  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify research trends related to emotional leadership among nurse managers by conducting a systematic literature review and meta-analysis. This study sought to derive insights that could contribute to improving emotional leadership in nursing practice. Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) and Meta-Analysis Of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (MOOSE) guidelines. Databases including PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Scopus, Web of Science, Research Information Sharing Service, Koreanstudies Information Service System, Korean Medical Database, KoreaMed, ScienceON, and DBpia were searched to obtain papers published in English and Korean. Literature searches and screenings were conducted for the period December 1, 2023 to December 17, 2023. The effect size correlation (ESr) was calculated for each variable and the meta-analysis was performed using the statistical software SPSS 29.0, R 4.3.1. Results: Twenty-five (four personal, six job, and fifteen organizational) relevant variables were identified through the systematic review. The results of the meta-analysis showed that the total overall effect size was ESr = .33. Job satisfaction (ESr = .40) and leader-member exchange (ESr = .75) had the largest effect size among the job and organizational-related factors. Conclusion: Emotional leadership helps promote positive changes within organizations, improves organizational effectiveness, and increases member engagement and satisfaction. Therefore, it is considered an important strategic factor in improving organizational performance.

  • This study aimed to determine the characteristics of maternal stress during the COVID-19 pandemic. This review collected data from May 1 to August 10, 2023, focusing on literature published from 2020 on wards in English or Korean using key biomedical (PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and CINAHL) and major Korean databases (RISS, KISS, and the National Library of Korea). The searched terms were "pregnan*," "maternity," "COVID," "corona," "pandemic," "infection," and "stress," as well as their Korean equivalents. In total, 13 papers were selected. The maternal stress level generally increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. The primary factors affecting maternal stress were the medical, psychological, and socio-economic factors. Interventions for stress reduction in pregnant women during the pandemic were found to be effective, such as online education and training This study can be used as a reference for developing stress reduction programs to prepare for novel infectious disease emergencies.

  • Purpose: Periprosthetic femoral fracture (PFF) is a common complication after total hip arthroplasty, and open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) is a common surgical treatment. We conducted a meta-analysis to compare the outcomes of ORIF in patients with different fracture patterns (Vancouver B1 and B2). Materials and Methods: We conducted a systematic search of PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library and KoreaMed from inception to August 2022. We conducted a pair-wise meta-analysis (with a fixed-effects model) on the 10 comparative studies and a proportional meta-analysis on the data from the 39 articles to determine a consensus. The outcomes were the incidence of reoperations that included osteosynthesis, irrigation/debridement and revision arthroplasty. Results: The pair-wise meta-analysis showed similar outcomes between two groups; the risk of reoperation (odds ratio [OR]=0.82, confidence interval [CI] 0.43-1.55, P=0.542), nonunion (OR=0.49; CI 0.22-1.10, P=0.085) and deep infection (OR=1.89, CI 0.48-7.46, P=0.361). In proportion meta-analysis, pooled prevalence of reoperation was 9% (95% CI, 6-12) in B1 and 8% (95% CI, 2-15) in B2 (heterogeneity between two groups (Q), P=0.772). The pooled prevalence of nonunion was same as of 4% in B1 and B2 (Q, P=0.678), and deep infection was 2% (95% CI, 1-3) in B1 and 4% (95% CI, 2-7) in B2 (Q, P=0.130). Conclusion: ORIF is a feasible treatment for B1 and B2 periprosthetic femoral fractures, with acceptable outcomes in terms of, nonunion and infection. The results of this study would help clinicians and provide baseline data for further studies validating PFF.

  • There have been numerous attempts at finding factors associated with profitability among hospitals in the Republic of Korea. Factors that have been shown to be related to hospital profitability have not yet been systematically reviewed. The purpose of this study was to compile and summarize published works investigating the factors associated with hospital profitability in the Republic of Korea. We searched Research Information Sharing Service, Korea studies Information Service System, Database Periodical Information Academic, Korean Medical Database, KoreaMed, and Google Scholar from 1980 to November 2013. In addition, we manually searched reference lists from eligible studies. Review of 20 peer-reviewed articles revealed that very few of the variables employed in the eligible studies exerted consistent association with profitability, with the exception of personal cost (i.e., employee salaries). Future studies should take our findings into consideration before conducting research on hospital profitability.

  • In the era of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, countries worldwide have implemented several nonpharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) to contain its spread before vaccines and treatments were developed. NPIs included social distancing, mask wearing, intensive contact tracing and isolation, and sanitization. In addition to their effectiveness at preventing the rapid spread of COVID-19, NPIs have caused secondary changes in the epidemiology of other infectious diseases. In Korea, various NPI stages have been implemented since the first confirmed case of COVID-19 on January 20, 2020. This review, based on a PubMed database search, shows the impact of NPIs on several infectious diseases other than severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 in the COVID-19 pandemic era in Korea.

  • Objectives This study aimed to analyze the Korean medical treatment methods for Miller-Fisher syndrome from January 01, 2000 to December 31, 2021. Methods Six online databases (KISS, SCIENCEON, DBpia, RISS, KMBASE, and KoreaMed) were searched for clinical studies related to Miller-Fisher syndrome. Results Thirteen case reports were selected out of the 85 studies, and a total of 13 cases were analyzed. There were five kinds of Korean medicine treatment that were used in these studies. Acupuncture and herbal medicine were the most used interventions. Conclusions Korean medical treatment is found to be effective for Miller-Fisher syndrome. Although several limits remain, we expect that further research will be conducted to provide a better level of evidence.

  • Objective : To construct a comprehensive understanding of thepharmaceutical efficacies of ginseng, then build a basis for a research strategy for development of Korean ginseng as a globally-competitive medical product. Methods : Surveying literature, we found 1690 ginseng-focused papers in Pub-Med. Analysis of was done of number of reports according to date, nation, components of Panax ginseng, research methods, and effects of ginseng. Results : The main countries contributing toginseng research are China, Korea, Japan and America. Recently, ginseng-related studies have been increasing, and individual compounds from ginseng or its products rather than ginseng itself are subjects for study. Anti-cancer associated or neuroprotective effects showed priority in therapeutic efficacy. Panax ginseng was the focus of around 60% of all ginseng-related studies, but only 22% of them were done in Korea. Conclusion :This review will help Korean doctors or scientists to systematically understand ginseng as a powerfulherbal medicine, and to develop Korean ginseng as a globally competitive drug in world markets.
