Background: The objective was to assess the knowledge level, attitude, and practice of health care workers towards standard precautions, and to identify the related factors. Furthermore, it was attempted to identify the proportion of having the experience of needle stick injuries (NSIs) and associated factors among participants. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in a teaching hospital among 233 health workers using a self-administrated questionnaire. The questionnaire included eight knowledge items, seven practice items, and five attitude items. Based on the mean score of each category, responses were grouped into "satisfactory" and "unsatisfactory". Univariate, bivariate, and multivariable logistic regression analyses were done. Results: The mean age of the participants 32.95 (SD ± 9.70) and 62.2% of them were women. 57.5% of the staff had a satisfactory level of correct knowledge (>5 correct answers), 37.3% had a satisfactory positive attitude (>3 correct answers), and 30.9% had a satisfactory practice (>3 correct answers) towards standard precautions. The occupation was one of the predictors as doctors were less likely to have satisfactory knowledge and practice compared to nurses (OR = 0.269, 95% CI: 0.10-0.70 and OR = 0.248, 95% CI: 0.08-0.77, respectively). Out of 174 participants, 31.6% of them reported experiencing NSIs and support staff were 71% less likely to experience NSIs compared to nurses & paramedics. Conclusion: The findings revealed a substandard adherence of standard precautions among participants, which highlighted the necessity of the provision of a periodic, tailored training program based on the occupation and risk exposure.
This study discusses how to protect foreign knowledge workers from disasters conceptually. While their prestigious social and economic status, the knowledge workers can become vulnerable to disasters due to their nomadic lifestyle and voluntary isolation from communities where they reside temporarily. This study introduced and discussed strengths and weaknesses of various types of disaster communication networks and found the Small World Network (SWN) and the use of structural holes would be an appropriate strategy for the protection of knowledge workers. The use of mediators for disaster communication would be a strategic intervention from public and private organizations since that addresses voluntary isolation issue without restructuring existing disaster communication network.
This study was conducted to investigate the life style and dietary factors in high-risk of vascular diseases among workers residing in Kyungbook province. The survey was carried out on March and April, 1997 The subjects of this study consisted of fifty men aged over 30 years who were diagnosed as hypercholesterolemia(>240mg/$m\ell$) or hypertension(>160/95mmHg). In contrast, fifty healthy men were participated in this study as a control group. General environmental factors, nutrition knowledge and food behavior were investigated by questionaires through direct interviews with the subjects. Alcohol intake and smoking level of the subjects tended to be higher than those of the control, but not significantly different. Nutrition knowledge and food behavior scores of high-risk group were significantly lower than those of the control group. The smoking amount of subjects was negatively correlated with blood glucose and BMI. Alcohol consumption of subjects appeared to have a positive correlation with systolic blood pressure and BMI. The relationship of food behavior score with BMI and blood glucose were negatively correlated. Nutrition knowledge score showed a negative correlation with total cholesterol, blood glucose level, BMI and systolic blood pressure. These results suggest that efficient nutrition education programs need to be developed to prevent the cardiovascular diseases of workers.

Objectives: This study aimed to assess the impact of care workers' knowledge of elderly oral health, education on elderly oral healthcare and behavioral needs, awareness of elderly oral healthcare, and actual practices in elderly oral healthcare. Furthermore, it explores the mediating effects of elderly oral healthcare education and behavioral needs on the relationship between awareness and practice. Methods: Data were collected from October 11 to December 29, 2023, from 172 certified care workers employed in nursing hospitals and other workplaces. For analyzing the data, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and hierarchical regression were conducted using SPSS Statistics 21.0. Results: Elderly oral health knowledge, education and behavioral needs, awareness, and practice were significantly higher among: those aged 51 years and older, female, primarily working in nursing hospitals, with a total career span of 10 years, higher job satisfaction, in organizations prioritizing elderly oral healthcare, and with superior education in elderly oral health. Elderly oral healthcare education and behavioral needs had partial mediating effects on the relationship between care workers' awareness and practice of elderly oral healthcare. Conclusions: The current practices and challenges in care workers' oral healthcare for the elderly will be analyzed, and recommendations and strategies for improving practices will be formulated.

Purpose: Personal protective equipment (PPE) is critical to protect healthcare workers from pandemic outbreaks. This study was designed to identify nurses' knowledge, attitude and perceptions on PPE. Methods: Data were collected from 154 nurses working at a tertiary general hospital, where positively diagnosed and suspected patients were accepted and admitted during the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus outbreak in 2015. The PPE tool consists of 20 items for knowledge, and 5 each for attitudes and perceptions. Results: Overall, knowledge for PPE was higher than moderate (76.95/100), but there was a lack for items related to powered air purifying respirator (PAPR). For attitudes, willingness to work in pandemic outbreaks was the most positive (4.04/5.00). Goggles and PAPR were perceived as the most uncomfortable barriers to work. There was no correlation between knowledge, attitude and perceptions, despite a strong positive correlation between attitude and perceptions. PPE training was identified as a factor to improve knowledge and attitudes on PPE. Conclusion: To respond to pandemic influenza, nurses need to expand their knowledge on PPE up to Level C, and be updated through regular training. Study findings suggest that repetitive studies targeting nurses and other healthcare workers at various hospital settings are necessary.
