As the Wenchuan Earthquake was of high magnitude and shallow seismic focus, it caused great damage and serious geo-hazards. By the field investigation and remote-sensing interpretation after the earthquake and by using means of GIS, the distribution of geo-hazards triggered by the earthquake was analyzed and the conclusions are as follows: (1) the earthquake geo-hazards showed the feature of zonal distribution along the earthquake fault zone and linear distribution along the rivers; (2) the distribution of earthquake geo-hazards had a marked hanging wall effect, for the development density of geo-hazards in the hanging wall of earthquake fault was obviously higher than that in the foot wall and the width of strong development zone in the hanging wall was about 10 km; (3) the topographical slope was a main factor which controlled the development of earthquake geo-hazards and a vast majority of geo-hazards were distributed on the slopes of 20 to 50 degrees; (4) the earthquake geo-hazards had a corresponding relationship with the elevation and micro-landform, for most hazards happened in the river valleys and canyon sections below the elevation of 1500 to 2000 m, particularly in the upper segment of canyon sections (namely, the turning point from the dale to the canyon). Thin ridge, isolated or full-face space mountains were most sensitive to the seismic wave, and had a striking amplifying effect. In these areas, collapses and landslides were most likely to develop; (5) the study also showed that different lithologies determined the types of geo-hazards, and usually, landslides occurred in soft rocks, while collapses occurred in hard rocks.
This study, regarding curved channel, was performed to compare and analyze hydraulic characteristics and the speed of water and water level for left bank and right bank through hydraulic model experiments and numerical analysis. Real channels that had characteristics of curved channel were selected as objectives. In order to easily operate one and two dimensional numerical analysis and comparison for total 2.4Km model channel, measuring point was set up as 200m. HEC-RAS model was applied as one dimensional numerical analysis program and SMS model was used as two dimensional numerical analysis program. In respect of speed of water, the average speed of water for right bank recorded 8.33m/s in a model experiment and 3.08m/s, 8.57m/s were average speed of water for right bank in one dimensional and two dimensional numerical analysis. The average speed of water of two dimensional numerical analysis was quite similar to that of model experiments. Also, as for water level, maximum observational errors between one and two dimensional numerical analysis for right and left bank of model experiments were 0.66m, 0.84m and 0.28m, 0.48m for each. It was found that two dimensional numerical analysis had a similar result to hydraulic model experiments. Accordingly, from the result of this study, two dimensional numerical analysis should be used rather than one dimensional numerical analysis, when numerical analysis for curved channel is conducted.

Currently many safety assessment tests are conducted by crashing a vehicle against a rigid or deformable barrier. It is quite rational to evaluate crash performance of a vehicle in a barrier test in terms of vehicle stiffness and strength. However, there has been a lot of debate on whether barrier testing is a duplicate of real world crash collisions. One of the issues is car to car compatability. There are two essential subjects in compatability. One is partner-protection when crashing into another vehicle and the other is self-protection when struck by another vehicle. When considering a car to car frontal crash between a mini car and a large heavy car, it is necessary to evaluate human body stiffness of each vehicle. In this study, in order to evaluate the compatability of cars in car-to-car crashes, four tests were conducted. Test speed of each car is 48.3km/h, and the overlap of the mini and large car is $40\%$, and the overlap of the small cars is $100\%$. In all tests, only a drive dummy is used. The test results of the car to car crash test show that vehicle safety standard of mini car is not satisfied compared with large heavy car and HIC value of mini car is higher than large car. In this case observed that the relatively lower stiffness and weight of the mini car resulted in absorbing a large share of the total input energy of the system when crashed into the large heavy car.

Sediment discharge by long-term runoff in the Nakdong River watershed should be predicted for the maintenance and management of the Nakdong River newly changed by the four major river restoration project. The data establishment by the analysis of runoff and sediment discharge using the long-term watershed model is necessary to predict possible problems by incoming sediments and to prepare countermeasures for the maintenance and management. Therefore, sediment discharges by long-term runoff in the main points of the Nakdong River were calculated using SWAT(soil and water assessment tool) model and the relations and features between rainfall, runoff, and sediment discharge were analyzed in this study. As a result of sediment discharge calculation in the main points of the Nakdong River and tributaries, the sediment discharge at the outlet of the Naesung Stream was greater than the Jindong Station in the Lower Nakdong River from 1999 to 2008 except the years with low precipitation. The sediment discharge at the Nakdong River Estuary Barrage (NREB) was corresponding to 20% of the Jindong Station which is located about 80 km upstream from NREB.

The improvement of adaptation capability against heat island (ACHI) by greening buildings is considered as an important measure to cope with a climate change. This study aimed to select the most appropriate zones for green roof initiative in case study sites, Bucheon, Anyang, and Suwon Cities and to investigate the characteristics of buildings for greening to improve ACHI. Relative ACHI for each lot was estimated from 0 to -9, assuming that it decreases with the distance from green space and waterbody. Low adaptation capabilities were mostly shown in the old urban blocks with dense low-rise buildings and lack of green space. Three blocks with the lowest ACHIs were chosen as a green roof initiative zone in each city. They are largely residential areas including low-rise buildings such as single, multi-household houses, townhouses, 5 or lower story apartments and few are industrial areas crowded with small factory buildings. The areas of building roof available for greening are 8.8% within the selected zones in Bucheon City, 5.3% in Anyang City, and 4.9% in Suwon City. As it were, 25.2~41.7% of the roof top areas are available for greening in these zones. It means that roof top areas of $25,000{\sim}120,000m^2$ can be used for greening within the selected zones of $0.64{\sim}1.65km^2$ to improve ACHI. The approach and results of the study are significant to provide a logical basis and information on location, scale, effect, and target figure of greening as a measure to cope with climate change.

This study was carried out to investigate the current urban forest network and future plan of forest framework using nearest features program where stepping stones within 5km from the core forest were selected in the program. We found several conclusions as follows: First, we found that cities in inland area including Daegu, Dajeon and Gwangju have quite different types of forest network with comparing to the cities nearby coastline including Busan, Incheon and Ulsan. The cities in inland area have large mountain patch around each city. However they have small and lower number of island forests within their urban area. Otherwise, cities nearby coastline have more forest patches than in the cities in inland area, and Busan and Incheon especially have strong forest network using various size of forest patches. Second, Daegu and Daejeon have much smaller forest patches distributed in each urban area. So additional forest patches should be added to have highly strong forest network within urban area. Third, Ulsan and Gwangju have most stepping-stone forests close to the large mountain patches in suburban area, which are not able to connect to the forest patches in the central area of each city So additional forest patches are needed to be added in the central area of each city for reinforcing the effect of stepping stone in the central area. Though there should be an addition approach except for forest size and its isolation to construct the ecological network in an urban area, this indices can be a good method to check an environmental and ecological status in an urban area.

This study was conducted to quantitatively evaluate and analyze the alternative habitats using the HSI(Habitat Suitability Index) model of Lutra lutra in Banbyeoncheon Stream. Six variables were selected as habitat variables for Lutra lutra, including distance from waterfront, land cover within 1km from waterfront, presence of alluvial island, area of inland water and wetland, distance from roads and urbanized arid areas, and distance from aquaculture farm. The SI(Suitability Index) model and HSI model were developed based on the existing literature of Lutra lutra, the results of field surveys and expert opinions, and applied to the alternative habitats to examine the applicability of the HSI model. The results of this study can provide information on habitat evaluation to prevent the extinction of endangered Lutra lutra. In particular, it is highly applicable to the selection and evaluation of alternative habitats for Lutra lutra.

This study was done to evaluate resources distributed around the Nakdong-Jeongmaek which is the eastern ridge line of the Nakdong-river basin with 437km in length. Here we found and/or searched for thousands of resources within each of 210 villages around the ridge, which were divided into six categories including landscape, natural park, protected area, history, tourism and biodiversity. An inventory was also created using an attribute table in a shape file for identifying the spatial location and property for every resource existing in each village. Each of fields for six-typed resources has 210 records representing each village and resources within it. If a resource exists in a village, '1' is assigned for its existence in its corresponding record. Otherwise, '0' is assigned for its non-existence in the record. The number of '1' on six records for a village is meaning the number of resources contained within a village, which can be a barometer to decide the properties of each village. In this study, we found five core villages containing all kind of resources in it, while 52 villages were found having only a single type of resources within it. The other villages were known to have multiple resources like having two or more ones.
The proteolytic enzyme from Saccharomyces sp. B101 was purified to homogeneity by ammonium sulfate fractionation, ultrafiltration, diethyl aminoethyl (DEAE)-Sephadex A-50 ion-exchange chromatography, and Sephadex G-100 gel filtration chromatography from the culture supernatant of Saccharomyces sp. B101. The specific activity and the purification fold of the purified enzyme were 4,688.9 unit/mg and 18, respectively. The molecular weight of the purified enzyme was estimated to be 33 kDa by sodium dodecylsulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). The optimum pH and temperature for the enzyme activity were pH 8.5 and $30^{\circ}C$, respectively. The enzyme activity was relatively stable in the pH range of 6.5-8.5 at below $35^{\circ}C$. The salt-tolerance and stability for the enzyme activity were relatively stable even at NaCl concentrations of 10 and 15%. The activity of enzyme was inhibited by $Ag^{2+}$ and $Fe^{2+}$, and activated by $Mn^{2+}$. In addition, the enzyme activity was potently inhibited by ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and phenylmethyl sulfonylfluoride (PMSF). Based on these findings we concluded that the purified enzyme was a serine protease. Km and Vmax values for hammastein milk casein were 1.02 mg/mL and 278.38 unit/mL, respectively.
The development of a new railway vehicle is under progress through the Next Generation High-Speed Rail Development Project in Korea. Its aim is to develope fundamental technology of the vehicle that can run over 400km/h. The new distributed traction bogie system, 'HEMU'(High-speed Electric Multiple Unit), will be used and is different from that of previously developed high speed railway vehicles. Previous vehicles adopted push-pull type system, which means one traction-car drives rest all of the vehicle. Due to the difference, investigation on dynamic behavior and its safety evaluation are necessary, as a part of verification of the design specification. In the paper, current progresses of researches are presented. And the High-Speed Railway vehicle system is evaluated for a dynamic characteristic simulation. Proper dynamic models including air-suspension system, wheel-rail, bogie and car-body is developed according to the vehicle simulation scenario. The basic platform for the development of dynamic solver is prepared using nodal, modal coordinate system and wheel-rail contact module. Operating scenario is prepared using commercial dynamic analysis program and used for development of dynamic model, which contains many parts such as carbodies, bogies and suspension systems. Furthermore, international safety standard is applied for final verification of the system. Finally, the reliability of the dynamic model will be verified with test results in the further researches. This research will propose a better solution when test results shows a problem in the parts and elements. Finally, the vehicle that has excellent performance will be developed, promoting academic achievement and technical development.
