  • Most elderly victims of senile dementia in Korea are cared for at home. This creates hardship for their families. Recent research suggests that the physical environment can affect the treatment of dementia. In light of these findings, a prudent approach to the design of the housing environment of family with dementia sufferers is advisable. This study aims to determine the design factors that need to be considered for the housing environment of dementia, particularly for those suffering from Alzheimer's or Cerebrovascular dementia. For this study, and in-depth qualitative investigation method was employed. Principal caregivers were interviewed using various investigative tools, including objective measures, structured and non-structured questionnaires. The investigation results suggest that the need for housing environment improvement varies with the severity and type of dementia. The housing needs in this study, is expected to promote a focus on improved design management for the environment and housing of dementia and their families. The results also suggest the establishment of a welfare policy for senile dementia victims and their families.

  • The current study examined the effects of early social support of first-time mothers on the home environment for their preschool-aged children via the mediation of mothers' depression. The study sample included 755 first-time mothers participating in the Panel Study on Korean Children(PSKC). Using Structural Equation Modeling(SEM), the longitudinal structure from mothers' social support when the child is one year old to the quality of the home environment when the child is 4 years old was examined. The results revealed that mothers' social support at age 1 predicted social support at age 3, which in turn predicted higher quality of the home environment for their children at age 4. The mediation of depression was also significant. Mothers' social support predicted lower levels of depression at both phases and mothers' depression was significantly associated with the quality of the home environment.

  • PCDDS and PCDFs are very stable chcmicals and have very long residence times in the environment and in organisms, including humans. Their hydrophobicity promotes accumulation in sediments and organisms, resulting in high concentrations in both sediments and organisms. Among toxicological effects reports arc teratogenicity, reduce reproduction, liver toxicity, decreased growth rate and behavioral changes (Zeise et al., 1990; Huff, 1992). PCDDs/DFs are inadvertently produced from various combustion sources and manufacturing processes, such as municipal solid waste incineration (Olie et at., 1977), motor vehicles (Marklund et al., 1987), steel mills (Tysklind et al., 1989), and chemical production processes (Hutzinger et al., 1985). • Global environment is getting deteriorated at an alarming rate. Eco-school could be one of the effective solutions to project our environment and a good sample of architecture to economize in total energies, resources and greenhouse gases. In case of our country, the study of eco-school planning is not sufficient compared with other countries, so this paper would be a good study on the indoor environment of the classroom by surveying their opinions and ideas from the group of users in school facility. The result of this study shows that the proper installation of building equipment and nature ventilation system is necessary to provide delightful environment for the students and to save the energy. To ensure that we have adequate saving and protection it is necessary to change the existing appraisal standard.

  • The HVAC takes the most important role in the Electric Multiple Unit for maintaining the healthy and comfortable indoor environment, however we also should consider the outdoor environment in terms of "environment's friendly" because the refrigerant used for the HVAC system is strongly related with the issues of "the Protection of environment" such as "the Global Warming" and "The Ozone layer Depletion". Therefore we survey (1)the potentially harmful impact on human health and the environment through modification of the ozone layer and the Green house effect, and (2)the international and the domestic environment's policies and (3)the potential alternative refrigerants usable for the EMU HVAC in terms of "the environment friendly properties", "the performance" and (4) "the applicabilities of the refrigerant for the EMU HVAC".

  • Environment education, which is a principal solution to environmental problems in the world, is being practiced in Korea through the national curricula for primary and secondary schools. However, it hasn't been effective so far to practice environment education within those schools where a variety of subjects are taught. The purpose of this study is to look for the possibility of practicing environment education and thereby to make some suggestions for effective environment education in the field of English education, which doesn't seem to have a close relationship with environment education. This study first specified prospective contents of environment education by analyzing the Seventh National English Curriculum. Then, on the basis of them, the study explored how to practice environment education in the field of English education. Finally, for effective environment education, it made some suggestions and emphasized the importance of consistent efforts.
