Effective and systematic sanitation management programs are necessary to prevent foodborne disease outbreaks in school foodservice operations. The purpose of this study was to identify the elements to improve in order to ensure the safety of school food service by evaluating sanitation management practices implemented under HACCP-based programs. The survey was designed to assess the level of hygiene practices of school food service by using an inspection checklist of food hygiene and safety. Fifty-four school foodservice establishments considered as poor sanitation practice groups from two year inspections by Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education were surveyed from September to December in 2005. Inspection checklists consisted of seven categories with 50 checkpoints; facilities and equipment management, personal hygiene, ingredient control, process control, environmental sanitation management, HACCP system and safety management. Surveyed schools scored $68.0{\pm}12.42$ points out of 100 on average. The average score (% of compliance) of each field was 10.7/20 (53.3%) for facilities and equipment management, 7.4/11 (67.2%) for personal hygiene, 7.4/11 (74.1%) for ingredient control, 22.4/32 (69.8%) for process control, 8.9/12 (73.8%) for environmental sanitation management, 4.2/7 (59.7%) for HACCP systems management, and 7.2/8 (89.7%) for safety management, respectively. The field to be improved first was the sanitation control of facilities and equipment. The elements to improve this category were unprofessional consultation for kitchen layout, improper compartment of the kitchen area, lacks of pest control, inadequate water supply, poor ventilation system, and insufficient hand-washing facilities. To elevate the overall performance level of sanitation management, prerequisite programs prior to HACCP plan implementation should be stressed on the school officials, specifically principals, for the integration of the system.

For many years, $NO_2$ has been regarded as one of the elements among indoor air pollutants of urban homes, leading to increased public concerns on this gas. For the purpose of preparing the fundamental data for the evaluation and control of health effect relevant to $NO_2$ levels, authors measured the indoor (kitchen, living room, bed room) and outdoor $NO_2$ levels categorized by the type of house(apartment, detached dwelling) and cooking fuel(L.P.G., briquette) in the winter and summer, and surveyed the variables(kitchen ventilation, family size, parental smoking) may effect the indoor $NO_2$ levels. The level of $NO_2$ was measured by Palmes tube, and this survey was carried out at 110 homes in the Pusan area from October 1984 to September 1985. The obtained results were as follows: 1) The mean indoor and outdoor $NO_2$ level in winter and summer, respectively, was $0.029{\pm}0.012$ ppm and $0.022{\pm}0.012$ ppm in the kitchen, $0.022{\pm}0.009$ ppm and $0.018{\pm}0.010$ ppm in the living room, $0.017{\pm}0.008$ ppm and $0.016{\pm}0.010$ ppm in the bed room, and $0.021{\pm}0.007$ ppm and $0.016{\pm}0.007$ ppm outdoors. 2) In the category of the type of house and cooking fuel, the highest mean indoor and outdoor $NO_2$ level in the winter was in apartments using briquettes, and in the summer. the highest level was in apartments using L.P.G. 3) In the category of the type of house, the mean indoor and outdoor $NO_2$ level in the winter and summer was higher in the apartment group compared to detached dwelling. 4) In the category of the type of cooking fuel, the mean indoor and outdoor $NO_2$ level in the winter was higher in the briquette group, and in the summer, the L.P.G. group was higher. 5) In the category of the kitchen ventilation, family size, parental smoking and asthma attack history of children, there was an insignificant difference in the indoor $NO_2$ levels.
This study had the purpose of presenting a residential environment solution as a desirable educational environment for middle school students to grow soundly and to achieve proper self-realization while providing basic materials to build up a suitable residential environment by comparing and analyzing what relationships exist between different home backgrounds, residential environments and middle school students' social maturity. This research was conducted from Feb. 11, 2008 to Feb. 13, 2008. The subject of this research was 601 students in 3 middle schools located in Gyunggi-do. The data analyzed used the SPSS 11.5 version. The summary of this study's results is as follows. First, in terms of home background, the higher the parents' educational background and social and economic position, the greater the students' social maturity. Second, in terms of home environment, the more spacious the living space, the better the water and sewage system and rest room, the more convenient the air conditioner and kitchen system, the better the lighting, ventilation, soundproofness, insulation, the less the danger in relation to fire, crime, traffic accidents, disaster, the greater the students' social maturity. Third, in terms of the home environment related to the correlation between the residential environment and social maturity, all areas such as housing facilities, housing structural environment and housing safety showed static correlations and proved that the residential environment has an important influence on social maturity. Accordingly, in order to build up an ideal residential environment, we should make efforts to expand and improve better facilities at home considering privacy, lighting, ventilation, soundproofness, heating etc. and remove unsound factors that obstruct students social maturity and build up clean and safe residential environment with good relations with their neighbors.

This study aims to figure out the old people's needs for modification of their housing to maintain an independent lifestyle despite their health status and living arrangements. The total of 438 residents take part in the questionnaire survey research through the quota sampling method grouped by age (60-64 group, 65-69 group, 70-74 group, and over 75 group), sex (male and female), and house type (apartment houses and others). The results are as follows. (1) The old people's most inspired modification needs in interior spaces are remodeling the heating controls in the living room and the bedroom, ventilation facilities and storage spaces in the kitchen, non-slip tile flooring and ventilation facilities in bathroom, an easy door-lock, non-slip tile flooring, a draft cut-off, and storage spaces in the entrance. Besides they require emergency alarm, easy door and window locks, fire and gas alarm, and furniture with easy handling. It is necessary to supply the aged with the appropriate heating controls for their sensitivity to heat, with enough storage spaces for the increased possessions, and with diverse safety systems reflected blunting of mobility and sensibility. (2) As they grow older, the aged require more remote controls and safety facilities such as emergency alarm, easy locks and furniture with distinguishable colors. Male elderly is more concerned with safety, while female elderly do with convenience due to their different time spending in the house. The elderly residents in the apartment houses require the heating controls, a draft cut-off, and storage space less than other types of houses. Thus modification of the heating controls, a draft cut-off, and storage space are regards as basic needs for the elderly residents in non-apartment houses.
The final aim of this study was to propose guidelines for the indoor environment of apartment remodeling projects. The first task of this study was to understand the major elements and the actual condition of the remodeling for apartment unit by carrying out in-depth interviews on residents and specialists. The open-access interviews were conducted with interior designers who have a wide experience of apartment remodeling and residents who live in recently remodeled apartment units. The second task was to evaluate the actual condition of the indoor environment and to analyze the main factors that affect the indoor environment in remodeled apartment units. Field measurements were carried out in twenty apartment units occupied after remodeling, recording indoor environment elements (indoor temperature, globe temperature, relative humidity, $CO_2$, CO, PM10, TVOC, HCHO, illumination, and equivalent noise level). Moreover, resident interviews and researcher observations were carried out to determine the contents of the remodeled unit and to investigate the architectural and living factors(like ventilation characteristics, etc.) related to the indoor environment. The results are as follows. The remodeling elements generally included the changing of lighting fixtures and finishing materials in all the spaces, the integration of the balcony into the children's room, the installation of furniture in the kitchen and the entrance, the changing storage furnitures and equipments in the bathroom. The average levels of each unit of relative humidity, $CO_2$, TVOC, HCHO, equivalent noise level, and illumination were proved to be on the whole in inadequate condition. The factors that affect these indoor elements were classified as remodeling factors (remodeling amounts, extent balcony integration, and lighting fixture exchange), ventilation characteristics, and living factors. According to these results, this research proposed the guidelines for the indoor environment in apartment remodeling projects.

This study aims to present the fundamental strategies to improve the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) in apartment buildings. To investigate the concentration of indoor air pollutants such as radon, formaldehyde, and VOCs, both the document survey and the field measurement were conducted. In addition, to identify the source of the air pollutants, the laboratory experiment was carried out for various building materials. Finally, the minimum period to be reserved befor3e building occupation to ensure healthy IAQ, which largely depends on the ventilation rates, was simulated using a simple compuer program. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: 1. In case of newly-constructed apartment houses, concentrations of formaldehyde, VOCs and radon were found to exceed the standard. Meanwhile, at existing apartment houses, concentrations of VOCs, particularly toluene and xylene, highly exceeded the standasrd level. Concentrations of formaldehyde and radon, however, had been lowered according to the duration of occupation. 2. The laboratory experiment of concentration of pollutants per square meter of building material surface area showed that radon gas was much emitted from the gypsumboard; formaldehyde from flooring and wallpaper; and VOCs from paints and kitchen furnishings. The emission rates of formaldehyde and VOCs were proportional to air temperature. 3. According to the simulation of the minimum period to be reserved before occupation, newly-constructed airtight houses required about 190-200 days, and naturally ventialted houses with fully-open-windows required about 20-45days, in order to keep the level of radon gas lower than standard. Therefore, with the current practice, the date of occupation should be delayed for about 15 days.
The purpose of this research is to analyze characteristics and related factors of IAQ (Indoor Air Quality) in newly built wooden houses by measuring pre and post occupancy. The subjects were five wooden houses which were built with similar materials and completed from July to December 2013. Measuring factors were TVOC, HCHO, PM10, $CO_2$, CO, indoor temperature, and relative humidity. As the result of pre occupancy measuring, the houses that revealed the lowest TVOC concentration or HCHO concentration were satisfied with "the standard for newly built apartment houses". Therefore, IAQ by the wooden structures is considered to be in good condition. However, in cases of partial value exceeded the standard, the reason is analyzed to be the materials of molding, wrapping doors, built-in closet, or kitchen furniture, etc. rather than structure materials. Most PM10 concentration level showed slightly below "the standard for occupied multi-use facilities". Remaining of construction dust was considered to be the reason. As the result of post occupancy measuring, every value except of one subject's TVOC concentration was lower than pre occupancy, explaining the importance of natural ventilation.
This study investigated the windows and doors of Jecheon Park Dosu's House and Jecheon Jeong Wontae's House, designated as a Important Folklore Cultural Heritage in Jecheon. It aimed to contribute to the study of traditional house, and to the conservation policy of architectural Heritage in Jecheon. This study used the research methods of the literature analysis and the field survey, and it was to analyze the spatial characteristics of the windows and doors in each building. The result are as followings. Firstly, the wooden board door(板張門) of a hinged door type is found in the kitchen of An-chae, and the Bongchang(封窓) and Gwangchang(光窓) towards the courtyard is installed for ventilation and lighting. Secondly, the slender-ribbed windows and doors(細箭 窓戶) of double swinging type towards the courtyard is installed in An-bang, and Merum(遠音) is found. Thirdly, the framed panel door(骨板門) of a hinged door type towards the backyard is found in Daechung(大廳). Lastly, the slender-ribbed windows and doors of double swinging type towards the outside is found in Sarang-bang of Sarang-chae, and Merum(遠音) is installed. Especially, double skin windows and doors is installed in Jecheon Park Dosu's House.
The purpose of this study is to find out understand the resident's subjective responses to physical indoor environment. The questionnaire survey was carried out to measure form Jan. 8th to Feb. 2th in 1996, the typical external climate of winter in Korea. The subjects were four hundred and eleven housewives, living in apartments of RC structure I Ilsan apartment complex. As the result, residents usual ventilate once or twice a day by opening outward windows for about ten minutes. Unpleasant smell producted by cooking and wet garbage made most of them negatively respond to kitchen's air quality. regression analysis of relativeness between sense of air freshness smell, dust and comfort revealed that sense of comfort was the most highly related with the extent of bad smell. Housing factors such as size of apartments and ventilating, smoking and gas usage had significant effects on indoor air quality and the subjective responses in winter. Therefore it is especially important to consider air pollution problem from the beginning stage when planning small apartments. It is required that the government of environment has to emphasize the importance of ventilation to residents, and makes an effort to establish the design criteria on indoor air quality in house.

This study aims at finding the trend changes of spatial configuration in housing units of Korean apartments in the 2000s. Among the housing units in the apartments built by large construction companies, we have selected ones with small and regular sizes, $59m^2$ and $84m^2$ respectively, and investigated the number of bays, the location of wet zone and the spatial flexibility in the housing units selected for analysis. In conclusion, the number of bays in the housing unit has gradually increased, after allowing for the structural change of the balcony in the legal. It is estimated that the trend has came from the intent to increase the numbers of the externally exposed surfaces of the balcony, ensure a good view, lighting, ventilation and spatial flexibility. The location of wet zone, water-needed space such as a bathroom or a kitchen, has changed in the direction to facilitate the expansion and modification of space. Variable range of space has gradually expanded by using the balcony and wet zone as much as possible. In order to configure more effectively spaces in housing environments, the future study should be implemented to develop tools for realizing sustainable housing environment at the levels of not only the housing unit. but also the entire building, housing site, and city.
