COMS(Chollian) satellite which was launched on June 26, 2010 has three payloads for Ka-band communications, geostationary ocean color imaging and meteorological imaging. In order to make efficient use of the geostationary satellite, a concept of mission operations has been considered from the beginning of the satellite ground control system development. COMS satellite mission operations are classified by daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal operations. Daily satellite operations include mission planning, command planning and transmission, telemetry processing and analysis, ranging and orbit determination, ephemeris and event prediction, and wheel off-loading set point parameter calculation. As a weekly operation, North-South station keeping maneuver and East-West station keeping maneuver should be performed on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively. Spacecraft oscillator updating parameter should be calculated and uploaded once a month. Eclipse operations should be performed during a vernal equinox and autumnal equinox season. In this paper, operational validations of the major functions in COMS SGCS are presented for the first three month of in-orbit test operations. All of the major functions have been successfully verified and the COMS SGCS will be used for the mission operations of the COMS satellite for 7 years of mission life time and even more.

In this study, an active element pattern (AEP) of a printed dipole was analyzed in 1D and 2D arrays. First, an AEP of the printed dipole was obtained using the simulation in the 2D infinite array. The scan blindness in the 2D array occurred in the E-plane direction at around ${\pm}36^{\circ}$; however, it was barely observed in the 1D array. To analyze the cause of the scan blindness in the 2D array, the dispersion properties of a unit cell was obtained and compared with the scan blindness by frequency change. The difference between the scan blindness of the 1D and 2D arrays was clarified using the comparison of the Q value in the unit cell in the 1D and 2D arrays. Then, the coupling of the electric field in the E-plane direction was observed when nine elements were separated between the two ports in a linearly arranged dipole structure. Finally, the printed dipole array was fabricated, and an AEP was measured for the $11{\times}1$ and $11{\times}3$ sub arrays. The proposed theory was verified using these observations and by comparison with the simulation results.
Engineering qualification model payload for a communications and broadcasting satellite(CBS) was developed by ETRI from May, 2000 to April, 2003. For. the purpose of functional test and verification of the payload, a real-time hardware-in-the-loop(HITL) CBS simulator(CBSSIM) was also developed. We assumed that the spacecraft platform for the CBSSIM is a geostationary communication satellite using momentum bias three-axis stabilization control technique based on Koreasat. The payload hardware is combined with CBSSIM via Power, Command and Telemetry System(PCTS) of Electrical Ground Support Equipment(EGSE). CBSSIM is connected with PCTS by TCP/IP and the payload is combined with PCTS by MIL-STD-1553B protocol and DC harness. This simulator runs under the PC-based simulation environment with Windows 2000 operating system. The satellite commands from the operators are transferred to the payload or bus subsystem models through the real-time process block in the simulator. Design requirements of the CBSSIM are to operate in real-time and generate telemetry. CBSSIM provides various graphic monitoring interfaces and control functions and supports both pre-launch and after-launch of a communication satellite system. In this paper, the HITL simulator system including CBSSIM, communications payload and PCTS as the medium of interface between CBSSIM and communications payload will be described in aspects of the system architecture, spacecraft models, and simulator operation environment.

In this paper, we introduce the results of the testing and observation systems for performance wideband expansion in the Korean VLBI Network(KVN). The KVN performs VLBI observations to 1024 Mbps data rate, and 8192 Mbps observing for four simultaneous observation is now evaluating for normal operation. The VLBI stations in several world countries developed their own wideband observing systems to observe the celestial objects with high precision and high resolution or are working with several countries. The KVN is planning to introduce a high-speed sampler, OCTAD, for sampling directly up to 2048 MHz bandwidth for RF signal of K/Q/W/D band in the frequency band without conversion. Therefore, as a preliminary study for the performance scalability of the KVN then through the close cooperation with National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ), the OCTAD high-speed sampler and OCTADISK2 high-speed recorder were installed in the KVN Yonsei station, and verify the performance through a wideband.

A 2-stage MMIC(monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits) LNA(Low Noise Amplifiers) at 30GHz hand has been designed and fabricated for the Ka-band Satellite Communications. The $0.15 {\mu}m$ with the width of $80 {\mu}m$ pHEMT technology was used for the fabrication of this MMIC LNA. Using the series feedback technique, ultra low noise and excellent S11 could be obtained at the same time without the cost of gain at 30GHz-band. The stability factors(Ks) for each stage and overall stage are greater than 1 at full frequency bands by the bias circuits and stabilization circuit. The measured performances, which agree well with the predicted performances, show this 2-stage MMIC LNA has the gain of more than 15.7dB and noise figure of less than 2.09dB over 29GHz to 33GHz.

In this paper, by embedding a bare-die chip-type drive amplifier into the PCB composed of ABF and FR-4, it implements an embedded active device that can be applied in 28 GHz band modules. The ABF has a dielectric constant of 3.2 and a dielectric loss of 0.016. The FR-4 where the drive amplifier is embedded has a dielectric constant of 3.5 and a dielectric loss of 0.02. The proposed embedded module is processed into two structures, and S-parameter properties are confirmed with measurements. The two process structures are an embedding structure of face-up and an embedding structure of face-down. The fabricated module is measured on a designed test board using Taconic's TLY-5A(dielectric constant : 2.17, dielectric loss : 0.0002). The PCB which embedded into the face-down expected better gain performance due to shorter interconnection-line from the RF pad of the Bear-die chip to the pattern of formed layer. But it is verified that the ground at the bottom of the bear-die chip is grounded Through via, resulting in an oscillation. On the other hand, the face-up structure has a stable gain characteristic of more than 10 dB from 25 GHz to 30 GHz, with a gain of 12.32 dB at the center frequency of 28 GHz. The output characteristics of module embedded into the face-up structure are measured using signal generator and spectrum analyzer. When the input power (Pin) of the signal generator was applied from -10 dBm to 20 dBm, the gain compression point (P1dB) of the embedded module was 20.38 dB. Ultimately, the bare-die chip used in this paper was verified through measurement that the oscillation is improved according to the grounding methods when embedding in a PCB. Thus, the module embedded into the face-up structure will be able to be properly used for communication modules in millimeter wave bands.

A low power single-chip CMOS receiver for 60 GHz mobile application are proposed in this paper. The single-chip receiver consists of a 4-stage current re-use LNA with under 4 dB NF, Cgs compensating resistive mixer with -9.4 dB conversion gain, Ka-band low phase noise VCO with -113 dBc/Hz phase noise at 1 MHz offset from 26.89 GHz, high-suppression frequency doubler with -0.45 dB conversion gain, and 2-stage current re-use drive amplifier. The size of the fabricated receiver using a standard 0.13 ${\mu}m$ CMOS technology is 2.67 mm$\times$0.75 mm including probing pads. An RF bandwidth is 6.2 GHz, from 55 to 61.2 GHz and an LO tuning range is 7.14 GHz, from 48.45 GHz to 55.59 GHz. The If bandwidth is 5.25 GHz(4.75~10 GHz) The conversion gain and input P1 dB are -9.5 dB and -12.5 dBm, respectively, at RF frequency of 59 GHz. The proposed single-chip receiver describes very good noise performances and linearity with very low DC power consumption of only 21.9 mW.

The existing effective path-length model of ITU-R has some drawbacks: The prediction error is quite large compared to domestic measurement data and it is an empirical model in which the physical characteristics of rain cells are not considered. In this paper, a theoretical model for effective path-length using the rain-cell concept was proposed and its validity was verified using the measurement data. To analyze the statistical characteristics of rain cell parameters, the weather-radar data(CAPPI) measured by Korea Meterological Administration were analyzed and the correction factor was properly introduced to fit the Chollian beacon measurement data of ETRI(Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute). To verify the proposed effective path-length model, it was compared with the Mugunghwa No. 5 beacon data measured in Chungnam National University with the support of ADD(Agency for Defense Development). It was confirmed that the prediction results of the proposed model are in good agreement with the measurement data.
