  • Purpose: The purpose of this paper (a literature review study) was to confirm the trend of nursing research for head and neck cancer patients in Korea. Methods: Research databases were reviewed and analyzed from 13 papers (2004 through 2019 using KISS, NDSL, RISS, DBpia, and the National Assembly Library. As a result of this paper, we found that there were many studies that used questionnaires. Results: Measurement variables related to head and neck cancer patients were physical variables related to oral condition, psychological variables related to depression and anxiety, social support, family support related to family, and quality of life as a result variable. Conclusion: Therefore, integrated nursing intervention strategies and clinical nursing research considering the physical, psychological, social, and family aspects of head and neck cancer patients are needed. Based on the results of this study, we propose qualitative research on head and neck cancer patients, development of educational programs, intervention studies to verify effects, and development of clinical practice guidelines.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze acupuncture treatment methods and acupoint used to treat infertility in the last decade. The data were retrieved from 2010.1 to 2021.8. using national and international electronic databases (PubMed, EMBASE, OASIS, NDSL, and KISS). "Infertility," "sterility," "acupuncture," "electroacupuncture," "bloodletting," "pharmacopuncture," were used as search terms. All studies were mainly concerned with acupuncture treatment of infertility, but the studies which were not related included; (1) infertility or acupuncture treatment; (2) animal studies; (3) review/meta/protocol or clinical study; comparative studies and case reports which were excluded from this review. Only clinical trials for acupuncture treatment of infertility were included in this review (n = 18). For infertility treatment studies using acupuncture, polycystic ovarian syndrome was the main cause of infertility, the most common acupoint used was CV4, CV3, CV6, SP6, BL23, and the treatment effect significantly improved in the group receiving acupuncture treatment compared with the control group, or the group taking Western medicine alone. In some studies, the group using acupuncture treatment did not show side effects. Acupuncture is an effective treatment for infertility.

  • Low-level laser therapy including laser acupuncture has been widely used for non-specific chronic low back pain in primary Korean medical clinics. However, there is no critically appraised data regarding which treatment conditions are most effective. A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to determine effective treatment conditions using 12 databases (PubMed, Ovid, CENTRAL, KoreaMed, KMBASE, KISS, NDSL, KISTI, OASIS, CNKI, CiNII, and J-STAGE). There were 1,019 studies retrieved and 13 studies included in this review. It was determined that when the power output was ≥ 50 mW, the beam size was increased to ≥ cm2, the energy dose was increased to ≥ 4 J per point, the treatment interval was increased to ≥ 3 times a week, and the number of treatment sessions was increased to ≥ 10 treatments, these conditions appeared to increased treatment effectiveness.

Five databases (KoreaMed, KMbase, NDSL, KISS, KiSTi) were searched prior to July 2022. A total 10 articles met the inclusion criteria. 5 articles developed VR-based education contents and the other 5 articles were using vSim already developed as a VR education program and evaluated the effectiveness. As a result of this literature review, VR-based education program was found to be effective in improving the healthcare students' competency. VR-based education program could be considered to improve the healthcare students' clinical practice ability.

  • Adams-Oliver syndrome is a well-recognized autosomal dominant disorder for which mutations in six genes are etiologic, but account for only one-third of the cases. We report a patient with two genetic disorders; Adams-Oliver and Xp22.33 deletion syndromes, as well as a vestigial pseudotail. The presence of a pseudotail has not previously been reported in either of these genetic conditions. Absence of a molecular etiology underlying Adams-Oliver syndrome confirms that there are additional genetic causes to be identified.

Methods: Literature on the studies of aromatherapy in Korea was retrieved using RISS, KISS, DBpia, and Pubmed. The studies were analyzed based on publication year, study design, intervention method, and measuring variables. The level of applied intervention was assessed by target group, the types of aroma, and their effects. Results: A total of 111 studies was included in this study. Most of studies on aromatherapy were conducted using a experimental design to test the effects of aromatherapy as a nursing interventions. Conclusion: This study showed that methods of mixing oils, sites of massage, and target groups vary among studies on aromatherapy in Korea. It is suggestive that standardized methods to mix oils and to apply aroma is in need.

  • The purpose of this study was to review articles and theses on adjustment of college freshmen from domestic researches conducted during the past 11 years, to identify overall research trends, and to suggest direction and strategies for college freshman's adjustment. The final 24 articles were selected from three databases, RISS, KISS, and NAL (National assembly library) using specific inclusion criteria. Twenty were correlation studies and four were experimental studies. In 2009, the first study on adjustment of college freshmen was published. Since then several more studies have been conducted to date. This means that people have recognized the importance of adjustment of college freshmen. Twenty three studies that are reviewed used Baker and Siryk's college adjustment tool. From reviewed correlation studies, mean score of college students' adjustment was 3.25. The related variables with adjustment of college freshmen revealed 20 items, especially self-esteem, self-efficacy, and stress showed important related concepts. The general characteristics related to adjustment of freshmen were outgoing character, living with family, aged students, satisfied with the area of study, and satisfied with school life. The findings of this study indicated that colleges when planning for the freshmen orientation program should focus on improving self-efficacy of students, stress management, mentor program, and freshmen adjustment program for each department of the school and college.

  • This study examined the status of studies on exercise interventions for middle-aged women with chronic low back pain that had been conducted over the past 10 years (2005-2014) in Korea. The existing reports were searched electronically using the database of RISS, National Assembly Library, KISS, and DBpia with the key words of middle-aged women, chronic low back pain, exercise, and exercise program. Finally, 12 articles were included in the review. One article was from nursing science, and 11 were from other disciplines. In a qualitative evaluation on the papers, 1 study scored 8 out of 10 points, 8 studies scored between 5-6 points, and 3 studies scored 3-4 points. Intervention sessions were conducted for 55 minutes, on average, each at a frequency of 3.1 sessions per week, for a total of 29.7 sessions. This study found that lumbar neuromuscular exercise, yoga exercise, and aquatic exercise were effective in rehabilitation in middle-aged women with chronic low back pain. In the future, these findings are expected to be used in nursing intervention for the establishment of the basis for evidence-based nursing practice.

  • This study aims at analyzing the research trend in Electricity, Electronics, and Communication Subject since 1973, which is the beginning year in research in Electricity, Electronics, and Communication Subjects, up to the present year of 2010. We also try to provide explicit directions and suggestions for future researches. A total of 98 studies, including master's and doctoral theses, were collected through RISS(Research Information Sharing Service), KISS(Koreanstudies Information Service System), and DBPIA(special database for domestic research information). Three researchers reviewed them using analytic method. The results were as follows. Of the researches analyzed, 2 studies(2.04%) were in 1970's. The researches in Electricity, Electronics, and Communication Subjects were not actively performed until 1996. Since then, 92.86% of total studies have been done so far and the number of research activities in these subjects are shown to be continuously growing. 50 studies were related with Curriculum and instruction area. Design/Development of Instruction Material area was the most popular topic, and Education Assessment area the least. Research design was mainly descriptive, and studies in academic journals were more than the dissertations. Research mostly focused on the students and the teachers as subjects. University was the main research agency where studies were carried out.
