  • Association rule of data mining techniques is the method to quantify the relevance between a set of items in a big database, andhas been applied in various fields like manufacturing industry, shopping mall, healthcare, insurance, and education. Philosophers of science have proposed interestingness measures for various kinds of patterns, analyzed their theoretical properties, evaluated them empirically, and suggested strategies to select appropriate measures for particular domains and requirements. Such interestingness measures are divided into objective, subjective, and semantic measures. Objective measures are based on data used in the discovery process and are typically motivated by statistical considerations. Subjective measures take into account not only the data but also the knowledge and interests of users who examine the pattern, while semantic measures additionally take into account utility and actionability. In a very different context, researchers have devoted a lot of attention to measures of confirmation or evidential support. The focus in this paper was on asymmetric confirmation measures, and we compared confirmation measures with basic association thresholds using some simulation data. As the result, we could distinguish the direction of association rule by confirmation measures, and interpret degree of association operationally by them. Futhermore, the result showed that the measure by Rips and that by Kemeny and Oppenheim were better than other confirmation measures.

  • This study aims to investigate the changes in the occupational structure of employment in Korea during the last three decades, in which have transformed from industrialized economy to knowledge-based economy very rapidly as well as having experiences of both IMF and financial crisis. For this purpose, we analyze the trends occupational distribution and the socio-demographic characteristics of the occupational structure of employment since 1980. By applying correspondence analysis of Multidimensional Scaling(MDS) methods, we examine the inter-relationships between the employed persons by occupation and their characteristics such as gender, age group, educational attainment, industry, region. We found the occupational structure of Korea has been changed dramatically with the socio-economic transformations during the last four decades. In particular, the occupational (job) structure has been highered in general. However, it has also been dualized extremely into two groups, one is the specialized-skilled-white color jobs and the other is the simple-unskilled-blue color jobs. The results of this study could be utilized as the importation basis for the provision of labour supply and employment policy plan at the national level as well as at the local level.

  • In order to create value for maritime tourism industry, new port infrastructures have been planned, improvements in passenger terminal services have been designed, and new maritime transport technologies have been applied, so that ports improve their efficiency and the quality of their service more than their national and international competitors. Thus, the purpose of this study is to verify the dimensions of the service quality of ocean passenger terminal. Based on a survey of 260 customers in port of Busan and Inchon, terminal service quality's five main dimensions have been checked regarding their fit with the use of Confirmatory Factor Analysis. Empirical results support that this is a valid instrument for measuring service quality of a ocean passenger terminal. The interactive sequence of computing Cronbach's alpha, corrected item-to-total correlation, and factor analysis was repeated a few times and resulted in a final set of 19 items representing five distinct dimensions-tangibles, responsiveness, knowledge, reliability, and accessibility. This finding provides the more appropriate instrument to evaluate the customers perception as well as to measure the service quality of ocean passenger terminal.

  • As socio-economic paradigms have been moving towards the knowledge-based capitalism from the industrial capitalism, it is obvious that research on industrial agglomeration and regional innovation has been explosively increased. However, there is a contradictory tendency that the terms and concepts, which are related to industrial agglomeration, have became less clear and more fuzzy. In this sense, this paper attempts to tackle and reconsider the concept, typology and theories of agglomeration and (or) cluster in economic geography. The main claims are as follows. Firstly, the terms and concepts related to industrial agglomeration and cluster need to be clear. It seems to be that cluster is received as an umbrella concept of agglomerations all-embracing the varieties of a geographical concentration of industry. However, the authors claim that the cluster concept should be part of the diverse types of industrial agglomeration. Secondly, the tendency of a less clear definition on agglomeration and cluster could make it difficult to identify the types of agglomeration being in the forms of diversity. Such a tendency would result in a misguided understanding and interpretation of a typology of agglomeration. Finally and most importantly, as perspectives or theories that are associated with industrial agglomeration and cluster show increasingly a propensity of convergence, it is problematic that related theories and perspectives lose their own identity and distinctiveness.

  • In the reality that the boundary between the real world and the virtual world disappears with the 4th Industrial Revolution, cyber crimes that occur beyond time and space have clear limitations in fulfilling their duties only with the police force of government organizations established under the real law system. The research method of this thesis is based on the literature research and the experience of security work. The purpose of this paper is to establish a social system where collective intelligence of each social field can participate voluntarily to respond to cyber crimes occurring beyond the time and space before the law and institutionalization. In addition, the social system in which collective intelligence in each social sector can participate voluntarily was established to define crime types in cyberspace in real time and to prevent crimes defined by the people themselves and the counter-measures had been proposed in order to form social consensus. First, it is necessary to establish a collective intelligent network-type cyberpolice volunteer system. The organization consists of professors of security and security related departments at universities nationwide, retired public officials from the National Intelligence Service, the National Police Agency, and the National Emergency Management Agency, security companies and the organizations, civilian investigators, security & guard, firefighting, police, transportation, intelligence, security, national security, and research experts. Second, private sector regulation should be established newly under the Security Business Act. Third, the safety guard of the collective intelligent cyberpolice volunteer system for the stability of the people's lives should strengthen volunteer work. Fourth, research lessons and legal countermeasures against cybercrime in advanced countries should be introduced. Fifth, the Act on the Protection of Personal Information, the Act on Promotion of Information and Communication Network Utilization and Information Protection, the Act on the Utilization and Protection of Credit Information, and the Special Act on the Materials and Parts Industry should be amended. Sixth, police officers should develop cybercrime awareness skills for proactive prevention activities.

  • Epidemiological studies have shown the association between transportation of live animals and the potential transmission of infectious disease between premises. This finding was also observed in the 2014-2015 foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) outbreak in Korea. Furthermore, slaughterhouses played a key role in the global spread of the FMD virus during the epidemic. In this context, in-depth knowledge of the structure of direct and indirect contact between slaughterhouses is paramount for understanding the dynamics of FMD transmission. But the social network structure of vehicle movements to slaughterhouses in Korea remains unclear. Hence, the aim of this study was to configure a social network topology of vehicle movements between slaughterhouses for a better understanding of how they are potentially connected, and to explore whether FMD outbreaks can be explained by the network properties constructed in the study. We created five monthly directed networks based on the frequency and chronology of on- and off-slaughterhouse vehicle movements. For the monthly network, a node represented a slaughterhouse, and an edge (or link) denoted vehicle movement between two slaughterhouses. Movement data were retrieved from the national Korean Animal Health Integrated System (KAHIS) database, which tracks the routes of individual vehicle movements using a global positioning system (GPS). Electronic registration of livestock movements has been a mandatory requirement since 2013 to ensure traceability of such movements. For each of the five studied networks, the network structures were characterized by small-world properties, with a short mean distance, a high clustering coefficient, and a short diameter. In addition, a strongly connected component was observed in each of the created networks, and this giant component included 94.4% to 100% of all network nodes. The characteristic hub-and-spoke type of structure was not identified. Such a structural vulnerability in the network suggests that once an infectious disease (such as FMD) is introduced in a random slaughterhouse within the cohesive component, it can spread to every other slaughterhouse in the component. From an epidemiological perspective, for disease management, empirically derived small-world networks could inform decision-makers on the higher potential for a large FMD epidemic within the livestock industry, and could provide insights into the rapid-transmission dynamics of the disease across long distances, despite a standstill of animal movements during the epidemic, given a single incursion of infection in any slaughterhouse in the country.

  • In modern society, as technology develops and industry diversifies, students can choose from a variety of career paths. Since science, technology, engineering, and mathematics require a longer education and experience than other fields, it is important to design science education policies based on the competencies required for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) occupations. This study explores the definition of science and technology manpower and STEM occupations and identifies core competencies of STEM occupations using standard job information operated and maintained by the US Department of Labor ($O^*NET$). We specially analyzed ratings of the importance of skills (35 ratings), knowledge (33 ratings), and work activities (41 ratings) conducting descriptive analysis and principal component analysis (PCA). As a result, core competencies of STEM occupations consist of STEM problem-solving competency, Management competency, Technical competency, Social service competency, Teaching competency, Design competency, Bio-chemistry competency, and Public service competency, which accounts for 70% of the total variance. This study can be a reference for setting the curriculum and educational goals in secondary and college education by showing the diversity of science and technology occupations and the competencies required for STEM occupations.
