high quality. Various interventions were used, such as herbal medicine, acupuncture, acupressure, and chuna. 7 studies were focused on cure of leukemia or solid cancer. 11 studies were performed to alleviate chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting. 9 studies were focused on other complications of chemotherapy. Conclusions : Most of the studies reported significant effectiveness of traditional medicine treatment compared to controlled group. However we could not made a definite conclusion because of the low quality and heterogeneity of the studies included. More studies should be performed to introduce traditional Asian medicine to childhood cancer treatment.

This study aimed to analyze the status of adverse events (AEs) in the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions/diseases using thread embedding acupuncture (TEA). Five electronic databases were searched to retrieve data on clinical studies published in the last 5 years (2016 to 2021). Of the 151 studies retrieved, 22 studies analyzed AEs and were selected for this review. There were no AEs reported in 6 studies (27.3%); of the remaining 16 studies, 4 studies (18.2%) reported AEs that were not related to TEA. The most common AEs reported in the Chinese studies were redness of skin with/without swelling and tingling sensation, and in the Korean studies they were stiffness, a foreign body sensation, and bruising. The percentage of patients with AE experience was 5.1% in the Chinese studies and 19.9% in the Korean studies. The discrepancies between the findings in the Chinese and Korean studies may be attribute to differences in the diameter of needles, thread materials, TEA treatment procedure, and evaluation methods for AEs. Most of the reported AEs were of a mild status and did not last for a long time. However, further research on the clinical course after TEA treatment is needed.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify patterns and trends of hardiness studies and to suggest the direction of further research. Method : Forty-seven hardiness studies were collected through internet searching and were reviewed by some criteria. Result : The results showed that hardiness studies have increased rapidly since 1990's. Eighteen studies were thesis' for degrees and others were for non-degree research studies. All studies employed the non-experimental design, particularly correlational studies. In the sampling method, all studies used non-probability sampling. Most commonly used instrument for hardiness measurement was Pollock(1986)'s HRHS. In the majority of research, hardiness was treated both as a composite measure and 3 subscales. Hardiness-related concepts were 27 and classified into 5 categories such as health behavior, stress, adaptation, support, and others. Most common statistical technique was Pearson's correlation coefficient, followed by regression, ANOVA, path analysis. Conclusion : To be utilized as practical nursing knowledge, hardiness studies should be done with more empirical analysis such as experimental research, and Meta-analysis is needed to compare the effect size and significance of composit and 3 subscales of hardiness construct.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to analyze research trends on tinea pedis in studies of Korean medicine. Methods : We searched papers using NDSL, KISS, RISS and KTKP(Korean Traditional Knowledge Portal). The first search used the keyword "Tinea pedis" in NDSL, KISS, RISS and KTKP. Used searching duration was not specified. Results : Studies found in NDSL, KISS and RISS were 122 and 118 studies were excluded. Studies found in KTKP were five papers and four studies of them were excluded. Finally five studies were selected and analyzed. Two studies of five selected ones were experimental researches and three studies were clinical researches. Among 2 researches of experimental researches, one of them was about antifungal efficacy of herbal medicines and ethahol extract of the mixture of Sophorae Subprostratae Radix, Aconiti Radix and Hibisci Syriaci Cortex and hot water extract of Phellodendri Cortex were effective. The other was about antifungal effect of the medicinal herb extraction method and vinegar extract was effective. Among 3 researches of clinical researches, there were one clinical study and two case studies. Functional soap containing herbal medicines and bee venom therapy were effective. Conclusions : As we looked for five researches, which were two experimental studies, one clinical study and two case studies. It is possible to treat tinea pedis with korean medical approach by conclusions of 5 researches. We expect that further researches will be proceeded and following results can be actively used as clinical treatments.
Purpose: Tonsillectomy is a very common surgical procedure, particularly in children. The purpose of this study was to identify current evidence in nursing research on pediatric tonsillectomy by analyzing and evaluating Korean nursing studies related to pediatric tonsillectomy. Methods: An integrative literature review of Korean pediatric tonsillectomy research was conducted. Databases were searched to identify research that related to nursing care for pediatric tonsillectomy children. Results: Of the 115 studies identified, 13 studies met the inclusion criteria for this review. All studies were experimental studies and most of those studies had a quasi experimental design. No correlational studies or qualitative studies were found. Providing nursing information and education for children and their mothers at pre, during, and post tonsillectomy by pediatric nurses were found to be effective in reducing children's pain and anxiety and their mother's anxiety and uncertainty, and increasing children's appropriate sick role behaviors and their mother's satisfaction with nursing services provided and knowledge related to tonsillectomy. Conclusion: Although most studies reported positive effects in terms of post tonsillectomy outcomes, lack of methodological rigor limits the current evidences for pediatric tonsillectomy nursing interventions. Greater attention to improve methodological rigor for Korean research on pediatric tonsillectomy is needed.
